indeed, it's great to make stuff from scratch, and in an ideal world I would, but these sauces, especially the white one saves soooo much time!

:-D

Easy lasagne
A big dish that could be eaten for lunch the following day

Preparation time: 30 mins
Cooking time: 40 mins
Total time: 70 mins
Serves: 8 people ( You can amend this to suit. But as the title says it's great the next day).
Course: Main

Ingredients
2tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
2tsp dried oregano
750g (1½lb) minced beef
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 x 600g-700g jar tomato sauce (eg Loyd Grossman's Tomato and Basil Pasta Sauce)
2tsp sugar
250g (9oz) fresh or ‘no pre-cooking required' dried lasagne
2 x 350g tubs fresh carbonara sauce
250g (9oz) grated mozzarella

Method
1 Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan, gas mark 6).
2 Heat the oil in a large saucepan and cook the onion and oregano over a low heat for 5 min until the onion softens. Add the beef and garlic, and increase the heat to medium and cook until the meatchanges colour. Pour in the tomato sauce (your own or mr ragu's), rinse the jar out with 150ml (¼ pint) water and pour into the pan. Add the sugar, season and stir well. Simmer for 10 min until slightly reduced.
3 In a 3-litre (5¼-pint) baking dish, spread a quarter of the meat sauce. Layer a third of the pasta sheets side by side on top, then a third of the remaining meat sauce, a third of the carbonara sauce (again your own or mr ragu's), and a third of the cheese. Repeat the layering twice, using up the remaining ingredients.
4 Bake for 40 min until the top is browned and the pasta is tender when pierced. Leave to stand for 10-15 min before cutting.

Thanks for the recipe Tigers , that was really kind of you

Anytime:thumbsup:

Isn't 'Lasagne Sauce' just 20p's worth of flour, butter and milk?

Quite possibly, but for me it's also about an hours worth of flaffing about, whisking like a mad woman trying to remove lumps, trying to fix too thick/too runny etc

66p any day.

great recipe

But if you a working parent etc and in a rush... brown off your mince with some onion and mushrooms, chuck in a jar of ragu red sauce, then layer it up using the lasagne sheets and the white sauce and top with cheese.

Not as good as proper home made, but still good.

edit: oooh just notice you put mozzarella on yours Tigerallstars, is that good? might give that a whirl!

It's at the cook's discretion.:)

If it takes you hours to make a white sauce, you'd better start the 2009 Christmas dinner now!

No cranberry sauce, bread sauce, gravy, brandy sauce or custard at yours then!? ;-)

Don't forget a VERY large pinch of salt - at least that's what you get with the RAGU version - just take a look at the label on the jar. HORRENDOUS!

Agree it's better (and much more healthy) to make your own.

We all hate Christmas pudding, so no brandy sauce or custard.

We all hate cranberry sauce too

Only I eat bread sauce, so I buy ready made
