It should be: Purchase a B450/X470 motherboard *and* a Ryzen 3000 series processor.

EDIT: title now updated, to avoid anyone being confused by this comment.

Good for newbies who don't know to keep their old chip for a bit before flogging it. Heat.
Its pretty much a standard procedure to update bios and install latest drivers when building a new PC in the first instance.

I wish someone paid me £9.99 each time I updated a mobo bios or built a new PC.
I'd your building your own your competent enough to update your bios since emost manufacturers now just need either a usb, or it can run as part of the OS software that comes with the mobo.

Don't waste money on this

It's not "standard procedure" to have to update a BIOS before building a PC, when the BIOS doesn't let you turn the PC on with the processor you have.

There are some brands of motherboards that let you flash without a CPU, but that's not standard procedure, either.

It is, but it's also not possible to boot most B450/X470 boards without a first or second gen Ryzen CPU in the first place.

For a first time buyer, looking to buy a Ryzen 3000 CPU along with a B450 to save money (or save fan noise, for that matter), then this should be a good service and much quicker than applying for a boot kit from AMD and also much cheaper than buying the cheapest AM4 CPU to upgrade the BIOS with first.

Ohh! Is that the purpose of this. By bad, I read it as if you buy a B450/X470 mobo they will update the bios for you.

I see, the title of the thread has now changed.
Thanks OP, seems good to me, CCL generally have the lowest prices anyway. Think i'll wait and see what the MSI Max versions go for first though, if very similar to existing would probably go for one of those instead.
Buy something and get a free nothing.
If this hardware need features from a paid bios update, DO NOT BUY this!
This reminds me of halfords charging £4 to top up your screenwash for you that you've just bought

Except for the fact that it's free in this case.
A company charging money to provide a service is hardly noteworthy whereas getting it for free is.
TBH, I think this is OK if they're not going to charge you for it because at least they will be semi pre testing the motherboard so you won't get one DOA.
Some people still seem to be largely missing the point.

If you buy a b450 or x470 motherboard that doesnt support bios update without a cpu installed, and a ryzen 3000 cpu, and you dont already own an old ryzen cpu, you are buying two expensive bricks.

The ryzen 3000 will not boot on those boards unless they have an up to date bios, which older stock will not have. In this situation, having someone update the bios for you beforehand for free is quite useful...
AMD are offering a short term CPU loan with thermal paste so you can update bios if your board doesnt support USB flashing without a chip.

I'm not sure they are missing the point, it's that they are unimpressed with being given something required to use the things they bought to make them work 'free'. If you didn't get it, it would not work and you would send it back.

The motherboard retailer should be updating their stock anyway, so as to sell it to more people.

It's a reasonable expection. Not a wonderful freebie...
Stock doesn’t ship directly from the manufacturer hence you have a lag that can only be fixed by user updating bios themselves. If you are building a new pc with a mobo that doesn’t have a bios flash utility, this is actually quite a useful service. Personally I would rather buy an msi board and do it myself but each to their own.
