Forget the picture - you may be purchasing an 18v drill - But actually recieve a Challenge 24v Cordless Hammer Drill. A much better model, which you won't get more for your money anywhere else.
The product code seems to be misspicked against the 24v model - so you get that instead.
Here's the spec for the 24v model you recieve -
- Hammer Function
- Ergonomic D Handle
- Soft Grip
- Variable Speed 0-1150 min-1
- 13mm Keyless Chuck
- 15+1 Torque Positions
- 1 Battery Pack
- Quick Charger (1 hour)
- 13 Pcs Assorted Accessories

I bought one this afternoon in-store, and know of others around the country have recieved the same product. It's not been verified on home delivery yet though.
The original product code is 711/1150 (doesn't recognise it on the website) but it's stickered over with this code.

I wouldnt 100% guarantee getting a 24v, they only do this sometimes as a subsitute, it may be worth asking to look at the item before you buy.

I would'nt buy another Challenge product from Argos. I have had 2 now and both gone wrong just out of guarantee.

Agreed, my last challenge cordless drill certainly was a challenge. The battery has never held it's charge for more than a week, which means every time I want to use it the damned thing is flat. Utter rubbish!

It may not be the best, but in reality its gonna be as good as any £14 cordless drill, just getting one at that price has gotta be rather good.

If you want/need a decent one you'll be spend upwards of £100, but if you just need a round the house quick fix jobbie surely this looks like a bargain

That's why i bought one - for the money nothing can touch this - Especially for someone like me who needs one occassionally for odd jobs around the house.
The destructions state the battery will only initally hold aprox 60% charge - though after 6 charges from flat will increase to 100%.
I've used it this morning and works great.
Plus went into B&Q this morning and their own branded cordless drills start from aprox £25 with a lot less power and with a 3-5 charge time. This one charges within 60 minutes!

you did well- I went down to Longton extra store to view the item-unfortunately it was as it said on the flyer -18v and hence not bought since i already have an 18v drill! had they got wise to the mistake?:-(:-(

Someone has reported getting the 24v one this morning from the Norwich store. Sorry your store didn't have them, but i'm sure they're still out there.

Wigan Robin's Park are 18volt:-(

Reserved two yesterday (Sat) on two separate numbers at Telford.
Collected the 1st one (Sun), it was a 24v, collected 2nd one 30 minutes later, 18v.
It looks like pot luck.
18v will be returned.

Reserved one at Belfast Castle Court Store - 24Volt drill supplied. Pot Luck I guess !

reserved an 18V drill at Forbury Park (Reading) Argos, and yes I recieved a 24V drill. I also bought the 3 year product replacement accidental damage warranty for an extra £2.99!. Thanks OP.

What will be if something goes wrong with the product?

Even though it is of better spec. I don't think you'll be covered by any warranty as the item you purchased is different from the item you received

so if i go into store

fill slip in will it come up on store computer its the 24v drill before i pay

i don`t want to pay if its the wrong model

No it will come up as the 18v model but you may get the 24v one

i don`t want to pay if its the wrong model

If it is the 18v model just take it straight back to the customer services for a refund under their 16 day refund policy, you don't even have to leave the shop.

So return it under the Argos 30 day money back guarantee. What's the problem?

sometimes they tell you when you pay at the terminal they have changed the item description

ask to view the 18v drill, if its the 24v then offer to buy it.

stores which have the 18volt are old stock, they have been replaced by the 24 volt version, same cat number. So you will recieve a 24volt only if all the 18volts have gone (insider info

Thanks to the OP. I purchased one of these today and it is indeed a 24v drill.

It only takes 1 hour to charge up, too!

It Is a 1 hour charge baz

it does exactly what it says on the tin

whats your problem

My old challenge drill packed in yesterday.
I bought the 24v drill about 18 months ago, and to be honest for £30 then I have my money's worth out of it. I've used it regularly (extending my house - and moved my dad into his new house) over the last 18 months and its been an excellent item.

The only problem with it now, is that it's trigger has packed in, which I will probably have a go at fixing over the weekend.

Anyway, needed a drill last night, went to the local Argos in Stockton, and bought an 18v for £14, and they gave me the 24v version - so went back in and bought an extra one for my dad.

Can't got wrong, 2 x 24v drills with 1hr charger & battery for £28.
I paid more for one originally.

Excellent find.

Rep + Heat added.

Jav

Just got the 24V version in Oxford. Excellent deal. Dad should be happy.

Got One In Scarborough 24v.
Thanks Good Buy.

It's now down by 2p £13.95

DO NOT BUY ONE!

I bought one of these before I'd seen this post, was well pleased when I got a 24v instead of 18v.
However, I used it to screw in 3 plastic roofing sheets - about 18 screws. On the last screw it made a funny noise and split in two - the front section of the drill just fell off, spilling bearings everywhere.
Argos refunded by money no problems (as always) but these drills are such poor quality it isn't funny. I despise living in a 'throw away' society, avoid these drills at all costs.
I've now blown £100 on a makita instead - you get what you pay for!

I manged to get the 24v version today Sun 06th MAy) in Thetford, Norfolk. They still have stock. Everything said 18v but when they gave me the drill it was the 24v version - Result? Well time will tell.

Thanks so much for the heads up saintscouple.

Cheers

I got a 24v one. I kept the recipt so it it breaks then thy can just give me another one!
