Q Acoustics Q3020i Speakers - Big, Powerful Sound

The 3020i builds on the success of its multi award winning predecessor. Boasting 125mm (5 in) and 22mm (0.9 in) precision drivers, the Q 3020i speakers deliver deep bass and room-filling sound. The 3020i maintain the same acoustically optimal front profile but have been made slightly taller and deeper giving an overall cabinet size increase of 25%. This increased internal volume has enabled the Q 3020i to gain an extended low frequency response from the ported design so that more-than-ever the smaller enclosures in the range belie their diminutive stature with an impressively large-scale sound.

The Q 3020i speakers can be shelf-mounted on compliant, pre-fitted rubber feet, stand-mounted or wall-mounted on optional, dedicated stands and brackets ensuring the Q 3020i fit seamlessly and fill your chosen listening room with bold, beautiful sound.

Key Features:

  • 25% increased cabinet volume from previous models delivering a larger scale sound and deeper bass

  • P2P™ bracing – helps keep the enclosure extra quiet through computer aided placement of internal bracing

  • Uses a 22mm decoupled High Frequency Driver with wide surround creating a wide even dispersion of stereo

  • Low profile terminals - recessed cut-out reduces cabinet noise and allows them to be used near to rear wall

  • New low profile binding posts have been incorporated with sockets deep enough to accept 4mm (0.16 in) Banana Plugs

Good Speakers i know someone who owns them
Heat
If this is your budget then go for these, I don't believe there are better speakers at this price
Could anyone with knowledge of these things let me know if these are a better buy than the q acoustics concept 20s that can be bought for a similar price?

They're both very similar in performance the biggest difference being the concepts gel buffer in the two cabinet construction , however the concepts have a nicer, more premium finish and if you can stretch to it have very nice matching stands.
If they're the same price go for them.
I've currently got a mix of 3050i and 2050 but have had 3020i previously

That's great, thanks for the info.
Price drop from £199 to £189
I'm still using my trusty Q Acoustics 1010s in a 5.1 cinema setup. Would these be a noticeable upgrade?

I'd be interested in Concept 20s at a similar price. Any chance of a link?
For those that are interested the non-'i' version can often be picked up for £99. I've had the 2020is for around 3 years now and I'm still very happy with them. Specs wise these have a little more upper end when it comes to frequency response, but it's not enough for me to upgrade just yet
Yamaha hs series are way better

These are amazing speakers for the money. Don't expect masses of bass though, they are very controlled and neutral speakers.
Hey hiifi buffs. I have a CD6006 and a PM6006 (latter still to be unboxed since before Christmas deliery! ) and there is a digital coaxial input/output I can use to link them, but do I need to change my current interconnects to 'digital' interconnects?

I'm due for a speaker upgrade (again)

Was thinking of rear and front 4 x FX and a matching center.

My Denon AVR-3800 is looking old now.

Depends on your definition of similar but they can be found at Peter Tyson and Amazon at £229.99

Great speakers, I ran them for about 4 years before upgrading to my Roksan TR5-S2. I'll say that they aren't worlds apart from that speaker too. Scale up well with better electronics unlike some cheap speakers, they sounded great on my Yamaha as2100 amp. They shine in a 2 channel music setup, a little wasted if just running for home cinema though as they will hardly be pushed.

Edit - the separately available stands are phenomenal by the way, best to think of them as an extension of the speaker itself as they further enhance the performance.

I have an optical cable going from Marantz CD Player to Denon Amp.
I used optical over coax since there is less chance of any interference and the cables can be longer. Connected a 5M optical cable from PC to amp.
Q7000i or 3020i?
Great little speakers for the money and a bargain at this price.

Q7000i or 3020i?

3020i by a mile. The Q7000i are tiny in comparison, perfectly adequate in a small space but if you have the space and the money then the performance difference will be significant. The Q7000i package does come with a subwoofer though so there's that in its favour.

What subwoofer could I get to pair to 3020i?

Assuming that you will be using for home cinema rather than a 2 channel stereo? Sub not especially necessary for the latter but pretty much essential for the former.

To clarify my subwoofer comment earlier, it comes with the much pricier 5.1 package but not the stand alone 2x speakers that are similar in price to the 3020i.

The Cambridge Audio Aero 9 is a lot of sub for the money richersounds.com/hi-…tml

A lot of choices around this level though

Yes 5.1 set up. Looking to get avr2600h as well. Thanks
Same price for walnut. That is my rears sorted.

You'll need a centre speaker too then, putting together an amp and speaker system soon gets pricey, then there's the cabling...
Would these be much of an upgrade for the 3010 on my home cinema set up? I've read won't see major difference unless using as music but no idea is that true or not
Very expensive. Many times you can buy them much cheaper.

Not a huge upgrade for surround use. Bigger cabinet will give a deeper bass response but that's not their job in an AV setup.
Do these just plug into my tv or do i need something else also

Cheers that's what I was thinking, I have a decent sub. I'll pass on these then

These are the 3020i(£200+) not the 3020(£120-150).

Great price , shame they don't have Graphite, went with the 3020 instead.

Thanks but...can I use my old coax on the digital coax connections without concern?
What connections do these have?
Currently deciding between these, the Mission LX-2, Dali Spektor 2 or Monitor Audio Bronze 2....any advice would be much appreciated
dumb question, but are these active speakers and are they good for music production? i want to switch my shitty 2.1 trust setup and have speakers for making music and games not just gaming

Yes, I have used a standard rca cable from a stereo pair, select the input source in the amp settings.
Coax or Optical. Can be a pain ita if you are not sure what socket you used and the amp is not connected to a tv.

Not dumb question at all, speakers can be confusing. These are passive speakers so will need a source of amplification. That aside, Q acoustics are accurate/ uncoloured in their presentation so not bad for production duties but be aware that it's not their purpose. Can easily blow a tweeter with a resonant filter on a synth (for example), same as any hifi speaker. That said, just keep the volume sensible when playing.
