I really enjoyed the first game but the bad press for this has really put me off.

All the loot boxes and terrible press have also put me off. I will just rent from Boomerang Rentals. WB won't be getting my money.

unnecessary bad press you can still enjoy the game without buying any extra stuff. The dev trying so hard on twitter to encourage sales

To be fair the devs probably hate all the loot boxes as much as everyone else, its WB forcing them to include them.

Yes but various sites like kotaku have said you don't need to worry about that

Can't finish the game properly without a huge grind or spending cash though, can you?

Honestly you don't even need to look at the loot box screen let alone use it. The game gives you constant loot and orcs throughout. It doesn't even seem to be a case of artificially worsening the game experience in order to encourage payment either like a lot of games these days. I'm all for being anti-loot box, but the best way to support that is to be vocal and not purchase any of that BS.

Also the internet love to get a hate-train going over everything these days and blow things out of proportion, this is one of those cases. I'm glad it's bringing more anti-loot box discussions though. I'd argue games like Overwatch need more criticism for the way their whole progression system is unrewarding and unsatisfying purposely to encourage microtransaction sales. Yes it's just cosmetic, but I enjoy cosmetics in games and find them rewarding to earn.

Exactly. No need to even use loot boxes. Apparently it gives the game an extra 20hrs if you don’t pay to win. I rather have the extra hours than get through it as quickly as possible.

Oh no.! Having to put more than a few hours into a game to finish it? That will kill off most people.

You don't need to use real money to complete this game all you need to do is grind and for me not a big issue gave to do grinding on other games so no diffrent here it's just because you can make it easier people are moaning like hell

Unfortunately Kotaku are not exactly the most trustworthy of places to go to for reviews etc.

Eh to each is own, also not just Kotaku covering this issue, you grind and get what you want makes the game more worth it no?

Pushing free to play mechanics into a single player story game....and a massive grind in the 2nd half of the game...nah

I'm up for this game. Wasn't the biggest fan of the original, felt it was too repetitive and was a mishmash of things we had seen and done before in other games... But the combat was fun so I played it through to the end.

This game will be CHEAP AF a few months post launch due to all the negative press, good for the consumer but bad for the developer.

WB won't blame the microtransactions for poor sales, they'll blame the developer who they'll probably axe who in turn (and I hope I'm wrong) probably won't be around in a few years to make games for us gamers as a direct result from all the unfair negativity surrounding this product.

Let's hope I'm wrong but let's also hope that this is a sign to publishers about what their customer base think of certain business models and we can see the end of all this real world money post purchase.... (spoilers: it's the beginning).

Game is getting very positive reviews on steam despite the MT's which tells you the game must be pretty good, steam users tend to be pretty scathing.

Give me 20 hours of meaningful gameplay and I'd agree. But 20 hours of grinding? No thanks.

I honestly don't understand anyone willing to grind in a game. Its like doing overtime at work and not getting paid for it.

Not a deal, it's a Freebie.

Renders the cinematics at 4K?! What about the game itself?!

Yeah plenty of people do you might not but other's do Destiny and the division are 2 big games that require massive grinding

Loot boxes..... no thanks! I hope this game fails.

Remember when single player games had cheats built in?
Remember when you could mod games, or memory poke to cheat as you see fit?

Now you have to pay to cheat, and the only mods you'll ever see are paid DLC & Season Passes.

Pay to win in concert with the locking down of the game code using Denuvo Antitamper.
You're a fool if you see this as acceptable and support it with your money.

There are plenty of ethical developers & publishers out there, many of whom with far more innovative products than this by-the-numbers remash of Shadow of Mordor. (A good, but overly repetitive game)

"you dont really need to use lootboxes if you dont want" is a stupid excuse, they clearly extended the grind (lower % chance to drop certain loot) to make people feel urge to buy stuff and get it quicker.

Those bloody mechanics should stay in Free To Play games not a premium AAA single player titles!

Those greedy developers and publishers should be shamed for using this shady tactics.

Unfortunately it seems people already got used to over last few years to getting 60% of the game content for 'basic' price, while the rest is being drip fed and locked away behind Season Passes and paid DLCs.

SAD!

Agreed, the sheep who buy this disgraceful rubbish needs their heads examined. They are the cause of these disgraceful rip-off gameplay damaging practices by publishers.

I will not buy this game. At least not until it hits the bargain bins...which won't be long.

I really want this game, and others like it, to fail badly.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is grinding?

The game is really Damn good.

Totally agree. I'm hooked to it and haven't even opened a single loot box. Far better game than the first. Spending my time running around hunting the Orcs.

Unfortunately people get caught up on the moaning on YouTube and the like instead of playing it for themselves. Loot boxes are so unobtrusive. A lot of Hot air.
