Not quite as cheap as the last deal on this from Pixmania, but still a good price nonetheless.

If you're voting cold I'd really appreciate saying why, seeing as this is my first deal.

the card itself is pretty poor in terms of bang for buck. performance is about that of a 4870.

also pixmania.

ehh? Performance is far above the 4870, in fact above the 4890.

For 160ish it's a great card. However I agree, pixmania is crap

just going by reviews.

Having read a good number of reviews, the performance on this is somewhere between the 5770 and 5850, therefore at this price (rather than the ridiculous price they retailed at when they were first released) I think it's about right. Perhaps not a compelling upgrade for those already with a 4870 or similar, but if you're running anything worse then it's a reasonable candidate. Never had a problem with Pixmania before myself, but fair enough if other people have.

Still, it's the best price I can find on this at present, so even if it didn't get stormingly hot I'm not sure it's fair to vote cold...

Your comparison troubles me, the 4890 wasnt exactly leaps and bounds ahead of the 4870 was it ? Its not a bad card, but nowhere near as good as its bigger brothers, and for round about £40 more you could get 2 x 5770's or infact a little more and you can get the better 5850.

If you need a new card, wait a little while and get the 5850.

does anyone know what is the cheapest card to play crysis on very high at 1650x1050 ? ive got a 4850 which struggles, would overclocking my core2duo 2.4ghz to 3.0gz make it any better or is it purely down to the graphics ? any help please ... ...

The 4890 was not a crazy upgrade from a 4870, but still pretty significant.

A 5830 has basically the same specs as a 4890, but has 320 more SP and the benefits of 40nm tech and better gDDR5 chips. So at 160 quid as a 4890 replacement it makes sense.
