Choice of two colours: Beluga and Twilight.

Also available in women's sizing, but limited to one colour (Beluga).

Apparently, this only differs to the ones being sold at/near full RRP (£225) due to it not using Hydrophobic down.

I know this won't suit most people, but if it helps someone...

Oh the very finest garment the likes of us grotty bargain hunters have ever seen.

Is this the Eton Old Boys thread.
Only bankers allowed.

Nice jacket

British brand, but all made in China nowadays.

Absolutely useless when wet, plus watch this because there are better alternatives for your money that aren't cruel to animals.

Love down to wear as regulates heat really well, and lovely and light, but yes that video is shockingly cruel... do we know if Rab, Mountain Equipment or Alpkit check their supply line?

Its all very well Alicia Silverstone saying don't wear down but what are the alternatives, fur or man made fibre made by huge corporations from oil products, lining the pockets of wealthy share holders who take pleasure in avoiding paying tax for our benefit....
I'd like to think M.E. Rab or Alpkit know their market and their customers and would take a reasonable amount of effort in sourcing there main product line. Its not going to be perfect I'm sure.

Er, this isn't a waterproof jacket. So what's your point?

That is th point, why spend that sort of money on a coat that will be useless (possibly ruined) if it rains? You could get something much more technical for that money. Also did you watch the link? Thats a pretty big point for a lot of people.

I'd love to believe that Rab was actually bothered about where it's down comes from & it's not all just marketing speak but I'm just not convinced.
You might find this interesting;

"a lot of sourcing is hidden from by companies for obvious reasons.
the practice of live-plucking ducks and geese does reportedly live on at factory farms in countries such as China, Poland and in feather powerhouse Hungary, where PETA estimates that 50 percent of down and 40 to 45 percent of feathers have been live-plucked by experienced "rippers" who are paid piece-rate.
news program called "Kalla Fakta" ("Cold Facts") ran a two-part expose on the down harvesting industry in 2009. The documentary claimed that 50 to 80 percent of the world's down market comes from live-plucked birds.
IKEA independently verified the figures, found them to be accurate and, as a result, canceled an order of down-filled furniture from China, a nation that produces 80 percent of the world's down and feathers"

In the same way as horse meat got in to our food chain im sure that to a degree the problems apply to down, but as I said before down is a big part of their business and it would be foolish to get it wrong... the horse meat was a smaller part of the super markets business but still had a big impact.
