Noticed an AV Forums thread about Carphone Warehouse selling off their PS3/DS3 gampads for £26.99. Checked online but they had none. Then phoned my local store at Glasgow Fort...........................What luck two in stock £26.99.

Reserved them to collect, but later realised I would be passing my local Curry's. Checked their price promise on website and stopped in to salvage two for £26.99-10%=£24.29 each, BARGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!. (Now pointed out it should have been £26.19 as the price promise shoud have been 10% of the difference, NOT the 10% of the lower price which they gave me).

I suggest anyone with smarts follows a similar strategy to keep stock available at Carphone Warehouses that have stock and keep the deal coming. :-)

So they price promised something that isn't even on the CPW website?

currys.co.uk/mar…ise

is the price promise.

To quote:

Currys Price Promise in store:

We’ll match the instore prices of Argos, Asda, Comet, Jessops, Tesco, John Lewis…..in fact any local retail store.
In the unlikely event that you find a cheaper price for the same product and offer in a local retail store (which has stock ready for delivery) we will not only match the competitor’s price but beat it by 10% of the difference.

Our Price Promise also applies for up to 7 days after you make your purchase.

Local apparently is within 30 miles of a store that stocks the item.

I should point out I used this route with PC World earlier in the year to match Maplin on the Kiss 1600 Media player for £49.99 (not a PS3 but actually ok, I already have a Kiss DP-1600 and they are certainly not as bad as most techwits suggest).

In both instances got the DSG store to phone the store with the reduced item to confirm the price and VOILA "the cheque is in the mail".:-D

DSG policy is they merely have to check with the relevant store that they are selling the item at the reduced price.

Would be nice to see but I just don't see how this is done. There £34.99 on the website, not 2 for whatever. Just posted some from Amazon for £30 quid each.

Would be amazing if you could get this.:?

The price promise is 10% of the difference, so if a shop is selling at £34.99 then the difference is £8 and the extra 10% will be 80p, not £2.70

Result getting them at this price but can't see it being nationwide, will call my local CPW later to see

Even better scam than I realised.

When I went to the store I had to hang around for about 20 minutes for the CW to answer their phone. When the assistant got off the phone he shouted over to his manager and he gave the nod. He started to work out the discount in his head because he couldn't find the calculator. While he was doing that I flipped out my phone, obviously miscalculated based on my reading of their promise. He then took the figure I gave him and fed them into the system. RESULT!

Need to remember the correct basis for next time. Will change my post.

Feel a bit guilty now, although I guess this makes it even. When I bought the Kiss player earlier in the year I should have got 10% of the £50 difference in price ie.£5. The guy didn't understand their price promise and said I didn't get the 10% as that was only for online deals. As I didn't have anything to counter this I took that as read, but realised later that I had been right.
