pretty sure an Airtag or a Smart tag sued l does the same thing

We have airtags for our cats

It does rely on apple devices being present in your area.

i.e. if there is someone with an apple device (iPad or iPhone) in the area of the tag, then their device will silently let the apple "findmy" service know the location. - It does NOT alert other users that there is an airtag in the area.
Only YOUR phone/ipad can use the findmy app to get the location.

We are in a semi rural region, so the airtags will not tell us where the cats are 100% of the time, but it is a reasonable guide to where they go. (We worry about the cats and the roads. If your cat was unfortunate enough to be run over, then it is likely that a motorist (or pedestrian) on the road / pavement who has an apple device, would detect the cat.

If you live in a more built up area then the airtags would be a good option.

We use these for our cats, to put the tags onto their existing collars. (which have their names and our mobile numbers on them)

You can also buy collars with tag pouches

Two of our cats seem to stay in the local area but we were amazed at the distance one of our cats travels each day.

The airtags are also useful for locating your cats when you want them to come in at night.

Apple says the AirTag battery will last about a year. When that time comes, it's really easy to change the battery. AirTag uses a CR2032 battery, the kind of battery often found in remote controls and other handy devices. You can find them in most stores that sell batteries and they cost a couple of pounds each. The subscription is very expensive.

be careful its very large on the cat and not really secure. But when it falls off you can still watch it until the battery runs out.. My cat lost his in a wood next to a school. Police were very understanding after the first day..

we use airtags fitted to the existing collars which have a quick release mechanism, so that if the cats collar got caught on barbed wire/ hedge etc then the collar will release.

We were then able to trace the collar using the iPhone - if it gets a signal from the collar then it will tell you how far away you are and which direction it is in. You can also make the tag bleep, so that you can hear it.

We did lose one which was finally found in some long grass beside a wire fence. (The tag was not immediately visible because of the length of the long grass) - the iPhone took us to within 3 foot of it, but the phone did not seem to get us any closer
    - I then realised that I was holding the phone in my hand which was 3ft above the tag !!!!!!!!
    - lowering my phone to the ground found the collar !!!!!!

These are the quick release collars with personalised name tag collars which we use. We ordered them from amazon.

    Looks massive?

Not sure it's good to attach to the poor cat, despite it being a very useful device.

Hope they can improve these in the future. Seems like a bit of essential tech to keep cats safe.

    7 day battery life?
That won't help if your cat is gone walkabouts!

I had one of these and it wouldn’t work, got a replacement and the battery was faulty… gave up after that.

I’ve got this and it’s really good. Gives reassurance to know where you cat is if it doesn’t come home each day. The tracker is really accurate, it has fallen off the colla off twice in a year but you then go and locate it with your phone. Highly recommended (edited)
