Familiar features, enhanced design

Grab an extra controller for your PS5 and play all your favourite co-op games with friends and family. The Sony DualSense Wireless Controller has an innovative new design so you can get the most out of your games. The enhanced design combines the iconic PlayStation layout, with enhanced sticks and a reimagined light bar.

Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers

Replacing traditional rumble motors, the haptic feedback in the DualSense controller gives you more realistic feedback during your game. So you'll feel the recoil of different weapons for even more realistic gameplay.

The upgraded triggers only add to the realism. With varying levels of force and tension, you'll feel the difference when you're hitting the brakes on a car or pulling back a bowstring.

Share your best moments

Building on the PS4's Share button, the new Create button lets you capture and broadcast your gaming highlights (as well as everything else).

Using the built-in microphone and headset port, you can easily chat with your friends and talk online. There's a dedicated mutebutton too – perfect for when you want to switch off voice capture.

hello to everyone who thought the Switch Pro Controller was expensive
Goddamit people - how do we make things so complicated?
Dualsense Controller - Works on PS5 does not work on PS4.
PS4 games on a PS5 - Use either Dualsense or Dualshock controller
PS5 games on a PS5 - Only use Dualsense controller

hello to everyone who thought the Switch Pro Controller was expensive

The Switch Pro controller is expensive, especially when you consider it came out nearly four years ago and has less features than this PS5 pad.

No touchpad, headphone socket or built-in mic yet it sells for the same price. The Xbox pads are even worse since they cost the same yet lack even a built-in rechargeable battery. How MS have got away with that for so many years is beyond me.

If they really want to give people choice they should give everyone a rechargeable battery with the pads and also allow them to use AAs as well - NOT the other way round.
Can’t order a PS5 through Currys but I can get a controller. That’ll be a fun release day....

I think I will wait for below £50 price point, good deal though.
Nice spot @Chanchi32 I expect people should be cancelling existing preorders from the likes of Amazon, Argos etc

Will this work on PS4? Thinking of getting it and use it for that and purchase Ps5 once the price drops.

Doesn't seem like it and as an added bonus you need to keep your PS4 controller for the backwards compatible PS4 games on PS5 unless the devs update them to work with the PS5 controller.

Edit. Sorry, dodgy website. Sony just recommends a Dualshock 4 for PS4 games on PS5 'for the best experience' but it's not necessary. My bad.

No.. Sony are very backwards when it comes to this. PS4 controllers will work on the PS5 but only on PS4 games lol

It's bizarre that these won't work with the PS4 when they are practically the same. Even the DS4 worked with the PS3 minus the rumble. Stupid decision by Sony. It would only help them to sell more pads!
they do button improvments over the years add some touch thing which looks cool and prev before that triggers n rumble features n god knows..

and now everything looks like it belongs on a bloody nasa spaceship,

loving it though!

you can of course use any controller with the PS4 using Titan One, Titan Two etc. The Dualsense should work according to the devs.

i frequently use my old PS3 controller as a switch pro controller, and my xbox controller on my ps4 occasionally

Rechargeable packs that last 2 hours after 1 year? No thanks.. You have 3 options with the Xbox one controller and only 2 with the ps4... Xbox controllers have always been better.

I’m also not understanding this. So to play a backwards compatible PS4 game on a PS5 you need to use a PS4 controller?

I thought it was just that you couldn’t use a PS4 controller to play a PS5 game... surely the PS5 controller can play any generation of game so long as it is via the PS5?

No.. thats not true why is there so much confusion with this?

The Dualsense controller has some new features, exclusive to PS5 games. As such the Dualshock 4 won't work with PS5 games as a result.

That's the only limitation....

You can use both the DS4 and Dualsense for PS4 games! on the PS5

On the Xbox maybe they last 2 hours after a year, I've never had any battery die on any controller that has it built-in.

