why did you post that review?
It is a typical automatic type review by someone gaining review money.
Total junk as is much of the web sadly, Its even worse than those done by misplaced journalists.

A massive 6.5L at this price. You can't go far wrong.
Great buy if still in stock local to you.

Are you sure you are not getting confused with spit-roasting?

A smaller one maybe, but not a 6.5Ltr. This is a great price for this size, I was looking for one last week and the cheapest was £29.99. This one is the cheapest 6.5ltr on the market today, so try to get your facts straight before posting.

Great deal!

Argos site seems to be down til 2am :x

Great Price Great Size.

In reply to the poster who asked how to cook a joint of beef in it heres what I do.

Just cut up 2/3 Carrots in half length ways and place these on the bottom of the cooker.

Place your joint of beef on top.

Slice up half or a whole onion and put this in the gaps around the bottom of the carrots and the beef.

Pour in oxo (Or your fave beef stock) till you have about an inch or so in the crockpot.

Leave all day then put in the oven to crisp up for say 15/20 mins.

Mash or blend up the carrots, Onions and stock to make the best gravy ever, I was amazed how nice the gravy was. Some people use wine instead of stock however personally this just addeds expense to the meal.

I've always struggled to get a nice tender joint of beef however doing it in the crock pot ive NEVER had a tough joint. Added bonus is I can use brisket joints doing it this way which saves loads of money on say Topside.

This can be done with a whole chicken too.

Beware when removing the chicken though as it the meat will just fall off the bone.

wow 6.5 ltre i bought a 2.5 ones a few months ago when argos had they're half price sale, it's plenty big enough for my family of 4, but was dearer than this

On the sheer strength of this alone we've gone and got a slow cooker, popped to sainsburys and got the roast and veg etc and its just started cooking! Im guessing 6 hours cooking and then crisping up! Thanks so much for the recipe and to the poster for the original find!

Same here. Ordered mine in Leeds and thanks for the recipe. Voted hot.

voted hot cos i think rachel allen is hot, any body with me on this one

Just reserved the last one in Richmond; I've a £5 argos voucher and have been thinking of buying one of these for a while so a 6.5L for a tenner is a no brainer.

Just wondering, how energy efficient are slow cookers in general? We make soup and casserole alot, and tend to use gas to heat for over an hour.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Heat added.

I believe that they don't use too much electricity....

I hope bazclack remembers to tell us how his beef turned out. I have a small slow cooker (only cooking for one or occaisionally two) and could well be tempted to try that one myself

Thanks so much for this posting UKmonkey. We got ours today and it looks fine for the price.

The slow cooker part is very light in weight and the metal finish inside is not smoothly finished. The crock pot is heavy (good) but the finish is dimpled and there are marks to suggest poor quality of ceramic.

I have never used a slow cooker before but the size and price attracted me. The comments left on Amazon about this product are not overly positive but hopefully I will get more than a year's use out of it!

BTW, you don't actually get a recipe booklet; it's an instruction pamphlet with a small number of recipes listed. I'm off to the library tomorrow for some inspiration.

In terms of energy they are the same as having a standard light bulb on.

I know some people use them for currys but I have stayed clear of this as the thought of having the house smell of curry puts me off somewhat.

However I love the smell of it when I walk in after a day at work, A nice stew or Chicken cassorole or a great joint of beef, yum yum.

Yeah man i'm with you..:) http://englishmum.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/rachel-allen-300x256.jpg

oh poo, just picked mine up,and the indicator light doesn't come on.anyone else had this problem ?

i make up beef stock with a knor beef stock cube, and 2 oxo cubes and also some pepper. put the beef in the slow cooker and fill it so half the beef is sticking out and half submerged, half way thru cooking i turn it. i put it on low for 5 hours and it is perfect everytime, thicken up the stock that is left with either gravy granuals or corn flower. leave the roast to stand for 15 mins before cutting. enjoy x
