Good price. I have the previous version and been pleased.

I have since bought one of these

amazon.co.uk/dp/…c=1

which is just more handy for me.

So if you want the battery support and ability to connect a HD to multiple devices, go for it. If you want just SD card read/write/transfer, I am preferring the other.

Hope that helps someone.

(I’m assuming it’s more Apple focused, as you Android guys can just pop your cards in and out...what a good idea!)

Good price that, pretty sure I paid nearer the £40 mail previously. Handy kit for traveling with kids and sharing storage.

I use one of these.

amazon.co.uk/Wir…E1Y

Doesn't have the SDcard slot but does support up to 4 external drives via the use of a USB hub and also supports exFAT as well as FAT32 and NTFS.

Also has a larger battery.
Great been looking for something to back up camera sd card while away without a laptop
Only available on the black model, the white is at full price.

Will this split the WiFi in a hotel when they give you a code for one device?
Would this turn a external hard drive into cloud storage?

Can this be used to convert a standard hard drive into a DLNA server and add to my home network.

I'm currently running an older version of the WD My Book World and i'm having trouble with my TVs playing all media from Twonky installed on it.

Ideally i would like to plug a portable HDD into this, plug in the RJ45 to my network and then access the media on my TVS (via DLNA media server). Will that work?

That would be a good cheap alternative.

if i trekked with one of these could I copy sd card photos via this device to my samsung phone storage?

or a portable harddrive via usb?
What a great timing. Was literally looking at this on amazon and this is the first thing that popped up on the frontpage. Just had a question though, can this be used to transfer data from ipad to external drive?

same thing, need a wired connection to share via wifi, this is not a wifi-bridge or mi-fi device, if it was it would be a bargain. You can plug it into a wired router and have wifi, but it does not extend wifi really

Giving people false advice doesn't help, This device is capable of both methods. it hosts its own wifi network for your devices and is fully capable of bridging its own wifi network to another.

Do you have this device?
again not helpful to speculate.

MiFi: It could potentially do this with a 3G dongle in the usb port, might have to flash it with OpenWRT/LEDE to achieve this as it does not have a GSM modem built in.

WiFi Bridge: Yes the device CAN do this but given its limited range you probably wouldn't find it very useful to extend your home WiFi network.
I've got the Lenovo F800 which does a wifi bridge as well as LAN to wofo, I don't see why this one wouldn't as it's a much newer device.

Yes i do actually, Hence why I am annoyed at people making wild claims about its capabilities.
If you took 2 seconds to even scan the manual before answering you wouldn't be making uneducated guesses at its capabilities.
A link to the manual has already been provided and the relevant info quoted.
So...Can this be used to turn a portable USB HDD into a NAS drive\DNLA server on my wired network

The device has its own DLNA service, unsure as to if this is visible via the wired LAN connection.
I personally think you would be better off with a PI for that kind of use.
This device is battery powered and probably not designed to be ran constantly plugged into a power source for long periods.

Just as an update.. I have just tested and the DLNA server is accessible via the LAN port
I picked this up for around £8 on eBay and it is capable of sharing a wifi network so I would certainly expect this more expensive toy to have the same capability.

From the manual:

"Bridge Mode: Never pay for multiple network connections, use WD03 to connect and share connections. "

and ...

"Bridge Mode

Definition: The router borrows an existing wireless Internet and broadcasts it using a different network name (SSID) and password. This application can create two individual networks for two groups of users sharing one Internet connection. "

I'm not saying it'll work or will be easy, but this suggests that the manufacturer is claming the capability.
In fact if you read the Q&A you will see that it definitely can be used to share a wireless network in a hotel across multiple devices.

It IS easy and does work. It was just annoying me that lazy people were telling those interested in buying that it wouldn't work when it is clearly one of the main features of the device.

Thanks for this. Is it any good. Looking to replace my ageing WD world edition with Twonky 5 installed.

Good to know, thanks. I've ordered one. And heat added.
Thanks OP,

Before I punch the buy button, a couple of questions for those that have used one of these in anger (@K13OllieD) on a traditional hotel hotspot.

1st question - I have used similar devices before, connecting to the hotel wifi which is authenticated using a web based captive portal. I am assuming there is no way on the device to authenticate using the captive portal , therefore I assume the first of my own devices that I 'bridge' will get presented with the logon page which then allows authentication. Does the 2nd (3rd, 4th..) device I connect also have to authenticate? Some hotspots I have come across are pretty bright, they spot when multiple devices are in use and only allow one to connect (usually the first)

2nd question - If I connect this device to a hotel hotspot, does the the wired interface get bridged as well ?

Thanks!

(p.s I did read the manual...)

You don't need this, a simpler solution is to use a o.t.g cable (£2+, get a good one, not a 99p job, they aren't all the same!) and (usb) card reader - there is a good, solid fast microSD/SD Kingston reader at Amazon for £8 odds. And then same cable to move/backup the images to a good usb drive, or external drive.(Watch you can supply enough power to the h.d. though) Check the hot deals on here.

But obviously this Rav device gives more flexibility, with the built in battery for charging your phone, wifi, etc, etc
