The ZXing Barcode Scanner is free/open source, it works fine for me anyway. play.google.com/sto…oid

I wonder if they'll have a resurgence now.

Yes 10 years after the release of the first iPhone, iPhone 5s users and above finally get an inbuilt QR code scanner with iOS 11. Now that’s what I call progress!

I use Google goggles for my QR codes... Pretty cool for similar image searching too

Why does this app need permission to record video? Use the camera to take a picture or scan yes but record?
What sets this apart from all the other free barcode-scanning apps?

I've never seen a prompt for "Allow x to take pictures". I guess if something has Camera permissions that in turn allows it to record video also. Not that it does. Correct me If I'm wrong.

Because when you hover for auto detect it'll be basically recording a video that whole time I'd of thought.

Yep. This is the only barcode/QR scanner you need. Safe and no bloatware. I don't know why you would go for a commercial scanner that includes advertising packages and demands unnecessary permissions to track you

Yes but zxing one seems to need a lot more permissions than this one. I worry about apps raping my phone info

Still sounds better than the Google approach of handing you great features then taking them away. QR code scanner used to be inbuilt into the Google Now app but was subsequently removed, just like how they removed text selection on any screen from Google Assistant.
Why is the link showing the normal version and not the Pro version which is not free?

Bubble Level Pro also free …Bubble Level Pro also free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gamma.bubblelevel2

Here's me downloading APK's for it
I think £2.99 for a bubble level is a bit steep if it were as simple as £1 or so I wouldn't mind
Thanks for the post OP and for this post
Just scanned a few things in but it just came up with gobbledygook. Is it supposed to show the price? Mine doesn't.

But I don't think it does QR codes?

It does, and it's literally the most popular scanner on the platform. Obviously, people think it doesn't because it's called Barcode scanner, but I can guarantee that most of the QR scanner apps use the ZXing framework to read them.
Showing £3.99 for the Pro one
Wonder how many dodgy permissions this will ask for

Good enough for Google as well! If you download their 2 step authenticator, they get you to download this, rather than their own Google Goggles app.

The permissions are explained under the 'More Info' section on the Play Store or the GitHub site:
github.com/zxi…ons

Contacts and bookmarks permissions needed so that app can generate a QR code for any contact/bookmark in your phone which you can share with others.

I've never had the need to ever use these scanners.

How do people use them on day to day basis, always been curious about it.
QR reading is built in to iOS11's default camera app now, Googles new lens app will surely do the same.

Indeed ,in my experience they just take you to a website to sell you stuff you don't need.
I've never understood why I need a QR reader.
Eh? Why so hot? There are hundreds of free ones out there.
If you're still listening OP...
You sound like an app developer;
Thank you for your free app which worked well first time on my LG G4.
It seems a bit premature for you to ask for a rating immediately.
Wouldn't it make more sense to request a rating after the App has been used, say, 10 times.
You message - "I won't ask again", which I think is a design error.
I wasn't prepared to "Rate" an app, immediately after down loading it and beeping the first bar code that I could see find close to me.
I suggest you ask after a month of use or 100 beeps whichever happens first.

Are you joking?
I just c&p from Google play 🙄
I wouldn't have the slightest inkling of how to even start making an app. What in this makes you think it's my app?
I found it on a site that shows apps that are now free and reduced in price,I got this one last time it was free.
I'm assuming you didn't open the link to look and just read the first line of my post?

Ah fair enough, dude. I didn't realise it was a copy and paste. I have no need for the app so I didn't click the link to see the description. It was mostly the "This is ad free (no ads) version of my app" part that made me think it was your own creation.
