The £40 cashback deal to bring it down to £117.98 expires on 31st July. I'm tempted by this printer but not willing to take the chance on that being rejected by having it delivered after the 31st. I concur with the high running costs also, having checked into replacement cartridges from a recommended on-line supplier.

I've looked at this printer before but the consumables are extortionately priced! :{

set of generic XL toners for this M254dw printer: £133.82 delivered set of generic XL toners for the older M251n: < £32 delivered Mehhhhhh!!!!

If you can get cheap hackable refills from China, it is a good deal, but if you are stuck with HP or "generic" refills, this is going to cost you a fortune to use.

You need to put the price before cashback in.

now reduced to £418.98 plus cashback of £200

Wow, you know it is a big business printer when one of its optional accessories is an integrated stapler for £300. Please don't buy this monster unless you are actually printing > 1,000 pages a month. It has a Quad Core 1.33 GHz Processor and 1GB of RAM, the [censord] thing has more computing power than my old Android mobile phone from a couple of years ago.

If they just reduce the price by £200 every single one they sell with be £200 cheaper. If it is via cashback, then there will be some people who either incorrectly claim, forget to claim, or don't bother to claim, so the end result is less of a cost to Printerland. That is how cashback schemes work.

Lexmark are notorious for the price of their toner and inkjet cartridges, it's never worth looking at them

Cold - Toner cost is astronomical on this printer as its a Lexmark. Buy the Brother printer that Summoner has linked to above instead - the extra upfront cost will more than pay for itself when the toner runs out. When you're buying a laser printer check if cheap/generic toner is available - your wallet will thank you in the long term! I've got a Dell C1760NW colour laser printer - which is still on its original cartridges (after I disabled the toner level check by turning on the "non-dell" cartridge option), even after 18 months of reasonably regular use (but I bought a cheap set of generic toners for when they do eventually run out) Dell don't do printers any more - but you can get some decent printers from the likes of OKI or Brother which can take generic cartridges.

Bought an OKI printer from printerland now cost £100 but you can get toner for £36 - 7K pages from cartridge save. Will Work out reasonable cheap in long run.

Good initial deal but as with all unpopular printers the toners will be extortion. This printer is only worth as long as the startup toner lasts.

Bought one of these from printerland last year for £39:99 Had to chuck it away as I couldn’t find any toner for it. All I could get was original toner for over £100 a pop.

Awful, very very high running costs which is typical of Lexmark

yep £85 cashback is not correct clever marketing Any has any idea on which one is better HP Laserjet M477 or Kyocera M5521cdw keeping in mind the running costs?

It's 'up to' £85 cashback; this particular printer has £50 cashback. HTH

It's only £50 cashback for the printer. Plus a further £35 if you buy a full set of toners. The OP should change his posting. In the meantime, I'm voting cold in protest! :)

Been looking at this and the M477FDW also at Printerland. Latter is £299.98 with £100 cashback *and* a Free 3 Year Next Business Day Onsite Carepack Warranty. Better value overall in my view. Plus the M277DW has sold for less in the past. Note that the existing cashback deals end TODAY (31/7/2017).

Comments and review from last time found here :-

That's true but with 8000 page toners included instead of starters like most I see it as disposable at the end of the toners life, which will take me probably 10 years! I realise it's not for everyone but it will suit me

Looks like around 0.7p per page, with good durability on the drum. It may not be the absolute cheapest to run but it seems pretty reasonable to me, certainly comparable to many low capacity compatibles for other printers at this price (e.g. Brother 9015CDW). Although of course they're aimed at different markets. Anyone buying a 2,200 page compatible for £20 isn't likely to be interested in spending £200 on a 33,000 page cartridge, and vice versa.

Sorry OP! :) It may be cheap printing for a Lexmark printer, but toner and ink for Lexmark printers has always been notoriously high, and this one seems to be no exception, in fact i can (quickly find) no compatible toner cartridges for this model

Oh got you, thanks for explaining.

Oh, it means that this printer could churn out 50,000 printed pages in a month if you kept it fed with paper and toner. That's an insane quantity, it's like every single person in a 200-person office printing out a small (250 pages) book each month. That's why office printers are so expensive. By comparison I bought one of the 3,000/month brothers, some of the cheaper to replace parts are rated for 25,000 pages so would die within two weeks if subjected to the same load. The more expensive parts have a 100,000 page lifespan so would last 2 months. That's 2 months before an £80 (heavily discounted) printer is reduced to a smoking pile of junk that needs replacing. On the other hand home users don't print that much. I've done 260 pages in 11 months :P

What does that mean, as in how is it better?

Why is this a deal? For that price you could get a Brother that'd be cheaper initally, cheaper to run, and colour... wait a minute, pages per month. 50k pages per month rated load with this, whereas the Brothers I'm thinking of are more like 3k. Worth adding that to the description as without that info this looks overpriced.

Thanks for sharing, have updated price to show what you pay at checkout with VAT and before claiming cashback

Looks like this has gone back down again to £169 (+VAT). Crazy seeing as though it ships with 8,000 pages of toner. Still showing 99+ in stock. I got one first time round but toners have gone so I've just bought another! :)

This is phenomenal.

