Quorn Chicken Style Nuggets 300G - £1 at Morrisons (frozen, just like McDonald's Chicken Nuggets)

Found 17th Jun 2012
Found these at Chorlton-cum-Hardy Morrisons, a bargain and rarely reduced. Got 19 in my pack. Great cheap way to make 2 good meals with some baked spuds and veg/beans/salad. (last time reduced was when Tesco did them 2-4-1 last month but that still wasn't as cheap and had to buy two!)

Mmm, Mold McNuggets ;). Was looking to switch to Quorn & Linda McCartney and friends as part of my diet until I looked at the nutritional content and then realized they didn't actually seem significantly 'healthier' and were just as expensive as quality meat equivalents... good for veggies and vegans though at this price and Quorn seems rarely on offer these days so hot.

Most people don't become vegetarian because they don't like the taste of meat. It's usually either an ethical decision or it's for health reasons. Neither usually mean you don't like the taste of meat so if you can stick to "your" ethical/health requirements and still enjoy the taste of it why not?

Oh and we're NOT carnivores we're Omnivores!!!

You can demonstrate a difference of opinion or indeed offer clarification. However do not resort to personal insults. It's not what we want to see here.

great price if you can actually stomach these, they are nasty

Interesting that no-one replied to the actual intent of the message rather than nit picking.

I would give skipping meat a go (for specific days or number of days) but I wouldn't eat meat substitutes that's admitting failure before you had ever begun, and they are never as good as the real thing.

lol, do you really think its chicken you are tasting when you eat McDonalds? i'm afraid any chicken taste is long gone after bleaching, processing etc. the taste is added so easily recreated its the meat texture that they struggle to replicate with quorn. Linda McCartney sausage rolls are the best effort in my opinion, (probably because sausage rolls are made with a porridge textured slop containing very little meat) oh & veggie hotdogs you can't tell from the real thing. definitely give these a try tho

We are not "supposedly omnivores", we are omnivores by nature. You have incisors to help ingest meat, you have flattened molars to grind up plant matter. You have a digestive system that contains enzymes specifically for the digestion of animal matter and plant matter. You can call yourself a "herbivore" if you wish, but keep in mind, that you could feed a tiger a special plant food diet, that doesn't make tigers any less of a predatory animal. You are an omnivore consuming a herbivore diet. This is not a debate because there is no ambiguity. It's fact.

also nutritional content varies between brands (just like real meat) so have another look you will be surprised, for example Lind McCartney sausages are far superior to meat ones. I love a good chicken roast or fillet burger but i'm put off processed meat because of the amount of crap they put in it so products like this are great.. heat added

what has become of this place? it seems that "I've found a good deal" is being met constantly with"i'm going to be a complete b***h to you because i feel all high and mighty" jeesh get over yourselves critics, if you want to make a tube of yourself then go on come dine with me.

I really don't understand why meat eaters feels the need to comment on a vegetarian food thread. I don't hijack meat based deals extolling the virtues of being veggie. Its a good price so ... heat from me

I say supposedly due to the large amount of human disease caused by a diet high in meat (heart disease, cancer, etc)

technically, yes we are omnivores - but in the developed world our omnivorous diet is paradoxically killing us.

It's interesting how people always moan about how preachy vegetarians are, yet in every single Quorn/Linda McCartney thread posted here you get loads of people telling everyone to "eat proper food" and the like, and yet I've never once seen a vegetarian try to hijack a meat thread

(coming from an open minded meat eater by the way - yes, some things don't taste as good as meat, but in the case of these, sausage rolls etc the meat free options often taste even better, so why not help the animals, the environment and yourself and give them a go?)

I can, someone picking at some poor dead animal.

Thanks OP for posting. Hot.

You need meat for range of amino acids required to survive. You can get them by supplementation. Modern diet is rubbish, excess carbs not fat which is killing us. Diet should be roughly 40% carbs, 30% fat & 30% protein. Look up up Charles poliquin and Matt Lovell who are experts on nutrition. Kill the carbs kill the cancer!

All of you nay-sayers: have a punt, it's a quid!

As a meat-eater, I'll take these over the real thing any day. They taste bloody great and your left ventricle will thank you for it.

all the essential amino acids are available from eating a varied non-meat diet. eating any type of non-varied diet, whether it be meat or meat-free is unhealthy as we all know.

carbs are fine, refined carbs are not.

personally, I prefer to eat a varied diet than to take supplementations.

100% agree that most modern diets are rubbish

You obviously haven't been reading many meat threads. HUKD has quite a few resident meat thread trolls, can't believe you haven't encountered them in 6 years membership.

Histidine - main sources chicken & red meat.
Isoleucine - main sources chicken, eggs and fish.
Valine - meat, cottage cheese and vegetables.
Just three of the essential aminos you need to survive.
Funnily enough all the 10 aminos you require are in cows milk.

not sure what 'main sources' means? maybe these are your main sources?

my main sources for all amino acids come from nuts, pulses and grains (I also eat a lot of spinach!) loads of non-animal protein

hell with that diet, id be a right fatty, ill stick to 90% carbs and distance running thanks

everyone is different, different diets work for different people.. id say a lack of excercise is more detrimental than a poor diet imo

I eat a lot of refined carbs & also distance run (and walk approx 10-15 miles per day and cycle to work and back). Sedentary lifestyle kills!
