Brings back memories of Xmas day I got a blue one with yellow skyway's. Hot for what it was, not on the price.

So want that! £500! Cheeky Raleigh. They should just re-release the burner as a mass produced product while the demand is there. Handful of more years and us children or the 80's will be to old to get on them and the demand will fizzle out.

I'd buy one at £200 (non limited) in a heartbeat. £500 not so much.

Heat just for being cool as hell.

Looks to be an improvement over the 25th anniversary version that I have. That version was more mass-produced.

This issue comes with:

Full 4130 Tange cro-mo frame/fork
Powerstem type 4 bolt stem
Skyway Tuff2 with Shimano freewheel & Tioga skinwall 1.75" Comp3
Raleigh Kashimax Aero seat
Dia-compe hinged seat clamp
Dia-Compe MX-1000 calipers & Tech3 levers
Raleigh Tange shape grips

Much more like the original spec parts. I'm trying to cut down on old skool BMX's though, so I'll have to pass!

Raleigh though

Instant hot vote

I had a 'Mag Burner', blue with the yellow 7 spoke mag wheels, whilst all my better off mates got the 'proper' Burners / Tuff Burners / Super Tuff burners with the Skyway mag wheels.

My God it's beautiful. Andy Ruffell eat your heart out.

Sweet

Devastated at the price. I'd love one... but not that much. Heat for the coolness levels.

Made in China for half the cost and probably the quality. Love one if it was half the price.

Had a Super Burner in June 1982, didn't have mag wheels, always wanted the mag wheels :-)

£500 for nostalga theres me thinking it would be updated carbon or at least aluminium frame and wheels for this money. I had an almost identical one back in the 80's made in Nottingham and it was £50 new back then. i loved it i thought i was so cool.... I blame Brexit.

I had the yellow mags but wanted the z rims

Mag wheels, so heavy... Always found wheelies too hard on my super tough burner.

I asked my Dad for one of these when I was a kid... 'Sorry son, you just have to make do with the one you've got'.
Today I am the Dad... 'Sorry kids, you'll just have to make do with the bikes you've got!'

Is £500 the equivalent of £50 35 years ago? It's probably not far off really. Nice to see them back for a short time, if only for the grown-up kids of yester-year. But don't stick it on the wall like some sort of shrine... Ride it. Ride it like you stole it!

Was it true you could straighten/ true the mag wheels if put in a freezer, always remember that for some reason, think it was cool tech at the time, almost spaced aged, lol

The Pro Burner cost over £200 in the 80s they cost well over a £1000 for a good one now ebay.co.uk/itm…759

And this isn't the first time they brought back the burner.
They did in 2007 and I bought one then.

Hi The bike in ET was the American HUFFY as far as I can remember it had coaster brake too.

Ah memories, I worked in the now long gone Raleigh Factory 2 on Triumph Road assembling Burners & others in the early 80s.
7 of us would knock 10 together in about 10 minutes.

Aww reading all these comments brings back so many happy memories..
Used to come home from school and watch a knock off copy of BMX Bandits on VHS, then ride to 'The Pit' near me, which was basically a big massive hole in the ground and me and few other mates on BMX'S used to do table tops and jumps.
Actually I think the best I could do was swivel the handle bars around so they were facing the wrong way and then ride like that showing off!

Think you'll find its a Kuwahara. Bloke out of Kasabian owns the original bike from the film, paid £10k for it!

Find it hard to believe anyone would pay £500 for this. If anything, it's a symbol of Raleigh's failure to do anything genuinely innovative for several decades.

They did a production run of these in 2007, think 250 were produced and I paid £250. Once I opened up the box and put it together I found it was terrible quality so I sent it back. Buy yourself an original and do it up. I bought a ultra burner, resprayed it, bought skyways all new old stock parts and it cost me £300 in total.

Indeed, by then Raleigh were just assembling bought in parts. From memory the 80s version will have nearly all been fabricated in Nottingham, they had state of the art frame fabrication & painting, Sturmey Archer on the same site will have supplied the hubs, Raleigh will have made the handlebars, chainwheels, spokes, nipples, rims (for the non mag) all produced on the same site.

What's the build quality like?

I loved them in the 80's just think it's overpriced.

I went to the premier of 'bmx bandits' in the 80's and Andy Ruffles came out at the beginning and did a safety talk....i was quite star struck lol...

Hate this site, sitting here going through this whole thing thinking how old I feel now. Dear god this is a thing of beauty, never had one myself but oh my oh my how I wish I had one. The good old BMX days Skyway Wheels, Mushroom grips, mx brakes etc etc etc

I've still got my super tuff burner from 1984, but want this one to

I always wanted a Haro BMX, but all I got was something that barely resembled a BMX from the local Esso petrol station and weighed an absolute ton!

I remeber.

I always liked the gold and black one and they fetch big money today, everyone had the blue and yellow version but my 1 mate had this one and i loved it, I remember taking my mates brandnew Mongoose down the slide coming off it and bending all the back up he was not happy, i bet he still remembers me doing it and hates me for it.

Their recent special edition of the Raleigh Twenty wasn't a huge success and has been heavily discounted. What was a great to ride unisex shopping bike which was easy to store was turned into this.

I'm not keen on the later Choppers either. If you really want one of these retro bikes buy an original and restore it. They are far more likely to accumulate in value too. Mind you if the Raleigh Twenty above went for £50 I'd be tempted to buy it and turn it into a adult sized version of the Raleigh Commando which was originally a slightly scaled down Raleigh Twenty.

What a great read. So many memories. I always craved a PK Ripper. Santa never delivered 😯

Yeah, my cousin had the blue one & we use to bend the mudguards in & race down the hill sounding like motorbikes, happy days!

Yep, absolutely useless, especially in pitch dark, down country lanes!

I'm 6 foot 4. Are these still tiny or have they made them for big kids now! Saw the specs but haven't owned a bike since the 80s so no idea what size bike to ride anymore
