Worked for me when I ordered this morning - expires on 21st Nov. It's EBuyer Ebay Outlet, not the main EBuyer website. It's a one time use EBay code (per account) so if you've used it on something else you won't be able to use it again.
Worth upgrading from a ts253a??

Worth upgrading from a ts253a??

I've had the 253a fantastic little nas for its time. In my opinion I would go for the normal one the B has less features if I remember correct. But I have found most nas are very expensive and limited most don't have hdmi 2.0 can't really support 4k playback. If u have any pc knowledge u should bulid ur own nas I've done this and it's fantastic way better than any branded nas. I use freenas find it fine for cloud storage and media storage and play back at 4k and lower res through kodi plex and emby. If that helps

Well first start by getting ur self a cheap mini itx MB then just get ur self a amd 2400g chip it has a on board vga so u can use a monitor while u setup get ur self some ram I'm using 32gig get ur self a fractal node case they are just a little bigger than the 253a but can hold up to 6 full sized HDD. Software I use is freenas but there are many more I just found that first in the Google search lol then go on utube there are may how to guides on there it may take a few days but honestly it easy if I can I'm sure u can I'm no tech buff I just got to point I felt I was getting well ripped off with brand nas I've had synology too its good but I like the QT software better plus if u connect through hdim with the 253a u could load kodi on to it even tho qnap stopped supporting it.

Would freenas allow me to use hardware acceleration. If not I think I will just build a pc for it like you mentioned below and then hook up the shield tv to the nas to then allow gpu decode/encode. Thanks

Hi yes I think u can I know if u use plex u can go through it on freenas plugins it will then allow u to use hardware acceleration. Its way I did it I set it to let my CPU hurt I think lol. Anyway just Google freenas have a read if it's right for ur needs use it there are a free other good nas software too i even seen synology realise a basic free setup too its got an odd name to it i can't remember and I think it's a very early version that they don't support no more. When u find what you like utube bulid guides like I say it may take a few days to understand everything if ur a novice like me but ul get there I'm registered blind with limited sight trust me if I can anyone can. Hope that helps.
I may just stick
To take-253a as it works fine I guess for my needs

I understand but if u ur looking for a proper upgrade from the 253a I would look at this one QNAP HS-453DX-4G 4-Drive the only issue I had was the price and the lack of full size HDD support.
