BARGAIN PRICE, back on sale again. NAS can trans-code 1080P video. I've been able to stream live TV using Plex away from home (useful for accessing UK TV abroad or anywhere really over wifi). Plex DVR and HD Homerun DVR recorders confirmed as working with this 1GB ram model.

Notes:
*Price includes delivery
*Ram can be upgraded up to 8GB for use as a virtual machine (HDMI output).
*Accepts SSDs for super fast access
*Duel gigabit ethernet
*UK Kettle lead required for power pack which costs a few pounds.
*QNAP remote can be purchased if your want to use as a media player with a TV or monitor (likely will work with harmony remotes)
*Codec software available for free from QNAP app store (required to enhance trans-coding performance)
*Discounted ViperVPN available via QNAP app store for accessing other Netflix services etc
*HD Homerun required for live TV

Good price, looking for a nice price on 416play though, heat added

Very good price, I paid £208.80 on prime day for the 2gb with remote control (which I've not used).

Wow... so tempted...

Microserver is better IMO, but this is ok if you don't want to mess with configuring it.

I have this running plex server and NAS. Plex generally works fine across the LAN but can't handle playing to more than one client simultaneously. It also falls over trying to transcode a 1080p movie on the fly through plex to say my mobile over 3g/4g - I get a message saying the server isn't powerful enough. You might want to up the RAM if you start installing apps or start running virtual machines on it, I've upped mine to 4GB but gave up on the virtualisation as it was too slow. Great as a small NAS. One big issue I discovered the hard way is that there is no way to upgrade a drive installed in bay 1 that wasn't initially set up as RAID mirrored to bay 2. You will loose all your system settings and installed apps taking that drive out as they get installed onto this drive in bay 1. I believe in RAID where you have 2 drives mirrored it's possible to replace the drives one by one for bigger ones.

Hi can someone tell me how this compares to a Synology DS216J? I think I've seen suggestions that QNAP don't support mkv files, is that correct? Thanks

Will this run SB and SAB?

Would also love to know this.

Which is easier to use with a chromecast audio? This or the Synology?
