I needed a new scart lead, as old one is bit broken. Poundland has a selection of cheaper ones, but for my surprise they have belkin ones too, 1m and 3m. And that 3 meter one looks especially quality product. The connections are golden colour, its heavy and has a good wire braided sleeve. For £1 its a bargain.

Did they have some VHS tapes too?

I recall the massive difference a SCART lead made to the picture quality to my Megadrive over the **** RF lead. Great days.

I have dozens of old scart leads kicking around (mostly in the loft). Never use them anymore.

Those were the days! That was nothing compared to getting the VGA cable for the Dreamcast though, and treating your eyes to some glorious 480p 'Enhanced Definition'!

Yep, a properly wired SCART that output RGB was vastly superior to RF and Composite on all 8/16 bit consoles and even up to the releases of the PS One and N64, only from the Dreamcast (VGA), PS2/Gamecube/Xbox (Component) did we start seeing progressive scan goodness.

Unfortunately we still have a video under the tv, my wife won't let me get rid of it. So we have a scart going into my viera yuck

It gets used about once a year to watch naff videos of bands I was in, in the 90s. So my kids can laugh at me with long hair.

It's a big silver sony video and just will not break no matter what I do to it, looks great next to my black tivo, ps3 and wii u and nas drives.

grrr

Will it work on my 4k TV?

I’ve got my Sony RDR-HXD970 freeview dvd recorder going into our telly using a scart lead. It makes no difference compared with an hdmi lead, except there’s other things that can only use the hdmi, given there’s only two hdmi sockets. The dvd recorder can get upscaled by itself or by the telly, equally well, so I only use the scart to connect it. It took me a few years to realise that I could do this and not tell the difference, such was my disregard of scart. I mean, I still hate scart as much as I ever did in the ’80s and ’90s, especially when trying to unplug it and finding that it simply dismantles in the hand. But I no longer simply pretend it doesn’t exist, as I did until recently.
