Homebase are doing 20% off all mowers until Monday, making this only £39.99. Seems good for a small lawn and gets good reviews.

I picked one up this morning and the discount was automatic instore. If ordering online for delivery enter code DEC20 to get the discount.

If you need a bigger/better mower the discount applies too.

Argos sell it too (at 49.99) - there's 234 reviews on their site (scores just over 4 out of 5 stars overall):

nice find

I bought the Qualcast 40 model about 3 or 4 years ago from Homebase's sister co' Argos (had some prize vouchers)... it bears MANY similarities with Bosch models! Very pleased with it. This looks like a cosmetically refreshed version. If I had any criticism it'd be that they hadn't given much thought to storage - eg folding handle up/over in some way.
PS: Just watched the video and clearly they've been developing/improving the ergonomics over the last few years!

Nice timing - since my current mower has expired.

Its not a real qualcast mower just a licensed use of the name, not saying its a bad mower but sadly the 2 I had were a bit duff. If you check the qualcast website they tell you that these are argos rebrands and even the mower manual does.

32 cm cutting width is on the small side. Okay for small gardens. Would get boring for larger gardens.

But are they still? The wiki says

In 1995 Atco-Qualcast Ltd was acquired by Robert Bosch GmbH and ran as … In 1995 Atco-Qualcast Ltd was acquired by Robert Bosch GmbH and ran as Atco-Qualcast Ltd until 2011, when Bosch sold the drawings, plant, equipment and tooling for the entire existing mower range to the Allett Mowers division of Turfmech Machinery Limited.

so I think what happened is the they bought Atco-Qualcast when they expanded/entered the gardening market and transferred the look etc to the Bosch designs (high torque motors, green/red etc.) but stopped the Qualcast branding in 2011. (The Bosch lawnmowers are made in the UK though so unsure if they kept the factory or built a new one between 1995 and 2011.)

Then in the last two years the Argos group bought the right to the qualcast name. So the current range might be green/red but I don't think they are similar to Bosch beyond that. In other words, the Argos group just brand these as 'Qualcast' as Argos do with other 'brands' that they own

Used it today. Great results, easy to manouevre and seems pretty robust. Can't complain for 40 quid!

Don't go for flymo. I bought a Qualcast 32 inches 1400w (£67.00) last week and regret it as Argos is selling the same thing with a trimmer for only £2 more TODAY. It takes longer and it is a hell of a job to adjust the height. I had to remove the blade underneath, which is a hell of a job. I had to turn the heavy thing on its side and it took my neighbour to help me and lots of E40 to loosen it. Qualcast takes just a flick to adjust the height and the grass does not fly everywhere. Qualcast is lighter as well.

Not to worry, found it... this is desc. from Argos website, showings its a steel cutting blade :-)

Featuring a Hi-speed turbo drive, the Qualcast 1000w Electric Lawnmower delivers superb performance. The mower has a compact and lightweight design with carry handle for easier storage and manoeuvrability. It features a safety switch.

Lawnmower features:

1000 watt.
Steel blade.
32cm blade width.
Cutting heights ranging from 2cm-6cm.
30 litre grass collection box.
Fold down handle for compact storage.
3 position height control.
Recommended for all sized lawns.
10m power cable.
Safety switch.

Thanks

Looks like I'm mowing grass tomora. Was looking out window thinking its bout time grass got cut and I stopped lending other people's trimmers (that take ages n always snap on me)
So this is spot on....is it wrong to be excited to pick this up? One gadget I ain't got, thanks once again for helping me to part with my cash HDUK ;0)

Thanks OP, had some vouchers I needed to use up.

I,ve got this lawnmower, Had it for 3 years now with no problems. Its a great offer if you can get it at this price.

Well, thanks to some good reviews, we bought the Qualcast today (Sunday).

Got it all built up (YES - the box for the grass is a PITA to put together!) and started off. At first, it was hard to push along, but I realised that the default grass height was set to the lowest possible at 20. This was how it was set straight out of the box. Just to be safe, I set it to the highest at 60 and went ahead. Very nice results and it didn't take as long as it usually does to cut the grass! Great little mower and definitely an upgrade over our hover mower.

Picked one up yesterday after seeing this post so Thank You!
