Protein roll, 27g protein per roll 39p @ Lidl

Found 9th Jul 2015
Saw these in Lidl in Farnborough. There were lots of rolls. I think they are baked fresh in store everyday as I could see the bakery round the side.

I usually avoid bread but going to give this a try with a slice of chicken and some salad for a mega high protein lunch.

Struggling to get my head round how a roll that doesn't look overly big could cram in 27 grams of protein?

There is some voodoo physics at work, these must be somewhat chewy, not doubting it I just find it hard to understand from the picture haha!

Sorry, amended title to read as Lidl instead of Aldi.

Green label says 27g protein per roll, but could well be a mistake on Lidl's part if its supposed to be per 100g.

Would a roll typically weigh 100g?!
most rolls weigh between 115-130g. There really nice and for the price u can't argue.
I buy these rolls and that is not them on the picture?

The price on the bread is usually for the product above.
It's listed as new at 39p in the current leaflet but doesn't look like the above (Danish pastry?) - diabetes.co.uk/for…73/ very solid and packed in appearance, I can believe the claims.
Protein roll. I like a good fibre slab myself. The romance of cuisine.
A typical piece of wholemeal brown bread contains about 14g of protein, so 2 slices of bread with chicken is also high in protein, you can get a full loaf with 20 slices in for about a £1

They are from lidl and they are quite nice
really stay by you unlike normal puffed up supermarket rubbish bread

Where did you get that protein figure from? One slice of thick wholemeal bread contains about 5g of protein and is around 100 calories.

That would have to be a pretty big slice....the average is actually about 4-5 grams/protein per slice.
    Horrid
Wouldn't most people interested in the protein content be trying to stay away from refined wheat?

    soy...
Urgh. Not liking the bakery in Lidl after going in yesterday (went in late afternoon) ... all the bread was soggy and dry and there were like little flies partying on the breads (jumping and bouncing from one pastry to the next) ... they were having a heck of a time...

... the fresh pizzas and pasties looked as dry.

Maybe wrong time of the day. I guess they will be 'freshest' around lunch times when most people probably want to snack on something cheap
Wrong picture. They're triangle shaped covered in seeds. Pretty tasty with soup :-)

Will need to buy a bra to house your moobs if you have one of these every day!
These are nice, this is however their normal price. They're pretty chewwy as noted above and very filling.
FYI, the product in the picture isn't the high protein roll lol

    Some good roll knowledge there.
The one in the picture is the margarita roll. It is very tasty. Not as healthy as the protein roll which is a brown triangle shape.
Who'd have thought so much controversy over the protein levels in a mere roll!!
These aren't the rolls in the picture, the rolls are full of seeds and brown in colour and resembling more of a triangle shape.
The rolls themselves remind me of Burgen bread. Very tasty and filling.

That's what I thought, mine are 4-5g per slice as well.
The photo is the pizza roll thing they do? The protein roll is a dark and triangular with seeds on it.
    Nice
had these at the weekend, really nice!!
