Fantastic price. Overkill for most users as a core2duo will do in most cases, but still a great CPU and multiple cores are the future of PCs.

how do i know if my pc will accept this? i have hp t3620.uk

There is a scheduled Intel price drop 20th July.

It may be worth waiting a week to save a few more pounds.

took the words from my mouth i thought it was 21st but cant remember. And i thought this particular proccessor was in the price reduction too so might aswell wait 4 or 5 days and buy it with quite a bit of a reduction

Looks like you'll have a P965 board.......could check for bios updates but I wouldn't put a nice quad chip in that box.

That's a good find, this is a fairly old processor now but great for overclocking - have mine running at 3.2GHz without any problems

It is a great processor (I bought the 3rd G0 stepping one to arrive in the UK for £190 last year and got it to 3.4Ghz straight away) but I am not sure it is worth this amount of money anymore when the new real next gen of chips is going to be after xmas. If you are not in a hurry to update wait until then, if you need a computer now then it is a good find

It's been on Superspecial for at least a month now, at what point does it just become the actual price!

Generally it's not a good idea to start buying individual computer components when you don't know how to check what motherboard you have and only refer to your computer by the name and model number given to it by the manufacturer.

I would say if you don't know what board you have you don't need a quad

BTW........Who added e8400 to the tags?

Banned

Quad core is better then duo core right? But is it twice as better or is it the same old trick like camera MP's?

lol you are a wise person...who does not know how to answer a question. do you nickname your pc or something? :-D just kidding...dont take it personally!

hp says it supports e6x00 but i do not know whether they updated this since they were written.

Motherboard description
* Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS P5BW-LA
* HP/Compaq name: Basswood-UL8E
CPU/Processor
* Socket: 775
* Supports the following processors:
o Intel Core Duo E6x00 with Dual Core technology
* 533 MHz, 800 MHz, 1066 MHz (processor dependent)
Chipset
* Intel P965

Short answer=NO. (re quad with that board).

i have an asus p5h deluxe wifi with conroe due core 6600

will this make any difference in performance?

Not a lot.

Unless you run lots of stuff simultaneously you don't need a quad.

It depends what software you run. If you post a list of the demanding applications that you use someone here should help.
