Every year the RAC says my sister in laws membership is going up. So she says they will cancel and go with AA and they then say she can have the same price as last year. They rely on people not haggling and accepting big price increases after the first year cheap deal.
https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/rac-orange-offer-uk-cover-69-2239672 thanks bigwheels found it. I searched RAC before posting this and the above deal didn't come up
Same deal as above but for 2 of us - £65 for the year. Don't be shy with haggling over the phone.
£69.00 .lookup orange rac on hot deals
does that include nationwide recovery and onwards travel with RAC?
I wouldn't trust the RAC as far as I could throw them. They left my wife stranded after agreeing to go and rescue her while I was in hospital.
Thanks have checked start rescues prices for my wifes 2006 car £35 -£3.50 quidco = £31.50 for equivalent cover so actually dearer than RAC
I never understand why people pay over the odds for a brand name like AA or RAC they are both overpriced. There are exactly the types of cover out there with start rescue and they are a fraction of the cost , you need to look around more people and save money for something you might use once in a year :p
Wouldn't touch the RAC again. Had a breakdown earlier this year repaired at roadside. They claim they only charge for the part not the labour, when I looked up the part later it was half the price paid to them. I'd expect to pay more, but not that much more (£150 vs £309) Complained, and they refused to discuss the matter. Never again.
Brilliant, thanks mate, it works - just booked mine in Luton!
sorted! cheers OP
not sure, but worth a try.. :)
Anyone know if you can go via Topcashback too and still use this offer ?
Was just pointing out that the BUPA and Morrisons links are only 15%
You say that but just recent a friend's wife was left stranded by Green Flag, she was pregnant and had 2 kids in the car with her, they told her there was a 2 hour wait, she had broken down on the motorway, mate had to borrow a van from work and go and tow her home.
Many thanks for your comments. Went for RAC (Vehicle not personal) with roadside and recovery at £54.99 through topcashback and my £24.18 had tracked. Many thanks again.
Wouldn't touch RAC or AA with a bargepole used them in the past & had ridiculous wait times & I still get spam now from AA selling my details off. I always use Green Flag now really cheap, there's usually cashback on Topcashback. They get to you within an hour or you get a discount on renewal. One time they cocked up left me waiting 2 hours but I was at home. Got 50% off renewal & cheque for £50 to say sorry. Always worth checking deals with RAC/AA/GF to see who has the best offer. Don't know if the others do but green flag automatically covers trailers & caravans too.
In that case you won't get 42.50 as it states on Quidco that this cashback is: "for fully paid Personal Cover breakdown policies with a value of £51-£100" (ie not vehicle cover, where the cash back is actually only £42 IF YOU SPEND ABOVE £100!) Still, there are some good deals via Quidco:http://www.quidco.com/search/?search=RAC
I am always nervous with these cash back deals. Having had a few fail. What has annoyed me is when Quidco confirm it but the third party company deny it. Even though they have your money? But I imagine this company to be genuine and it's a great deal.
via topcashback although this may have changed now.
How do I get the £16.80 Cashback?
Took out RAC cover last November on Quidco for £27.99, £17:50 cashback received with no problems
isn't this expired know it's gone to 12 pounds or thereabouts
ok thanx i will get in touch with them and see
thanks op bought it, didn't bother with cash back, reasonable price.
I did this 3 days ago and it did not track so opened a claim with quidco about missing cash and now£42 in quidco has not only tracked but confirmed great price
Glad I cancelled it now lol
Did you guys get your cashback to track in the end? Did you guys get your cashback to track in the end?
RAC are overpriced, many better options, just take time to search.
As I said, as a couple it works out ok for us and the cashback on RAC can take months to pay out, I have seen complaints of having to wait 6 months so yeah it's totally up to the buyer. The cashback goes up and down but just wanted to share an option with people :)
I think CashBack is around £30-35 for a standard (£75) RAC membership now. So anyone recommended would have to give away £5-10 to reward their friend with £25 - albeit, both 'paid' in M&S Vouchers over Cash. Although TCB of £35.70 can actually be boosted by 7% if selecting M&S vouchers - so would be £38 in M&S voucher for a new sign up - or take a £13 'hit' to £25 - and your friend/recommender will get double your give away in M&S Vouchers. So essentially, you need to have selfless friends.
