The lowest price I've seen in a while for the latest version of the Raspberry Pi, especially as most other places also charge for delivery.

The 3 B+ has a few advantages over the previous releases, such as a faster 64-bit 1.4GHz quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, faster dual-band 802.11 b/g/n/ac wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.2, and significantly faster 300Mbit/s ethernet.

I have the Pi 2 Model B. Does this represent a good upgrade if all I want to do is leave it in a drawer and never get round to actually using it for anything?

No end of applications.

Some useful ideas here:

I use mine as an emulator for old console / MAME games with RetroPie
This isn't a bad price if you need one today, but if eBay does a 15% discount code again in the near future, it may be worth waiting for that. I picked one of these models up for just over £27 in the last eBay 15% promotion.

Rather off topic, so short answer: Profit Trailer. (I was lucky to get it before they introduced monthly fees). Return rates vary massively...

Definitely- I have now moved the one in my drawer to a plastic junk bag in the attic and replaced with this newer model. Hopefully I will get years of never actually doing anything but with slightly raised expectations.

Bugger. I've only just bought and built up a new system using a 3+ for ADS-B tracking via flightaware and a few other silly software defined radio projects, and could with a bit of extra grunt for the gnu-radio decodes I'm trying to get working.

Oh well, will see what comes out!

That's exactly what I did lol. Question is though should I upgrade to this one and put 2 in the attic? Will they start to breed?

The Pi devs said this time last year they were going to have a 3 year cycle before the next release.

Anyone know if these are good for emulating the amiga? (using whdload)

I'm using Amiberry just with the standard game file format and they tend to work pretty good. There are loading times that way though, so it's like old school in that sense. SWOS for example needs about 2 mins to load up. With WHDload though, it's probably instant but I don't use that. I would but it took so long setting things up, I'm just going to stick with what I've got. Everything plays great though. You may have to switch between A500 and A1200 models for some games, but almost all that I've played have worked fine.

Any recommendations for best Retropie image ?

Download the official one from their site. Source the games yourself and set it up yourself. It’s the longer way round than a pre made SD image but it’s a lot more secure and building/customising it is most of the fun anyway.
Doesn’t take long to learn RetroPie inside out.
I use mine in a mega pi case and running RetroPie with 18,000 games

They do, you can use Bluetooth with the newer controllers from the xbox One S era onwards, check the link below for setup info.

decide on your project first... a Pi 3 model A+ or even a Zero may fit the build and save you £10 for case and cables etc.

I take it you want to connect your phone via Bluetooth to the Pi and then stream music from the Pi to your car's stereo using the 3.5mm audio output? In that case you will have to use the Pi's DAC to convert from digital to analogue.
How easy are ROMs and Emulators to come by these days?

What do you use as an interface in to it? was thinking of doing the same and make a lower energy usage torrent box but i'd ideally want to be able to click on my windows pc and have it load up on the torrent box, then be able to grab it from there when done

My Samsung TV has the PLEX app, was in the app store so didn't have to do anything crazy. You can get a chrome plugin that talks to the torrent app on the Pi so you can tell it what to download from your Windows PC.