Whether an Xbox controller is better or not is purely subjective, that's not what's being discussed here. Them not having a rechargeable battery in 2020 is ridiculous. The main argument I read against it is that "oh, if the battery dies you have to buy a whole new controller!" The likelihood of that happening is so low it isn't even worth mentioning.

I'm surprised people aren't complaining their phones don't come with a AA slot

Really what an utter farce! While I could accept the PS5 controller not working with PS4, though it is kinda naff considering the PS4 controller was functional, if not perfect, on PS3, having the PS5 controller not able to control PS4 games on PS5 is utterly laughable. So you have to pick up a different controller every time you want to switch from PS4 to PS5 games, crazy

Sony should ask Microsoft how to do backwards compatibility properly as they obviously haven't got a clue...

Just to add, several PS4 games (specially VR) requires the lightbar (missing from the dualsense controller). You obviously won't be able to use the Dualsense in this instance.

I game on all systems, i think i have like 5 or 6 DS4 controllers in between the 2 PS4 Pros i have in the house, and they need battery all the time. I thought about buying oem batteries with more juice on aliexpress and open the dualshocks because of that. But i just trade controllers now lol. On the other side of the force, my Xbox controllers that i use both on Xbox and PC, i ended buying 2 of those microsoft batteries, but I stopped using them at the expense of rechargeable AA batteries because imho are faster and simpler, put 2 new ones, recharge the other 2. I dont have to "recharge the controller". AA batteries is the best option for me.

Seriously? So anyone new to PS has to spend an additional £40 on a PS4 controller or they can’t play any PS4 games on ps plus/now? How do Sony manage to get away with that?

You mean, as I posted above, a situation like:
PS4 games on a PS5 - Use either Dualsense or Dualshock controller

The Dualsense can do things the Dualshock cannot - but everything the Dualshock can do the Dualsense can either do natively or via one of it's new features.
There are going to be the odd situations when a DS4 is going to be the better choice of controller for a PS4 game on a PS5 - but this is going to be rare and will certainly not make it unplayable on a Dualsense.
Oops. Sorry guys. Accidently quoted a dodgy website.
polygon.com/202…ist

Polygon is a bit clearer. Duelsense will work with PS4 games but Dualshock 4 is recommended for 'the best experience'.
Managed to pre-order one of these for £50 when the Smyths pre-order went live, this is the next best price I've seen.

Well it was the other poster got it wrong that I picked up on. Still think Sony's approach to back compat is lacking though. Your example about the lightbar is a good one, they knew some PS4 titles needed it, yet left it out of their PS5 controller breaking compatibility. Aside from that I think the lightbar was a cool concept, albeit sadly under utilized.

Xbox controller is boring compared to dual sense, but I think boring actually makes more 'sense', if you have a near perfect layout, why change it for the sake of change? Just breaks compatibility with prior games as this demonstrates...

I think Microsoft need backwards compatibility to keep them in the game, (along with Gamepass), as they have been lacking exclusives. Relying on mostly multi format titles put them more in competition with PC than Playstation, that and the 'boring' controller doesn't add any real extra reason for getting an xbox. I also like consoles to have an extra layer of interactivity, along with the convenience and the cheaper alternative to a full blown gaming pc or laptop, so i;m looking forward to how the new dualsense is utilised in games.

Backward compatibility is pretty irrelevant to me as i already own a Crystal Xbox, an Xbox One X and 2x Xbox 360 devkits, a jailbroken PS3 and a legit PS3. a jailbroken PS4 slim and a legit PS4 Pro... also have 3 Nintendo switches in the house... and a hoard of other stuff for emulation like ps classic, snes mini and nvidia shield.

I'd much rather have more exclusive games like we saw last gen than major focus on playing old games on new systems.

Personally, i have always owned all current gen consoles, (i even had a coleco vision and an atari 2600 back in the day). And have pre ordered both PS5 and Xbox Series X

I appreciate not everyone will have all that, but backwards compatibility isn't for everyone.
