A very decent centre speaker for not much money at all. Goes well with the cheap 1010i speakers (around £85 a pair) or even the floorstanding 1030i's which can be had for between £169 and £191.

For example, I've gone for the 1000C, a pair of 1010i's for the rear and a pair of 1030i's for the front (I have a sub). Under £300 the lot!

This is the older model not the 100Ci.
Still a very good price.

Yup, C not Ci but as it's a centre I'll take the minor quality hit for a £50 or more bonus!

The bracket can be had for an additional £12 from here too.

ive got some 1050's in cherry ive got for sale if anybody is interested? not the i versions but great quality nonetheless... £125 for the pair!?

Tried to PM you but you'll need to clear some space!

Nice. I bought the 1010i 5.1 setup a few weeks ago and it's a decent range. A mere £25 for the centre speaker alone is well worth it. £399 was the best online price at that time, things may have changed, if so, I lost out! :P

Still in stock in Black and Cherry (no Beech) but can't see them hanging around for long. Seriously considering this at a rear centre too for 6.1!

Yeah a very cheap option but it's a bit bulky and ugly to use in that way.

These are more wife-friendly albeit they're another £50 on top:thumbsup:

Although Q Acoustics and QED are of the same, I believe the QED-UK you refer to, to be a different company - a shop/retailer - see qed-uk.com/

AFAIK, QED/Q Acoustics are still going (having recently released the i series).

Good spot! I was just thinking of getting a centre speaker soon; this'll do me for the time. Thanks!

Would it be a bad idea to use this speaker as a centre for my receiver that has an impedence rating of 8-16 ohms?

Thanks Gunark, ordered.

Cheers op, not the same beech colour as my 1050i but at £25 who cares! The centre is hidden away until I need to use it anyway.

No problem at all.

Just don't use bell wire as the speaker cable;-)

Those who are concerned about colour matching could well go for the black as it'll generally match your TV (well, as long as it's black obv..) and other tech gear/furniture!

Haha thanks

Was just a bit worried cause I have a new receiver and front speakers so didn't want to cause any damage!

Just purchased after hopelessly trying to get a KEF Cresta 10C for £19.95 from Richersounds

Now I just need to replace my AV receiver - (with SONY STRDG820? - don't have much money)

The SONY STRDG820 receiver is awesome! I got mine last week, and am really impressed with it Although the impedance rating is 8-16 ohms, and this centre is supposidely 6 ohms. However saying that, I've ordered this centre speaker too. From what I've read and been told, it seems that aslong as you manually set that channel's volume and don't go mad on cranking up the volume, then it will all work fine.

Thanks OP, heat and rep added, and centre ordered!

Hi, just wondering, i have two speakers already and a woofer. can i use this as a centre speaker i.e 3.1 system? i have the normal arcam integrated amplifier. can somebody help me?

Well, no you can't make a "3.1" system with this. Simple as that.

In order to decode a centre channel, the amplifier has to understand how to read the multi channel audio signal. For this you'd need a receiver of a kind that is compatible with (at least) Dolby Digital. These have individual outputs for Front Left, Front Right, Back Left, Back Right, Centre and Subwoofer (5 speakers and .1 sub - 5.1). As these are individual outs, the amp will assign each track from the soundtrack to it's own speaker. Therefore the standard amp only addresses Front Left and Front Right (i.e. stereo) and the sub just takes from that normal stereo signal.

Music - Stereo Amp
Movies, etc - AV Amp

If you bought this and tried to use it with a stereo amp, you'd have no way to plug it in as all the sockets would be used and they don't do the whole 'pass through' thing like many subs do.

Hope that helps!

I just went for a Yamaha DSPAX861SE. A powerhouse of an amp with HDMI, upconversion and upscaling. Doesn't do HD audio but for £250 it's a steal (was over £700 on it's release 18 months ago). Want HD Audio but not the upscaling? DSPAX763, £299 at Richers. Or Onkyo's are sweet too.

Great amp but, (from your link), I hope you realise that you didn't buy it from Amazon.

It appears that it was Hyper-fi.:whistling:

Gawd 'elp you:p

QED UK were another store to get speakers - nothing to do with Q Acoustics I know.

Yes, Hyperfi, but it came and it came in two days - not even using the express delivery. All new and sealed too.

I am using a couple very old speaker for center so at that price I had to order one. Got the black to match the rest.

Just a pity there's a £20 surcharge to Northern Ireland :x

But a very good deal for all you mainlaind folk

Any idea what delivery company these guys use?

DPD for mine

im up in sunny edinburgh and I dont think they get up here. jusp hope it's not bloody citylink....

Mine came via DPD in Nottingham today Looks pretty cool and colour more or less matches my missions, so reasonably happy!

Mine arrived today too. I got the cherry version and it's a very close match for my main TDL's. Sounds good too even without being run-in. Thanks to the OP.

Now just need some good but inexpensive rear speakers to replace the ones that are now completely outclassed by the front 3 speakers !

Agree with phiswak, mine arrived today. Sounds brilliant already. Very Very good investment.
