Which one is better nest or hive ?

I assume both are equally competent. Nest has learning capabilities which I believe will let it learn your patterns and set timing accordingly. I guess this would work well with predictable patterns but not for unpredictable schedules for someone like myself.

Nest also appears to be slightly more supported by some other home hubs eg Harmony Elite. Both are compatible with Alexa. Don't think there's a lot in it between the two but I don't have personal experience yet. Fwiw I'm gonna go for hive due to price.
Told me that they wouldn’t price match it!(annoyed)

They are price matching all deals out there, I asked them to price match Amazon and that’s what they did. You can ask.

Did a self install of Hive @£108 . Simple as wiring up a plug . Could be more difficult with an older system - could be easier with a more modern system than mine (wired backplate ), just fit the Hive receiver to the backplate .

Think I did it in the wrong order as didn't connect - but rang Hive (expected a 2 hour delay due to the amount of sales they must have had due to the deal ) - answered immediately and sorted my connection in 5 minutes (best customer service ever received from any company ) . Top tips … Reset the receiver by holding down the button for 10 secs (goes back to discover mode ) . Hold down "Back " and "menu " buttons together on the Thermostat (resets to factory settings ). Maybe if I had done it correctly in the first place I wouldn't have needed customer support - but well impressed .

Thanks everyone, think I will go for it at this price was weighing up this vs nest but at this price and with a dot, I'm in...
Think I’m going to hold out for the best, but great deal op. I like the idea of a self learning mode as I’m an idiot

To me the Nest would have no advantage (as I work shifts - good luck to it learning my patterns !) , also heard it was difficult to self install ? . Look for the best deal ,make sure you get the right one - Heating only version for a combi - Heating +HW for a system set up (with HW tank ). An extra £40 for installation is a steal if you have any doubts about your ability to fit it .

The Nest will only "learn " if you have the same pattern every day - both - with the discount and the "free " echo dot are as cheap as they will be in the foreseeable future .
Thanks Rog. Can this system be extending by installing compatible. Intelligent trvs?

Must admit ,haven't got that far - to be fair not really overbothered about going that far . As I understand it the "Smart TRVs " control the temperature of the room by shutting off the radiator . Nest and Hive are about turning the boiler on/off - so in my understanding Smart TRVs work with any heating system , you just need them and the applicable app which will work with or without a Nest or Hive .
It’s very tempting Rog.....Another reason I hadn’t immediately gone for this was because i understand it’s not supported by the harmony remote/hub. I think you’re right about price though Ie it won’t drop below this anytime soon

I'm just getting into it - Hive comes with its own hub - from what I can gather most are compatible via apps -but I stand to be corrected .

We went with Hive for the price. It learns how long your house takes to heat up and it certainly seems accurate, but as you said, it's not as intuitive as the Nest I have at work. I'm often in early morning or late night, before/after everyone else, and I love that it stays on/turns off if I'm there or not, but it's also double the cost sadly

I like the sound of the learning how long to warm up.. I've bitten at this price too. Hoping the harmony elite hub supports it soon too.
How do you get it to 148.99
Hive home would not price match that price for me on live chat
Hi

I got a pricematch from hive, had to call their customer service line. Tell them about the Amazon deal and they will almost match it. Actually what they do is they can match upto 40% of their deals. For me(as i am not a British Gas customer) they matched it against their full price deal at £249.00 and gave me a price of 1x Hive Active Heating™ £149.40(with a 3rd Gen Dot)

Not bad good price
I have a Vallient combi boiler. I dont have a house thermostat but have a timer clock on the vallient fixed. I dont have a clue about HIVE but would this be fine to control my heating and water? Do i need anything else?
plz help
thanks
Hive didn't price match for me. In the end there was no need to ask for a price match. I just ordered from Amazon (the £148 deal with echo) and then when the device arrived I used the installation code on Hive website. There was an option to upgrade to multizone for £74.25 (normal price £99). So in total £223.24.
