XFX ATI Radeon 5870 HD 850MHz £124.99 at dabs, cheapest it has ever been, possible misprice. Good card, performs better than a 6870 and almost as good as a 6950 (better in some tests).

You get a free rubbish game (AvP) too!

My goodness this is good if its honoured. Heat added!

What a price! I would if I didnt have a 6950.

Yeah BT shop is the same place as dabs with a different frontend.

I guess it's a chance with the stock but if they honour it then it's fantastic.

DABS have been around for about 20 years and ive always known them to be good. Back before websites they used to send out a monthly catalogue lol loved it. Im sure they will honour

This happens if you try to proceed to checkout (both dabs and bt shop)

The requested quantities of one or more items in your basket currently exceeds the quantity available to order. Please reduce the quantity of highlighted items or order an alternative product.

Ah right, try and order by phone in the morning if it still fails, looks like no stock then

or someone has it sitting in their basket lol

Good deal, no doubt

Stonking price. I've been toying with buying a second for xfire recently but nothing actually calls for two. I suppose they'll only get cheaper too...

I bought a 5850 the other day but am returning it, it 5850 cannot run GTA4 at decent settings
I am guessin the 5870 can run it a bit better but even still I would not buy it, it is almost 3 years old with some old technology that is going to phase out day by day and probably not much improvement with drivers either.
I personally would recommend a 6850 for around £200 with the hope of getting a reference 1 to unlock it and that should last a few years.

great price but none in stock when you get to the basket `here or the BT site my 1950XT just died i did a new GPU

Lol - I think you mean a 6950, as buying a 6850 for £200 in the hope of unlocking it to a 6870 wouldn't be the greatest buy in the world!;)

GTA4 is a CPU-intensive game. A 5850 can handle it fine, but you still get bottlenecked without a decent CPU. 5870 is not almost 3 years old, it is under 2 years old and the "old technology" is pretty much the same as the 6-series technology rebadged.

Anyway they changed it to"2 on order, stock delayed While Stocks Last" now =\

Amazing find if honored and stock available. Nothing comes close to this in this price range. As for GTA4, CPU is holding you back, getting the 5870 or 6950 isn't going to make a big difference in performance over a 5850. Read some benchmarks.

:O :O :O omg this is amazing value well worth it.

It was definitely buyable last night around 10:30, probably until about 30 seconds after it was posted on here :>

Oh well, the 6870 deal posted earlier is pretty good and in stock. hotukdeals.com/dea…056

1) HD 5000 series was released late Q3 or early Q4 2009 (I got one on day of release, so know it was somewhere around then), so nowhere near 3 years old.
2) A flashed HD 6870 still doesn't match up to this cards performance.

Learn your stuff before posting here please, thanks.

As some other posters have noted, a 6870 is pretty much identical, but with lower power requirements, so may be a better bet to look around for.

I have an overclocked 6870 twin Frozr 3, with an overclocked q6600 G0 (3.7Ghz from 2.4 stock), Windows 7, 8GB, and this rig powers through everything I throw at it today, and Im a '3D user' as well as a gamer (use Vue, and SoftimageXSI - two non game openGL graphics heavily apps). Pretty cool given the cpu came out almost 5 years ago, and doesnt look too shoddy against current stock i5s!

I have my i5 750 overclocked to 3.8ghz for GTA. However the biggest difference was installing it to SSD.
I reckon a hard drive bottlenecks the engine as it is constantly streaming your environment.

As others have said the 5850 isn't the problem.

A 6870 is not an similar alternative to the 5870.

ATI "dumbed down" their 6 series to make more money.

A 6970 is a closer match to the 5870.

@James.
True in terms of hardware specs: 6870 has fewer texture and stream processors, (but marginally faster core - and perhaps more overclockable because takes less power). Think the issues with 68xx series may be more to do with drivers though, as the performace gap is reducing with more recent games. Time will tell!

for next time go through Quidco for Dabs and BT shop

i meant 6950, cannot be bovered to quote everyone:

generally - 3 years bit of exaggeration but still old technology. buying a "under 2 year" graphics card is not wise in my opinion.

Aradria - what bout directx 11 tesselation? 2gb memory? is there going to be no need for that down the line?

shadow_boxer - i have read some benchmarks, gta4 does use CPU but you dont know the first thing about my system so for you to tell me what is holding me back is a bit silly.

jukkie - a standard 6950 is better than a 5870 in almost everyway
hwcompare.com/613…50/ and many other websites
a flashed and overclocked one will make it even better.
and btw jukkie your rude

oh yeah and what about better crossfire support?

1) This card still outperforms most of the HD 6xxx range, how much does the age of this card actually matter? Surely bang for buck is what matters here.
2) HD 5xxx is DX11 compliant, so supports tasselation.
3) 2GB is only useful for people gaming on multiple screens, or resolutions a fair bit higher than 1080p (granted there will be some, but the majoiry of people will be on a single full HD display).
4) You're now trying to compare this to a HD 6950, which costs at least £50 more?
Thanks for letting us know if we spend more money we'll get a more powerful card, we honestly didn't know that because we're a bunch of complete morons...
And judging by the link you posted, that maximum 6% increase in performance is hardly worth the extra 40%+ you'll need to pay for the HD 6950 [and even MORE for the 2GB version you are talking about for flashing])

and finally...

5) Me, rude? Maybe... I just don't like people spouting absolute crap.

Edited by: "jukkie" 16th Jun 2011

1) no point in saying 69xx when im talking about a specific GPU. and 6950 is better. age does matter as new drivers will increase performance nd new drivers will not be improving the 5870 much anymore as old product.
2) so just because it supports tesselation that means it is as good as the 6950 series tesselation?
3) having the extra gb does help and is not required just for multiple monitors and high resolution. heres an article for you:
forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho…161
and that is now, so in future im guessing going to be needed more.
4) im not trying to compare it NOW i was saying that from the begining the 6850 was a mistake. considering i was talking about unlocking and that a few other people clocked on that it was a mistake i would have thought you would have understood.
if you read the post you can see all i was saying was im going to get that and i would recommend spending the xtra gettin that instead of this. wasnt taking anybody for a moron. (insecurity maybe?)

and also 6% increase in performance? thats jus dumb

Don't tell me it's dumb, YOU'RE the one who posted the hwcompare link showing the HD 6950 as only having a maximum 6% increase in performance over the HD 5870 (although reading a review of the HD 6950 [with recent drivers] showed to be quite close to the truth).

And I did state that the extra memory would be useful for resolutions for ABOVE 1080p (in that thread they are using 1920x1200, which I do believe is above full HD?).

I think you should read posts properly or STFU?

HE is the one that first mentioned flashing a HD 6850 to a 6870 (me putting 6870 was an obvious typo for those with more than a single brain cell), and then HE mentioned flashing a HD 6950 in his other post.
I was merely replying to him.

F'ing idiot...

Handbags at dawn ladies !

This would have been a cracking deal had it actually been up for sale at this price. It just so happens that I have one waiting to be sold if anyone wants to buy it in commiseration ? ;-)