RAC technician caused over £1000 of damage to my van while trying to diagnose a problem, RAC investigated and because he said he didn't do anything wrong they wouldn't compensate, wouldn't touch them with a barge pole again.
Had mine declined 2 years ago so went with aa last year and that was also declined, ****! :|
Comment Cashback is not guaranteed and even if it has tracked, it can still be declined
More details about this green insurance? Please.
£28.99 for full comprehensive breakdown cover with green insurance that I pay every year
Can't see anything about discounted basic roadside cover when I visit the AA Rewards credit card website. Is this deal still on?
AA doubled my premium this year, even though I'm a 'valued' gold member. I'll be trying Autoaid £41 cover for me and husband, this'll cover us with our cars and motorbikes. Not all companies offer cover for motorbikes.
Don't forget, to receive cashback you need to pay for your membership on an annual continuous basis as per the RAC terms and conditions (monthly and other payment options are not eligible).
I looked at this, this year, and personally, I would avoid. The reason is that the very basic cover will only tow you to a 10 mile radius, but that wasn't the reason...the real reason is the national recovery will only tow you home or to your 'destination'. Now what if you want towing to your preferred garage? Doesn't look like an option no matter how much you pay for their top policies! Without trying to sound unhelpful, you'll find the answers you are looking for just by reading the T&Cs. :)
How did I miss the grammar police?, reading on a smartphone I guess smarts. The grammar police are up there with 1 direction and ISIS.
Yes because I was not home. It was me that it wasn't convenient for.
. "For the record they could of come within 90 minutes" .......they could HAVE come within 90 minutes........
I had this done last year i think it was June. The driver/fitter told me that it was a trial to see how it works and maybe they would expand depending on demand. He said that they would let him know if he was with or with out a job by September/November so if this is still going on then good for them. I got the cheapest one's they had i thinks its enduro x3 for £146 total.
6. The offer excludes purchases made through cashback and voucher code sites
do you get the £100 free fuel or am i missing something?
We had auto aid a few years back & they had to take our car to the lakes which was about £70 mile away. Couldn't fault them. I think we just went with RAC at time as they promised us the earth. Yeah my butt sat on it on edge of M5.
Thanks for those responses. I'd never considered AutoAid, but it's now definitely in the frame.
Thanks for the info, Just I look after my vehicles and don't change when the ash tray gets full.
No I don't think so because the policyholder and spouse (or civil partner) are covered, not the vehicle they are driving. The vehicle just has to be properly maintained and roadworthy. Though unless you were really taking the mickey and driving a blatantly illegal vehicle without an MOT, I don't imagine it would ever come up as an excuse to not reimburse.
AA never paid quidco , so its not just RAC. Leaving for RAC - but not getting a deal based upon quidco. Think they give free campaing and caravanning club membership which is what I want.
To be honest it's really worth getting home start cover...I've been driving for many years and the majority of call outs have been cos the damn thing won't start at home! ...worth looking at Autonational Rescue too...you get an extra 3 months cover and the prices are great!
Good if you filled up your Diesel Car in Poole since Thursday.
There's also Britannia Rescue who get outstanding reviews. I'm not sure on price though, but I believe that if you know anyone who is a CSMA member they can introduce you for a discount.
I was doing the exact same thing and I came across Start rescue, and when I saw they have like 4.5 stars in hundreds of review that was it for me. I will also go for the europeean cover as well which will set me back in total £63.90, but i think they also have TCB so its great... RAC was charging me for the same package 120
Just looking at my breakdown cover cus it's up next week, after searching around and not willing to pay the amount rac,aa,green flag etc charge I found a company called start rescue that will do home start, roadside, relay, key assist, onward journey and a few other bits and pieces on my 10 year old mondeo for £35.43, my dad Lexus was a bit more expensive at £53 but that was due to the engine size. Only the car u register is covered but u can add personal cover for £25 I think. The company has great reviews and an average response time of less that 38 mins, for a fiver more than this rac basic cover I'll take my chances with them tbh
£5.25 TopCashback too 0-£50 £36.75 £50-£100
Good spot, also 17 or 18% through quidco/TCB and 15 months for the price of 12 when joining online!
