No greasy hair...

Your knees go over the top bar with your ankles tucked behind the lower bar. In this position, your head is lower than your hips because of the bench incline.

From here, you do sit-ups. Because of the angle you're raising yourself from, More effort is required by your abs per repitition.

Handy if you've got the room for it, heat

So this actually makes sit ups harder? ... COLD! lol

Are these actually any good?

I find doing sit-ups when lying on the floor really hurts my back - I understand this will make sit-ups harder but does anyone know if using one of these would prevent the back pain?

Look its a bench where you do situps at an incline, thus making it more difficult. You could try doing crunch situpd instead, this will put more strain onto the abs becuase of they are slower and more focus on the specific area of the muscle.
I als!o thought you can use this for an incline dumbbell press as well.

As for regards to people making smart comments and moaning about the product. Maybe they should try it out before making these negative remarks. Might realize how many pounds and inches they could lose

I get the same problem when doing sit ups on the floor and i can confirm that when using a bench i don't get back pain (i think my bench is similar to this one if not the very same!!)

-HTH

Brilliant - thanks for that! I'm sure it's probably a form issue and hopefully as this sort of thing forces you to use a certain type of form it'll help the problem.

davesherman - try doing crunches instead of situps (where you just raise the head and shoulders off the floor, youtube should have lots of vids of the technique) or simply just fold up a towel several times and place it under your lower back

Hmmm....... another thing people might rush out and buy only to throw it away six months later when the wife complains its taking up too much space and didnt get used after the first week......

Damn if this was a bench for weight lifting then I would have bought it.

Does anyone know if the adjustable incline allows this bench to be flat?

I find sit ups on incline benches such as these put strin ont he knees - I find doing 'plank' leg raises and bent leg crunches in rotation far more effective and at zero inital cost.

Cardio will always be better for weight loss than a bench like this. To get your abs showing you need around 12% body fat, as well as working on them directly, so don't expect to get results from this alone if you're a little on the heavy side.

i have one of these and they works your abs really well. it folds up so can be stored easily in a cupboard, the part with the foot and knee rests fold into the board. A good buy at £20 a great buy at £13

LOL - a bit of testosterone flowing on this one

There you are again people costing me more money lol, well the way i see it at £13 its a steal. If i dont get any use of it can always put on ebay after or give to my brother.

Hot price i was looking at getting one of these a few weeks ago and cheapest i can find was about £25
any one getting back pain from situps on floor will still get back pain from using one of these because if ur getting any type of back pain or knee pain ur not doing the situp right at all

You may also want to look into ab cradles, it reduces the pressure on the lower back during the exercise.

Try actually working out your lower back, should strengthen and stabilise it reducing pain in the long term.

Doing muscular resitance exercise, e.g. situps, will increase muscle size, and therefore increase weight, and size.

If you want to lose weight and size, try cardio.

True that.

Its sort of a double edge sword for me though. I joined the gym just over 3 weeks ago and have changed how I eat for the last month - I literally haven't ate a chocolate bar or cake since New Year. Fruit, Veg and Protein is where its at.

New Years Day I weighed 15'12 and to this point Im at 14'7. I want to get down to about 13'7 before going on the weights more. I will probably gain weight by using them but at least it will be good weight.

The double chin has gone and the man boobs are disappearing. So yeh, Im loosing this nasty weight to the put some good weight back on lol.

These type of benches are good , but remember that to hit the entire abdominal muscle group , one exercise ( ie , sit ups just isn't going to do it ) . Try leg raises , crunches and a host of other exercises if you want to get that six pack ready for summer .
Also as suggested earlier , if you aren't fairly lean anyway , any fat you are holding will hide your efforts , so cardio work is a must .

Well i went off the rail's for a bit, and was once 17st. I had a head start and was down to 15st, then i started getting into shape again. Lots of cardio, situps and weights. I have been the same weight for last 10years now(well a few pound here and there).
I never found doing so many situps(crunches) would increase my body weight, so not sure what your on about. Thou I haft to admit i dont train to much on my stomach becuase of medical reasons. Thou I do, do allot of chest and arm exercise.

I didn't say sit ups increase muscle lol. I just said Im getting down to a decent 'core' weight before I focus heavily on the weights.

A great product to have around the house, my bf uses it at least twice a week!

it's great....the kids love using it as a slide when the hubby doesn't want it hahahahaha

lol! I had one of these for a year or so... the aim was to get a bikini body again, the kids used it as a slide too, tried to ebay but no-one wanted it, ended up rehoming it on freecycle.

Excellent if you actually use it, but mine was either under the bed gathering dust, or a climbing frame :P I just do sit ups, crunches and planks now... the old fashioned way

good find, heat added
