Due to its thinner profile, it does not contain the 3.5" expansion bay and therefore does not support the internal hard disk drive. It also lacks an internal power supply, similar to the GameCube, and has a modified MultiTap expansion. The removal of the expansion bay has been criticized as a limitation due to the existence of titles such as Final Fantasy XI, which require the use of the HDD.

It's pretty much a cosmetic thing only. I have a Pink Slimline (I'm a straight guy ) and it looks great, in my opinion. I always thought the fatboys looked horrible but the slimline, esp the silver (or pink if that's your thing), looks great. It'll also be a lot easier to sell on a second hand slimline over a fatboy. ]Link to image of slim on top of fat.

I'd recommend getting a slimline if this is for your living room or will be on display. Will make less of a difference if it's tucked away in a cabinet.

Interesting to hear off the OP if its the 'fat' or 'slim' PS2 as I got my daughter the PS2 Buzz bundle a while back and it was the slim version - I don't think the fat ones were still being sold when Buzz came out. He does say 'slim' in the description though, I would doubt if any shop has the fat ones left - although I wouldn't put it past Curry's to have a few in their stock rooms the way they organise their games sections, they've probably got a few Atari 2600's in there too!

The slimline PS2 is frankly incredible, really impressive they've managed to get it so small and it includes onboard ethernet. The main advantage of the older PS2 is that it can take a hard drive, there's a piece of software which rather conveniently allows you to copy games to the hard drive to make them readily accessible with no loading times.

I rang Fosse Park and the guy confirmed that the offer above was for the original 'fat' console but they did have the slims available for £46 though these are being sold without the Buzz game.

Thanks for your opinions ! I've decided to stick with the slimline I picked up from Tescos this morning. I couldn't believe how small it was when I took it out the box !

All that for £40. Cool

You'll have enough trouble trying to find a second hand console for £40, and believe me, I've tried.

The SLIMLINE fits perfecly into my GMC SUV little stash in the back, the FAT model however is quite a space eater... + the Slimline is easier to modify to play "backed up" games...

SLIMLINE can take harddrives aswell... it just wont be stashed away like the FAT PS2 but thats fine, as i share my 500GB hard drive between my PC and Slimline PS2...

The World has a Soluition for every problem you stumble on in your life my friend!

and the software is called Swap magic

but why would you want a ps2 for home use when the Xbox 360 and PS3 are in the market?

My mate picked one up(ps2 Slimline) for £40 in birmingham, even though he works there so he got staff discount included I think. Plus the are selling the old Fat PSP's gigapack for £50!!

The usbadvance is far too slow to play most games with, the ps2 is only usb 1 so most games just won't load on a slim.

For anyone wanting to play backup/copies (particularly from the hard drive) then the fat ps2 is far better. The independence day exploit is available on the fat, along with the ability to use a hard drive.

Thanks for this, just picked one up. It is the slim model, I didn't realise just how small they are.

We popped into Choices on the way home and they had PS2 DVD remotes for £0.99.

just bought one from this place, thanks mate

and heat added, thanks

Yorks WHSmiths have them in at Monks Cross, they have saved me one for tomorrow and they do have some more if anyone is looking for one? Tel. 01904 622555. Hope this helps someone?

I have also been told that they are definately the slimline version as they are in a yellow box

Awesome deal.

Get a PS2 and all the classic games and you'll be set for a year - maybe on your bedroom TV instead of your HUKD 37" LCD TV, but where better to knife hos in GTA:SA than lying on your back in bed?

Huge back catalogue of games from 97p in Currys?

Some of the definitive games of the millennium? Shadow of the Collossus? Ico? GTA series? Guitar Hero? God of War? Want a DVD player in the bedroom?

Hopefully they will get some more stock sometime in the week

Great post! I got one this afternoon. It's definitely the slim PS2!

If it helps anyone they have stock in High Wycombe, Slough and Aylesbury...not sure how many though.

I called Customer Services this morning after being met with the response that I must be crazy if I think I'm going to get a PS2 & Buzz game for £40 when I called local stores....

the CS guy knew nothing about the deal either but checked for me and told me which stores had it in stock. He was very helpful

went to my local store again this afternoon and the psp is still out of stock, any one knows when it will back in stock? cheers

WHY IS THIS EXPIRED???

I've just been in to my local store (Wolverhampton) and they have 2 Buzz PS2 bundles left for £40 and 1 PS2 on its own for £47.50. They also had a £50 black PSP Giga pack that I ummd and arrd over, walked round another shop and decided I wanted it, then went back and found it had gone