still waiting on my quidco cashback from AA from 2012... think it's just a better bet to buy the cheapest deal without any cashback deals or other shenanigans... oh, and if you DO decide to jump for one of these deals, make sure you cancel the DD after a couple of months as the price shoots up the next year, nevermind the loss of cashback...
or avoid the cashback gimmicks and use http://www.autonational.co.uk/autonational/compare_breakdown.jsp
AA, RAC and Green Flag all do hefty cashbacks on Quidco . Check them all out for the level of cover you want . Green Flag (full monty) actually worked out cheaper (with cashback) for me than a lower level of RAC cover .
Still think the post deserves some heat for the cashback amounts, can get some fairly cheap cover.
easy way to clear cookies????
These are some seriously impressive quidco account balances being posted on here. I too disagree that quidco is 'pointless', but how ever much are people spending to get a balance that high? A genuine question - aside from utilities / everyday grocery spends and such like, are the majority of the spends to get the cash back necessary in the first place?
If you can, buy with Tesco club points. they seem to offer some really good deals, works out even cheaper. Problem is, only a limited number of points and so many things to choose between... TopCashback are a good way to get some points.
Why would you need them? Home start is a ripoff premium for the inconvenience of them driving to your home rather than a quarter of a mile from it. Take the handbrake off and push it that distance. Recovery? Waste of money. Standard breakdown cover includes recovery to a local garage, you can specify your own local garage If you wish.
I see you got 3% cashback on your £100K mortgage through quidco, tracked and paid. Good work 8)
Superior with no energy ratings /data? That makes little sense.
These are far superior comparing to the Aldi and Lidl ones, pricewise - it can be found for less than this elsewhere
Possibly, although as it's main purpose is for transporting it shouldn't make any difference
hi i think that is the EU plug so may put people off.
that one does not stand up 2L bottles, only 1L., plus this is a WAECO coole which is a very good brand in the motorhome camping scene.
That's the theory but it didn't work for me and the further routines sent in response by TomTom failed too so they asked me to send it back for a paid for repair! It seems many others on the net found this too so I would avoid TomTom in future, despite actually liking their products.
start 60 press it down to power button and hold about 30 seconds and it will do hard reset
Amazon reviews 238 Reviews 5 star: (135) 4 star: (42) 3 star: (20) 2 star: (14) 1 star: (27) Average Customer Review 4.0 out of 5 stars (238 customer reviews)
Watch out for it lasting a year and a day when, after an 'urgent' update, it stops working, cannot be reset using their electronic methods and so needs to be repaired by TomTom at a cost of 70 Euros as it's out of warranty. Looking on the net it seems that I'm not alone in experiencing this - and there's no longer that nice little reset button that older TomToms had so the company are making a mint with these repairs costing only a little less than a brand new model in various sales! Perhaps buy an extended warranty to avoid this. Does anyone know of a satnav with a manual reset? I can no longer be bothered with TomTom.
paid 109 for mine from Amazon UK , but its not a great item
For simple quotes I just use sell your car feature on Autotrader. Seems to give a fairly good price estimate.
To those who don't know about it, www.cap.co.uk is probably worth a look. Hazard a guess it's better than this.
I'll give you £450 for it :p
Prices are a mile out All 3 cars in the household are chipped miles in price One of our cars is a 04 plate mazda Worth between 2-2.5k with all option extras Rac value it at 495-595 Silly thing is as a part ex the garage offered us 2k for it recently Webuyanycar is 375 today Where do i sign up oO
What a load a tosh Couldn't even find my car!
I have the 820...it can be a little slow at times, voice recognition isn't great. It doesn't have a SIM card as far as I know - the live services alone are like £40 per year and they connect via gps I think.
I think the Go400 connects to your phone data while the 820 has the built in sim? Or is it the other way around?
Not a bad deal. TomTom Go 400 currently £120 at Staples. With 6% cashback at Quidco, probably a better offer though.
