Price Promise Voucher (Rain check) for ANY OOS deal (in ALL stores) @ Tesco

I have only just been advised of this by my colleague who used to work for TESCO.

If an item in store is out of stock but on offer, you can ask at the customer services desk for one of these voucher and it allows you unlimited time to get the offer price when the product returns!

I got a 1.35kg bottle of ketchup for 1.50 when the 900g ones were about 2.50! Bargain, and just a little heads up to everyone else

EDIT:

CONFIRMED THIS WORKS IN ALL STORES!!!

It may not be policy anymore but perhaps individual stores still offer this? Indeed that would seem to be the case if the OP got this recently.

The fact that a bit of paper exists doesn't mean the policy still exists though. Not that I know either way whether it does or doesn't!

hmm well, it seems hatfield tesco does, and im not going to visit another store just to prove it exists. it clearly wouldnt be in the till as an option if it wasnt pushed out to that store, the receipt was specific, not hand written.....so yes.

And I don't expect you to. I think it's ridiculous that people demand proof of stuff on here - either take their word for it or don't, you aren't our slave!

It being in the till doesn't necessarily mean it's policy - nor does it being an option on the till. You can do loads of stuff on supermarket checkouts that you aren't supposed to do!

this is true fair enough! i hope people make as much use of it as i did

It's true as this has happened to me a few times in Tesco recently, especially when there's only one or two of the products left on the shelf from a BOGOF or Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal. It does confuse some of the Customer Services staff as not all of them know about this policy and you can end up having to wait ages for them to faff around seeking supervisor help, processing it through the till etc.

thx for that ..very useful to know !

best phone up customer service head office guy to confirm. I recall these being stopped a few years back. As I think the till system has now been updated and changed. These vouchers are compurterised, not hand written so if computer says either "yes" or "no" there is your answer. As far as I am aware, special promotion stocks are store allocated, therefore once its gone, its gone. Store will not reorder more even though it still available in the warehouse!

been doing this for year, but you do need a clubcard, also work for items that are 2 for ££ and there is only one on the shelf

hot! I done this about a week ago, get your facts straight before voting hot or cold!

so it is not store specific, it works everywhere? result

Nice if still going

Someone has asked this on Facebook and the answer is that it is store specific..

"Our rain check vouchers are offered at the store's discretion; typically they can be offered for a multibuy type of promotion where there is not enough of the product available to allow our customer to take advantage of the promotion. For example a 3 for 2 promotion on bottles of Coca Cola where only 2 bottles remain in the store; in this case the rain check voucher may be offered to allow our customers to purchase two bottles today and pick up the third "free" bottle at a later date.

However, it's worth remembering that all of our promotions at stores are subject to availability and therefore it is not a strict rule that we'll offer this method, this is especially true where there are alternate products on the same promotion."

Tesco does rain check vouchers that guarantees price for items out of stock..... and all of the stores should be doing this; the principle here is that you advertised a product at a certain price and got customers into the store; now if the product is out of stock its the mistake of the store for not getting the numbers correct and therefore are obliged to (not liable though) honour that when it comes back in stock for good customer service and goodwill.

exactly right and i appreciate all the clarification and digging! its a great service.

can you read?!

I can read perfectly clear, hence my REPLY to the idiot that didn't read. It's fine though, clearly you can't read.....correctly.

"Our rain check vouchers are offered at the store's discretion..."

If that's true (I have no reason to doubt it!), I'd be interested to know why senior management think its appropriate for it to be a discretionary policy rather than a Group-wide one (other than of course only applying it to specific store types, e.g. excluding Tesco Metro, Tesco Express, etc).

If nothing else, if you WERE one of the few customers that was aware of rainy day/price promise vouchers, had a local store that issued them, and then went to a different store, queued at customer services only to be met with a blank stare and no voucher, I think you'd be mighty p***ed off and might be left wondering if Mr Tesco had any clue how to manage a national chain of stores. And would then be a Sainsburys/Asda/Morrisons customer.

As many posters have commented, it's not guaranteed and at the discretion of whoever you speak too (providing they've even heard of them).

That's good, especially considering how blazé my Metro is when it comes to getting product in stock and then actually putting it on the shelves. Then they get annoyed when you go look through the stock that's just lying about in containers for the product you need!

Ever consider that perhaps the policy has been revived and reintroduced? oO Offers and guarantees by supermarkets change every so often...

Hardly. They are all advertised as "while stocks last". Unless they've been particularly deceitful and only ordered 1 box of it in so it runs out in 5 seconds I don't really think they are obliged to extend the offer to suit you.

Original Poster

thats the whole point of the voucher, so yes, at hatfield, they are obliged

Been getting these for years now from Romford, Barking, Ilford, and Goodmayes stores. They cant all be wrong and as they are printed from computerised tills Tesco would have spotted this a long time ago.

Shouldn't this be in the deals section?

Some people are saying it's discretionary. Maybe they don't like kooger21's attitude. Seems determined to be negative regardless of evidence.
