Thanks to meerustar on MSE for spotting this deal.

Managed to pick one up today and they are great quality. The SEL showed them as being half price but they scanned at £6. Instore only as they are still £34.95 on tesco direct.

globals are a bit better :P

but you cant buy a global knife handle at this price

Sabatier knives were great years ago, now they are made by various manufacturers all over the world...
But for £6 you can't go wrong at this price...Would never pay £50 for them though..

I've owned 2 sets of these over a period of 6 years. They do tend to get worn quite easily, in my opinion - so we decided to keep them sharpened to lengthen their use. I'd also like to point out that both times I purchased these, they were being sold for £15 and £10 (the latter being from Argos at the time). These have never been near £50 unless of course a store thought they could get rid of it for that price.

I thought sabatier was now a generic term that any manufacturer can use. I doubt these are genuine.

these have been marked as half price for at least 12 months in tesco's so i wouldnt be surprised if its been slashed again goin to take a punt tonight

Yes these were reduced to £6 on Monday past.... I was reliably informed by a member of staff the previous Wednesday but the 5 they had suddenly disappeared prior to Monday ...most likely by staff (Antrim Branch). There is also another "top" brand reduced which I shall post later which I purchased for £5.50.

Looks good, will check at lunchtime.

LOL a set of pro knives for 50 quid-never in a million years.
Not professional at all.

I'm just getting in my car now to drive round all 1800 Tesco stores on the offchance I can find one of these!!.... not!
There should be a seperate place for region/area/offline specific deals IMHO.

It always has been a generic term. Supposed to be forged in a certain region in France I believe (like Champagne) but any manufacturer can make them as they didn't protect the region name or something.

Good for a cheap knife block but sure as hell these won't be forged.

Got to be better than IKEA knives haven't they. Heat added.

Sabatier is the style of knife..... Some are great (the original French ones) and some are rubbish with blades that roll within a few uses. The ones made by Prestige in my local Tesco fall into the latter category. Still, for £6, you can't go far wrong.

These must be very cheap Sabatier knives, as £50 wouldn't have bought you one large knife a few years ago!

so has anyone buyt OP got these @ £6???

No body is going to get these.... Can we see receipt?

This is just a silly price.

Thanks just bought one at Tesco merthyr it's priced up at 25 reduced from 50 but checks out at 6 , thanks

can u get this online of do u have to go instore?

I got these from tesco for £6 about 18 months ago they did the same thing marked up at £50 then but scanned at £6 been using them since but found they need sharpening quite regularly but for the money if you can find them you can't go wrong.

There is, you click Show Online Deals Only in the header. It would take you less time to do this, than post a sarky comment to a deal you aren't interested in.

This is a real deal but do not call any store and ask about them as you only give tesco the heads up and they remove the stock. Some stores do not have any and some do not have them on the shelf but in some cases if you look up you might find a box full of the sets that has still to be put on the shelves so take a tall person with you

Think i got these when they were more expensive. At this price it's an absolute deal.

I have some of these Sabatier knives, mine are made by Richardson of Sheffield. Sabatier is a generic term for the method of forging of these knives, lots of companies use the name, it isn't trademarked.

Mine are fine except for one thing - 2 of the small ones have rust marks, must be quite a flaw in the stainless steel such as low localised chrome content in certain places of the blade. I was quite annoyed seeing as I paid £40 for a £100 block in Fenwick, Newcastle.

Are these Chinese Sabatiers? I have seen "Sabatiers" in Sainsburys which were 'Made in R.O.C.'

I have some authentic French Sabatier knives, they are excellent. A few strokes of the steel and they will cut anything.

i got a few boxes for me and other family from one of the NI stores ..

Thanks to meerustar on MSE? What the hell are you doing behind enemy lines? Are you a double agent? Just **** off to MSE we don't need you anymore.

Alas people here is a classic example of a NOOB. We have to just ignore these idiots as they thrive on attention BYE

I've got some of these from about a year ago - again £50 scanning at £6. Not bad knives - they even cut vegetables.

picked up a couple of these in my local, along with Pantene Brunette Shampoo 400ml @ 24p. (showing £3.97 online!). There are quite a few glitches at Tesco.

I agree

we have some proper professional sabatiers... you need to buy a quality knife sharpener to go with them, and when properly sharp they are amazing.