Seems an okay deal, I see you can get it from other places for about 20 quid more. How much is the TomTom Traffic per year after the first year? I was searching and I know it's not the same but I saw the TomTom Go 40 and that is the same size and comes with lifetime traffic updates and maps and that costs £149.99, also the 820 came out in 2011. What would people think is the better deal and why? Also, I have an s4 how does TomTom for Android compare to the standalone units? as I think using a mobile gives you one less device to worry about / secure which can be a hassle at times.
my renewal came at £138.42, this is for roadside, recovery & at home & accident care & motor legal care, it also covers my son i would like to know if this is worthwhile?
This also happend to me just a few weeks ago I explained that you can't fix a snapped drive shaft at the roadside so please I just need a tow Small patrol van turned up and then left promptly ! Eventually got a third party tow after about 4 hours by this time my two children and I were tired and hungry Hence I shall be looking else where come renewal time :)
The terms and conditions imply yes... "RAC UK Breakdown assistance is available to Members when they are travelling in a car, motorhome, van or pickup or car derived van, minibus or motorcycle which complies with the specifications set out below...." [see top left of Page 8 of RAC UK breakdown terms & conditions]
Will this cover both my car and my motorbike does anyone know?
Holy 3 year revival. He has to win something?
How do we find out about the days out offers and any others
Lots of 'deals' on things you don't need to pay full price for anyway - better off with a better deal on your breakdown cover!
I would recommend RAC having had green flag and aa in the past. The service personnel take the time to learn more than basic knowledge imho, or so I have found and can often point out specific weaknesses in particular models.
Here's the correct link. ;)
IF you purchase this, can you later add onwards travel and at home?
Iv'e got dogs. But to blame RAC for an accident is daft. They could have been their 5 minutes or 3 days and still got plowed into.
The 1mile from home thing is a general clause with most breakdown. AA you need 'home start ' otherwise they will say exactly the same to you! It might not be a mile away but if you are on your drive the outcome will be the same
They left 3 Ladies stranded in their motorhome with their dogs on the side of the M40 in the dark for 3hrs a few weeks ago, a lorry smashed into the motorhome killing some of the dogs and badly injuring one lady, they are lucky to still be alive. This has given the RAC a really bad name and I know many dog owners have left in droves. They had previously towed the motorhome a few weeks before, so there reason for the delay not really valid. See link http://www.dogworld.co.uk/product.php/104798
we have a very bad taste about rac. we only had roadside assistance. car didn't start in the morning . we called them and was told we need to pay app 70 for the visit becos the car wasn't 1 miles away from the home. ok, thats fine . a guy came after 3 hours and he did little check why the car didn't start, found out that there was a prob with the key. and din't stay 2 more minutes after so many request when my dad went to find the other key. we let the contract end and never looked back at them..
TCB have a deal on at the moment, where you can get £26.25 cb on breakdown policies from £51 - £100. I want to take out the breakdown roadside + recovery option which shows as: New Member Price - £107.50 Online Discount - £28.51 You Pay - £78.99 So am I correct in assuming that if i buy this i get it at the price of £78.99 - £26.25 which makes it £52.74?
Tried visiting RAC via Quidco site and comes out at £79.95...when I click on this link on HUKD it's £64.50:p T&C's do state this price and offer: "g. Offer excludes cash back and affiliate sites."
OK, thanks! I will change the name!Sorry very bad with posting threads:)
£5 quidco as well?
Would change the thread title as is miss leading stating 'roadside recovery 29.99'... As it is just 'roadside' that is 29.99 and that is the pretty standard price they all charge for roadside assistance. Its the 'recovery' option that most people want and that is what costs a lot more.. Ie 64.50 Roadside at the Aa is only 28 quid btw
Be warned of fake rac patrol men my wife's car broke down he was a dirty beast
Cold from me £245 more than my renewal
£29.99 for Personnel cover online price £42 full price £58 ask for a deal quote cash back and online Personal Cover is for any vehicle regardless the age of the vehicle Quidco better if newer cars
I can't see it's £38, cash back for policies between £51-£100 is £25 -maybe I am missing something... Takes a long time to get your cashback too, paid by BACS only.
that is correct if your vehicle is less than 10 years old.
