I do agree compared to our speaker it does respond as well no where near good but I do like the echo 8 sound
Wow looks exactly like the Google One.

They vary. My Echo Show is always picking up commands further away than the Dot if in the lounge. They’re all pretty good it seems.

Probably refurbs doing the rounds as got the next gen out soon - also having Netflix on them natively will be great.

Yes it does
I’m done a few Prime days and I’d be very surprised to see this device go this low in that sale. I’ve ordered.

Thanks OP!
Using it for calender replacement

Last year I got the Currys deal, ring and show 5 for £112. I sold the ring for £125a couple of weeks later. So effectively got it free!

I have been disappointed, only Echo thats been a pain to use
I have one. Never opened the box. I'm sure it's great but finding a use for it is nigh on impossible as everything it does can be done through your home, and everything smart can be done better through home assistant

I have this, bought 2 of them but after using the first 1 I decided to upgrade the Echo 8.
Stuck the unopened 5 on Gumtree for £25 but never sold. Says it all really, think they are too small and sound isn't great. Equally these are always on offer so just keep checking and I think the 8 hits £50-£60 mark quite often.

The 8 is a far superior device if the screen size isn't too big for someone. Better screen resolution and sound
Already got one for my bedside clock but this is a great price. 8 is too big for what i'd use it for.
Just what I need for my ring doorbell...thanks OP

Shame there is no similar for the 8 :-(
Why do people keep saying wait for Prime day? Will this be a lot less then? Or the 8?

I wonder if they've fixed something in recent batches. I bought mine relatively early on and both the 5 and the 8 are pants. Devices half the house away will respond to my "AL EX A" shouts before the shows wake up.
I quite like my 5 - it's a great bedroom device. Mics aren't as good as others for sure, but still decent enough. And it's a nice clock that can tell the weather.
But for video, go for a bigger device.

Nobody knows for sure what’s coming up on Prime Day (I’m hoping for an Echo Buds deal), but the advice on Amazon devices is usually to wait until one of the big sales (Prime Day, Black Friday, etc).

This device, brand new, is currently £59.99, and from a quick look on CamelCamelCamel, has never been lower than £49.99.

I’ve jumped on this deal at this price as I think it’s unlikely that this device, on its own, will drop lower than £40. But that’s just my opinion.

And that doesn’t take into account all the bundles that will be flying around (see you_gotta_be_kidding’s post above).

I’ve jumped for this as it’s the price of an Echo Dot.

It’s not so much that this is a bad device just that the Show 8 has been £59.99 before and is substantially louder and better sound quality - that’s my thinking anyway. So I felt it’s always been overshadowed somewhat.

Absolutely! I don’t trust myself to not pick one of those up too, next time they drop. My wife and I are both deskbound at home for the foreseeable, ‘drop in’ becomes a very handy feature in that situation.
Can this connect to a Ring doorbell ?

Can this connect to a Ring doorbell ?

Yes. I have mine linked to all my Echo devices.
When the ring doorbell goes Echo shows the front door so you can have a 2 way conversation if you want.
It also syncs with my Arlo pro 2 cameras as well.
Was up there with my main reasons for buying these.

It's definitely an improvement over the 5 but I can be stood right by the 8 in our kitchen and the 3rd Gen echo in the conservatory (10m away) responds :/

how is it like for recipes and I can I upload mine too it, for example when using bread maker I have to Keep getting manual out, can I put it in or even a pic
Well I thought it was down to me why my Echo show 5 lags and takes ages to respond to commands. It wasn't like that when I bought it but after a few updates it's now pretty useless. Oh and it's also as dumb as a box of bolts with most questions being redirected to something completely different.
