Put them in your basket and checkout once they get the red shopping bag the games are yours and can download in future as long as your are a ps plus subscriber

Annoying that I picked both up in the Game death sale and hardly played either. Good if you've not played them yet I suppose. It's annoying that plus doesnt consider that you might have the games already. I'd love to see Sony offer a way to confirm that you have the original game such as a one time code on the manual or check if you paid for it previously from the store to offer some other bonus like an extra 10% off the next purchase you make.

No different to XBLive then as when it runs out you have no access to the main features of the service (silver is not the same as gold). Funny how the fanbois on both side don't notice these little details. I have plus and frankly when I'm done with the game I'm unlikely to replay it and a lot of people are like this so for the game play you get the service is a bargain as buying some of these games outright even after trade ins would still work out a lot more expensive. Had to let my XBLive sub run out as I'm moving house so dont want to be paying for something I cant use, missing playing Forza now quite a bit
loving Playstaion Plus, anoyingly just bought both games on pc recently..

But so good... so far...
Good titles there.

Red Dead Redemption is also coming in September, and Sega's new platformer, Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, is October's game of the month.

Three good indie games on the way too: eurogamer.net/art…lus

For the price of one retail game, Playstation Plus is dishing out twelve months of great value entertainment at the moment (I'm currently playing the digital version of Infamous 2).
Not sure i'll be a fan of either but for free, i'm more than willing to try them.
Running out of space on my HDD now Is it possible to use an external drive for storage on the PS3 you can on the 360 I know.
Wish they would stop giving away stuff I already have. PSN definitely getting better though!

Nope but you can upgrade the PS3s internal one for a bigger one. You can even back up the old drive to a portable disk and then restore everything to the new one (saving hours of downloading it all again). The only downside is that the more stuff you have the longer it takes to back everything up to a portable drive and you can't use the PS3 during that time either. My PS3 takes about 4-6hours to back up (but I've got stuff since the PS3 release still on it) and a similar amout of time to restore (not had to do that much). However, I just start the process when I go to bed or before a day at work and it's done by the time I get back.

You need a 2.5inch drive and the largest capacity you can currently get that will fit the PS3 is 1tb. 500-750gb are at the sweet spot in price at the moment when considered per gig of space. However a year ago the prices were a lot lower as others have said. You can in theory (and in practice based on some youtube videos I've seen) get a 3.5inch drive to work so have up to 4tb of space but sadly that means having another set of cables coming from the PS3 and is not really practical.
500GB Toshiba HDD in mine. Fitted it ages ago to hold loadsa HD Video content but now it's more handy for all the PSN+ downloads.
Little gutted as just purchased Just Cause 2 through psn store, but can't complain much as I'm happy with everything else.

At least you will be able to keep it if ya end ya PSN+ subscription.
Original Poster
Also worth mentioning two new PSN games which Plus subscribers get a discount on: Sound Shapes and Papo & Yo, both games are highly original and I recommend checking them out!
Anyone who already has ps+, what is the average size per game? Thinking of taking it up for a year but will need to get a bigger hdd. 500gb or 1tb?
Awesome games ;_;

@blankdisco: Varies considerably but I have a 250GB and it's almost full after 20 games installed (+a few demos). I'll just delete the games I don't play though since they stay on your download list after the first install.

The full sized games like Borderlands, LBP2 etc vary from 3gb to 15gb - That's the biggest I've noticed so far... (InFamous2)
25% discount to the plus service starting September for anyone interested. Will be around £30 for the year. Also cloud storage is being upped to 1GB from 150mb too

Some simple questions.

Wondering about PS Plus for my son. I gather you pay £40 per year and can download up to about 45 games per year? And you can continue playing them and adding to them as long as you continue membership, so say in 2 years you could have 60, 70 or so full games - hard disk space permitting?

Can you download games previously available, or once they are replaced by new games you've missed your chance?

What other benefits are there?

Thanks.
And would like to upgrade the HD. Any suggestions about best HDD for the money?

He has a 60gb backwards compatible PS3.

Thanks.

Yes you're pretty much correct. I'd make a couple of points to clear things up though:

*You also get regular PS+ discounts on many games as well as out-and-out freebies. In these cases you DO NOT have to still be a PS+ member to keep playing them.

*You CAN still download previously offered games for free once the offer has been removed - IF you add the free item to your basket and "purchase" it at the time the offer is made (you don't have to actually download it). I do this as the free offers come up just in case I might like to play them in future. Once you've done this (assuming you're still a PS+ member you can just find the game and it should have a little red basket icon next to it which means you've bought it previously and can simply download it again for free.

*Your free games all become available again even if your membership ends and you sign up with PS+ again at a later date (i.e you don't lose them forever the moment your membership ends, just until you sign up again).

For what it's worth I think you'd be mad not to sign up - but it might be worth waiting until September as PS+ will apparently be on offer around that time.

Phew...I hope this helps
Yep 25% discount in september for the service.

As well as freebies and discounts you also get automatic update downloads for game updates and cloud storage for save datas.

excellent games the 2 of thempsplus is tremendous

as long as you keep subscribing
great games shame ive already played them and in borderlands case platted it a long time ago.

its seems ps+ is best for people who are new to the system, not those who have had one for 4 or 5 years as these games have all been bought and finished.

Just Cause was one of the first games to be given away free in that "massive games giveaway" thing they launched earlier this year.

Borderlands is a new addition though.

Or people like me who tend to buy only certain games eg. F1, LBP, GT, Uncharted and play them exclusively for months at a time, because of PS+ I've managed to play inFamous, inFamous 2, Far Cry 2, Darksiders, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Saints Row 2, Shift 2 and Warhammer.
The inFamous games have really been the stand-outs, brilliant games.