Yeah but I needed it for 2 people...... so £12 per person is better - paper wraps rock
Personal Cover is for any vehicle regardless the age of the vehicle
Also AA offers discount on theatre tickets
Not bad at all !
Many thanks, will give it a try & fingers crossed for quidco to be tracked!
Open the quidco link, and then open the link through this post. Pay for it through the £78.25 link. I got the £55 deal this way and got a quidco tracking email, but not sure if the quidco will be honoured, I'm assuming that this is how they did it.
Roadside, Recovery & At Home Normally £156.50 Now £78.25 I want the home option too, was wondering how others have managed to get the three mentioned for £78.25 through quidco. The price appears inflated when I go through quidco opposed to direct.
Take off the at home option. Only the roadside and recovery is £55.50
Coming up at £107.99 through quidco for me :( or £78.25 through link posted here.....what to do?
I disagree. Went last ur with the family for free. Yes, lots of over priced cars but then what do you expect! If you want to book a drive or have special access anywhere you have to pay a bit more but that's the same with the festival! They had demo shows and displays going on. Face value of tickets are £25. I got some again this ur when it was posted with the newspaper deal. Got 4 free adult tickets and children under 12 go free anyway so booked for 3 kids. It's a nice day out for free and defo worth it for any motoring enthusiasts!
Its rubbish, loads of salesmen pimping cars you cant afford. Tickets have always been free to this event on friday anyway
Has anyone been to the Moving Motor Show before? How does it compare to the Festival of Speed on the Friday to Sunday?
I new about this but forgot !! THX for that !! heat added
didnt know about this, ill have to see if im eligible
Tend to forget these, good post. :)
Thanks OP, a good reminder.

£25 cashback @ quidco making the deal £15 but i doubt if rac will pay out on this deal through quidco or topcashback
Last time I bought RAC, they stiffed me on the TCB, was meant to be £30.30, but they only tracked it at £20 Multiple messages to TCB never got the rest of the money, so as always with cashback, never assume you will get the money TCB is getting very relaxed in tracking... I am very fed up with them. I was very careful in going via them before I purchased stuff. Now, I had to lodge claim every single time and some mysteriously disappeared from the time log! Of course, they said I could only claim if there was a time log .. and then they gave another excuse that you cannot never be 100% sure you will get the cashback blah blah blah:(oO;):(
I've just signed up with green flag, last time I needed RAC I spent 25mins waiting in the queue, they hung up on me so then spent another 20mins waiting to speak to someone, when they did answer they told me someone would be there in 3 hours! The service is not what it used to be.
Last time I bought RAC, they stiffed me on the TCB, was meant to be £30.30, but they only tracked it at £20 Multiple messages to TCB never got the rest of the money, so as always with cashback, never assume you will get the money
RAC - you can get a family of 5 for around £120

roadside and recovery is only £55, its £71 on the rac main website
Tried this but showing full price and nowhere to enter discount code.
the laugh is at the rac quote not http://www.carbatteriesonline.co.uk. I have bought from them with no problem and fast delivery. :)
Same with me. This Bugatti Veyron of mine will have to go back to the dealer, parts are a nightmare :D
RECOGNISES MY MAKE AND MODEL BUT STATES IT CAN'T FIND A BATTERY FOR IT.
And they were the people I bought from on ebay..... Tbf though, i've never had a problem with their parts website.
what for nearly £40 extra?. are you having a laugh! http://www.carbatteriesonline.co.uk/ for online batteries
It's an April Fule. X)
Looking for Breakdown cover, if this is cold. What would people suggest?
you sign up for this and you are a fule! you get a card to make it official :-)
Totally miss-leading! You will only get the £25 free fuel card when you buy personal based Roadside, Recovery and At Home breakdown cover. The price is £105.00.
I get it , its an April-Fulecard.
I did it last year it took 9 months for me to get paid very cold
my cashback has now been tracked after a 1 hour.
Worked for me too - just got our cashback after 2-3 months. Can't complain at a years worth of cover for less than a fiver
also its not £28 if your car is over 10 years old
did it last year, you do get the cash back but it takes months. Top Offer
