Asda are selling this in 4litre tubs, price is ok but main factor is it works to minus 10 centigrade! allowing for windchill factor means should not get frozen nozzles.

asda's own stuff does not give temp, just says may help prevent freezing

Prestone® De- Icer Windshield Washer Fluid De-Icer with Dirt Blocker is specifically engineered to improve winter driving visibility. Using Prestone® De-Icer Washer Fluid helps clear light ice and frost and helps prevent dangerous re-freeze from forming on your windshield. Our Dirt Blocker formula improves your total winter driving visibility by helping to repel the build-up of dirt and salt from road spray as you drive. Get clearer glass and enhanced visibility for longer periods of time.

Use at full strength. Add directly to washer fluid resevoir. Make sure to wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after each use.

De-Icer’s high methanol content ensures strong ice melting power and the addition of ethylene glycol helps prevent dangerous re-freeze from forming on windshields.
Prestone’s Dirt Blocker technology coats windshields with a resilient organo-modified siloxane copolymer. This formulation imparts a durable hydrophobic surface on the windshield that helps prevent road spray from adhering to windshield glass by moving dirt particles away from the windshield surface and into the washer fluid that beads and rolls off the glass.

can't remember if it is a 4 or 5 litre container, image taken from website , instore only so don't bother with the link

-10C ..... only works down in the soft south then.

Hardly been above -14C here all day!

Pointless. £1 stuff is about as effective as this is in the current weather, and regardless of stuff in the system, not going to stop the nozzels from getting moisture on them and freezing or snow in them and then ice on top of them etc etc.

true but many cars have heated nozzles now or can have them fitted, my 2005 vectra did not have them but had the wiring and the plug fitted, cost 18 quid from vauxhall and come on with heated mirrors and screen

Just a quick but important point, Wind Chill is only relevant to warm blooded mammals.

Wind Chill only changes the rate at which the temperature will fall so if the air temperature is -5C outside a wind Chill of -15C will not reduce the temperature of an inanimate object below the -5C air temperature, it will just get to that temperature faster.

For warm blooded mammals, the body will try and generate heat to compensate being in a climate where the speed of the wind means that the heat is being drawn away faster from the body. So a Wind Chill of -15C means that due to the air speed your body is loosing heat as though you’re in a climate where the still air temperature is -15C.

Hope that quick science lesson makes sense...

Out of interest - Where can you get the £1 stuff from ? - Is that the same quantity.

I'm needing to buy some.

Thanks

Wind Chill does not take into account evaporation, wet clothes, etc. although all this will increase the rate at which you loose heat not the final temperature a body or inanimate object can reach.

You can get stuff that goes to -70ºC quite easily. I got a bottle from my last service (VW/Audi) that claims to do that.

propylene glycol is the active ingredient in the better ones.

That is also used as a de-icer for aircraft.
