Awesome price once again mike - brill

could i turn this into a media centre PC with freeview?

probably a really silly question but to update my 512mb xp based system which is now 4 years old then this would be an ideal option ?

This is prob by far the best bang for buck so far today

A Celeron running Vista with 1gb of memory and the onboard graphics leeching ram?

Will this machine actually get as far as booting? :whistling:

Not directly. This is not supplied with Vista Home Premium, which is the version which includes the media center software. You could upgrade it, or add different software.

happy new year MikeT - great find once again!

another silly question- if i buy this to upgrade my current pc is there a way of transferring whats on my pc now to the new one ?

remember 5% quidco too!

From the first post instructions..Remember to reduce the warranty to minimum where applicable
Remove monitor too,

Only possible sensible price upgrade seems to be dual core processor +35

do you think its worth adding
Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E2140 Processor (1.6GHz,800MHz,1MB cache)
for an extra £35??

Theres a higher spec version of this with dual core, 2gig ram and a 320 gig hard disk for 175 quid - better deal if you ask me as it will last a little longer

Vista includes a utility called the "Windows Easy Transfer" tool which is similar to the "Files and settings transfer wizard" of windows XP.
It allows you to transfer your data and email accounts settings to the new pc , using a home network connection, external drive or by burning data to a DVD or CD etc.
I would also recommend saving all your data to a DVD/CD in addition to transferring it to the new pc.

Nice deal from Dell onece more thks:). The dual core upgrade is as mentioned above a sensible upgrade.
But if your not planning any major cad/3d rendering etc etc and wamnt a nice office, internet online gaming pc this is spot on imo:).

Forgot to say that is if you choose XP Home instead of Vista my bad.

Incredible value and you can get XP home at no extra cost !!

hiya could anyone help someone who is not good with computers please. I was looking at this deal and the £175 deal but don't know what to go for or if I need to add any extras. The computer would mainly be a family one, it would mostly be used to surf the web and also for my daugher to write up things for school. Please could any one advise.

thank you
alison

Buy this one, hotukdeals.com/for…420 much more for your money imo. You can also add the cordless keyboard and mouse for less than £10 too.

May be of interest to some, the Dell 24" widescreen monitor Dell TrueColor E248WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor can be had for just £296 with this ecode, normal price is £401
Remember though it will only have the same warranty as you choose for the base unit.

Excellent value for money, but giving your requirements and if price is an issue the cheaper celeron version will suit you perfectly. The more expensive dual core's are only are more future proof but un needed if your not planning any serious gaming or have a lot of software that would benifit from a dual core enviroment.

Even by todays standards most home users wont run any software like that. imo

Great find Mike T

Yes either that or buy a USB dongle from elseware to save the pci slot.

If you currently have a wireless setup and want to add to it . Then yes. But they come as standard with RJ45 port & usb for normal modem/cable routers.

Actually a very good point (sorry for preaching lol) these pc's are small form factor and only have one spare pci & pci express slots. And did i mention there totaly silent or as near as. Dell should employ me:)

I agree with MikeT, a celeron processor.. pah they are not worth the hassle. I bought a HP with a celeron, 512 of ram and vista home, it was utterly useless, couldn't even run iTunes without locking up. Here at least you get 512 more ram but I would much favour the deal MikeT has linked to.

thanks for the advise. We would need to run Itunes on it for my ipod, so is this cheap one useless for that? We really don't require much from the computer, we don't do pc gaming or anything, we just surf the web, use itunes (and even then we don't really buy much just use it to transfer cds), and as my daugher gets older she will need to type things up for her school work. I really don't want to spend more than I have to though as money is tight this side of christmas as i expect it is for all.
thanks again
alison

It will be fine for iTunes. These are not the old ****** netburst celerons, this dell has the latest generation which is essentialy intels flagship core 2 duo processor with reduced cache and just one core, they are no slow-coach. Stick in 2gbs of ram and it will fly with vista or xp. £125 is an absoulete steal for what you get, you couldnt build for that price even without vista/xp.

Go for the cheap one then ;-) I was just thinking for the future when she or the rest of the family start to want more from it. This will do all you need now.

Stonking value... Mike, you surely are eavesdropping those chaps at Dell.co.uk.... Well done again for such a superb deal