Unfortunately it's gone up now at Printerland @£214, so I purchased at the Printer Experts link above for the same previous price £172. Look forward to breaking my back when it arrives :-)

Thanks to the OP. Fed up of fighting the losing battle of using cheap generic inks and toners in smaller home printers, I took the plunge. No matter what you read, nothing can prepare you for the size and weight of the beast. Unpacking it is a monumental challenge, never mind carrying it through the house to its destination. I woke up this s morning and for a while couldn't work out why I was covered in bruises, then I realised it is from lifting and carrying this printer. Not tried photo printing on glossy paper yet, hoping it is better than the dell 1760 it replaced but will try soon. Only thing I would add this the previous posts is that network setup assumes some capability of computers. Connecting through Ethernet took me a while to work out as I couldn't find any instructions anywhere. On home printers, you usually get a tool to help you through the process but this is an office printer and assumes you know what to do. For a while it would not pick up an IP address from the router. Finally I disabled IPV6 which was on my default, rebooted and it got an address allocated. In the end I assigned a fixed up address and setup the driver on windows 10 to use this port instead of the default port. This seemed to make a massive difference to the communication speed, almost instantaneous. On the mac, the default settings seemed to work perfectly. No need to purchase the wireless version if you have it connected via Ethernet to your wireless router, works fine wired or wireless throughout the house and the iPhones automatically see it as an AirPrint printer. The main issue I can see having is when it has used up all the toner, god knows how I am going to get this down to the tip to dispose of it, absolutely dreading moving this again. I would recommend asking someone to help you and not do this on your own.

I've just read your comment. It's pretty accurate, and very entertaining. Thanks

Have confirmed that this is Cloud print ready as well as airprint so have gone for it. Works out at 0.015p per page if it lasts 12,000 pages. Also same price from Printerland through amazon: Had second thoughts - don't think that the wife would be happy. Either way a brilliant deal for me: For: Airprint and cloud print ready. Duplex & Colour Against: Have to throw away after a year - poor mother earth!

You should just quit while the deal is still at -23, nobody is gonna buy this bulbous obese of a piece of printer. Is the Bluetooth speaker for hands-free use while you wait endlessly on the phone for Lexmark to troubleshoot it? :D

If you have the space this is a good deal as the large toners make the cost per page very cheap. I have a CS510de that came with 10K toners and it is still going strong after 18 months use.

Although again these printers are huge/heavy. They are meant for offices, schools and the like. Not ideal for home unless you have the space and don't live a couple floors up. Carton Dimensions 545 x 588 x 553 mm - 30.1 kg

Apparently you can also claim a free speaker. Just click the terms and conditions link. This is a crazy good price though, it does cost over £700/$1000 elsewher!

Just placed my order for the brother MFC-L8650, arriving tomorrow! downside - wife and kids are already planning all the stuff they want to print oO

Had many of both HP and Brother but found the latter to outlast any that HP can come up with. Admittedly, HPs have been recently strong but not enough imho.

Nice spot. I think I've pretty much ruled out the oki, looks too dated and uses chips. I've come across the HP M277dw and HP M477dw - the latter having automatic duplex scan. I'm trying to decide between the HP and Brother. According to the re-filling costs are cheaper for HP than for Brother. I wish I wasn't so damn indecisive! - how hard can it be to choose a printer!

That OKI you were looking at is only £149.99 on Ebuyer without cashback, and has a 3 year warranty.

First deal on this website. I hope this is going to help you.

Please note that printing to ANY Brother printer, from Android, will result in poor quality output (jagged text and geometric shapes). PDFs printed via Android are mostly unreadable, as text often becomes an illegible smudged mess, and graphics become artifact laden. It's a known issue, and Brother don't anticipate releasing remediatory firmware (and software update) within the next 18 months (from Jan 2016) at least.

This is from their T @ C's ... "This Brother UK Ltd (BUK) promotion is valid only on the above Qualifying Products which must be purchased from a Brother Authorised Dealer within the United Kingdom, details of which are available by telephoning 0333 777 4444." I actually rang and ask and they gave me an unambiguous No to amazon as a Brother Authorised Dealer

Interesting - they certainly qualified as a reseller in 2013 when I claimed cashback for my Brother laser printer. I'd agree about Amazon marketplace resellers, but Amazon themselves are normally OK as they supply UK stock.

Anyone reading this, please beware! Amazon are not an authorised Brother supplier and therefore you would not qualify for the cashback.

There was a toner trick mentioned in this brother deal. Might work on this printer too.

I use 90gsm Lyreco Premium paper, so it's not just the heavier stuff. Usually not an issue for the odd double-sided document though

One of the big things missed by most comments is that this comes with full 2000-image toners, which is worth quite a bit over the usual pathetic starter toners offered with cheap printers. Also comes with free 3 year on-site warranty (needs to be registered withing 28 days of purchase). As said by NoFinPhish, it does misfeed on duplexing on heavier (100gsm) paper, so be warned. Excellent build quality otherwise.

Makes you wonder when one Laser printer gets less than £10 knocked off it's voted a hot deal, this one gets £150 knocked off - around 50% and a 3 year on site warranty thrown in and it's stone cold ! Can anyone explain why ?

I thought this site was full of savvy people who could work out a decent deal ! Full set of toner - non OEM £55 and they only do 700 sheets, which means you need 3 to compare with the OKI - £165 Full set of Genuine Oki toners from the same supplier £151 Therefore the Oki is a much better deal than the Dell which is out of stock now anyway !

I have one of these at work. My company bought 3 recently and they were only about £120 each from memory, not sure where they were bought from. I was surprised to get a duplex printer for that price. I'm actually pretty happy with it, but the duplex printing is a bit hit-and-miss. Try printing out a ream of double-sided pages and it does occasionally miss-feed.
