Is there a New PSP console out? I haven't seen any adverts?

The PSP-E1000 was released on 20 July 2012 in Ice White, to complement the existing Charcoal Black model.

The PlayStation Vita console is also being released in Crystal White on 31 October 2012 (to coincide with the release of "Assassin's Creed Liberation")

Wifi.

The 3G is useless since it basically only allows you to browse the web, something the Vita does very poorly to begin with.

WiFi is the cheaper model but can only be used on a wifi network. 3G can be used anywhere providing you have a network contract, much like a mobile phone so most people go for the wifi model - that's what I use and it's perfectly fine.

3G or WiFi allow you to browse the net, play games online and download games as well as a few other less exciting features.

If you've purchased PSP games on PSN I think you can download the games again for the Vita. What you definitely can't do is play PS3 games on the Vita. The only case of this occurring is with the PS3 games 'Wipeout HD' and 'Wipeout Fury', where users who purchase (or who have already purchased the PS3 game) can download the levels for both the PS3 and Vita BUT Vita owners must also own the standalone Vita game 'Wipeout 2048' to do so.

The main benefits of the Vita are it's a much more powerful handheld than the PSP, has greatly improved screen and also has two control sticks. Many liken it to the power of a PS3 in a handheld but I would so it's about 2/3 as powerful.

It's an excellent device and this is a fantastic price - I paid £220 with one game 2 months ago but if you can't afford it it's still a lot of money. Sony have said they won't drop the price before Christmas but price drops are starting to be seen, so there's no way of knowing how the market will change in the next few months.

Hope that helps.

If money is no object, then you could get the 3g model, since it can do everything that the wifi model does but also has 3g + gps (can use it for maps/navigation, and on the go web browsing etc).

But purely from a gaming point of view, most games don't support 3g gaming (there's too much latency in the 3g connection for multiplayer) - the games that do support it are usually turn-based style games, or it's just used for comparing high scores/achievements.

Hmm, a few games are available on both PS3 and Vita, e.g. Motostorm RC, Top Darts, (and if you buy it on PS3 through PSN then you automatically get a license to play it on Vita, and vice versa). I believe that Metal Gear Solid HD collection is also available on both PS3 and Vita, and you can save on one and continue on the other, but you would need to buy each version separately, so I guess this is only useful if you are a real hard-core fan.

Probably you would want to get the wifi version and put the money you save towards some games.

Best games to buy on this are:
Super Stardust Delta
Uncharted
Lumines
Everybody's Golf
Wipeout 2048
Marvel vs Capcom 3
and the soon to be released Little King's Story.

Is the 3G model locked to vodafone? There are cheap £5 3G only sim cards, like ovivo which I'd try use

The Vita isnt doing well, wouldnt surprise me if it just slowly and quietly dies out

Grab it now! It will only 'die out' if you "wait and see" for certain games to come out. Vita is already better than PS3 was at this point in 2007. How many games were out that were worth getting? Three. Till COD4 and Ratchet and Uncharted came out. Vita is far stronger so far, and it can only get better.

Can it be jailbroken yet?
Not for the free games, The homebrew on such a device is what intrigues me.

That makes no sense. Buy it now, at this price, with nothing to really use it for at the moment?

If you want an handheld, get the 3DSXL, its much cheaper at the moment and more of a choice.

This says it all really. Even Sony admitting thery are in trouble. PS3 too expensive and too late at launch. PSP crippled by piracy. PSvita seems to have so much potential untapped. Slow game releases. Clunky web etc. Really wanted it to be better and feel let down by Sony.

Hot deal! I own Vita and 3DS and I must be in the minority as I think the Vita has a better selection of games, especially as it's only been out 6 months.

You're not on your own, the Vita rocks.

... like a paperweight.

Seriously, a great portable gaming device. More than enough titles at present to keep me amused, but I can appreciate the criticism that a wider selection is overdue.

Voting cold because the Vita is selling worse than the PSP or PS3 in aligned launches, worse than even the Dreamcast, Will buy one in about 12 months, if it's still around and supported by games which it may well not be.

As well as sales figures, have you compared the selling prices of the respective consoles relative to average monthly/annual disposable income (especially within a worldwide recession)?

Also, of course, when the PSP was launched there was not another handheld Sony console (as direct, or indirect competition).

The PlayStation Vita was not released to replace the existing range of PSP consoles; it complements them.

Just like the DS was at one point named a "third pillar" to support the Game Boy and Console line-up for Nintendo but in reality was really just a new generation handheld the Vita is most certainly a replacement for the PSP.
The only reason that the PSP isn't fully replaced by the vita after over half a year is because the Vita isn't doing too well right now.

Also it is much better to compare the sales figures of the Vita with its direct competitors (which are mostly the 3DS and to a lesser extent the iPod Touch) to filter out any economic changes. As you can see the 3DS is currently miles ahead of the Vita.

All that being said, I still think that the Vita is worth it in terms of hardware. Just realize that if you buy this right now there will not be a lot of software for a couple of months, and the real exclusive Vita titles (not including rehashes of console games) might not even arrive for over a year.

LOL

Yes. Buy a 3DS if you want more "choice". In other words, to play the same regurgitated games that Nintendo have been shovelling out for the last 20 years. Saving princess peach was fun the first few times, as was playing the same Zelda game, now its just dull and repetitive.

The 3DS has been out for almost a year longer than the Vita, yet it still has no games that are new or exciting.

The Vita at least has games like Gravity Rush and a load of gems on the PS Store such as Tales From Space and Super Stardust.

About the only unique title the 3DS has is Resident Evil: Revelations, and that needs a £20 addon in order to play it properly.

I'm not saying the 3DS has no good games. I'm saying that if you've ever owned a Nintendo console from the last decade, then you've played them all already.

Oh wow. So low sales of end of life products (and one being a dead product, I might add) = a company in crisis?

Damn, that means Apple are seriously screwed, their products dont even last a year these days.

Why did you post this....so tempting

Banned

why do people keep spouting the same B.S. about the vita having NO GAMES? there may not be hundreds of games but then its ONLY BEEN OUT SINCE FEBRUARY F.F.S, there are several highly rated games out which you can get on playing till more are released in the coming months/years.

fine go on about the price of the memory cards being expensive as that is a fair point(if you're planing on buying PSN games that is, if you're only going to get retail games then a 4gb should be enough for the save games, or if you can stretch the 8gb. no need for the 32gb for just save games etc), just DON'T spout the B.S. about NO GAMES.

the vita is not locked to vodafone, its like the ipads and the other 3g tablets where you can use whichever network you want,

just a word of warning on your plans for using the ovivo sim, the vita is NOT a supported device(only android tables, ipads, usb 'modems' ad laptops with built in 3g slots, well that's for the tablet version. the smartphone version is not really for tablets etc). with the vita not being on the supported device list it states in the t&c that they will block you from using it. I've asked on their twitter account and they're 'looking into it', no idea as to if/when the vita will be added to their supported list.
