Razer Blade 14 from USA - 24% off £1200 @ Amazon USA

First post so be gentle...

I have been looking at the Razer Blade for a while but beyond my price range.

Just seen this though from Amazon USA. This model cost £2k normally in the UK, but from Amazon US would work out about £1200. Even if it gets hit by customs duty etc according to Amazon would still only be £1400. Which still seems a good saving (cheaper than the refurbs) given the relative cost of these and the specs:

The

Razer Blade (GeForce GTX 1060) 14" HD Gaming Laptop (7th Gen Intel Core

i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) - VR Ready - Ultra Thin and Light Aluminum

Chassis

Worth the risk? I was going to wait to see what happens in the UK new years sales, and I have no experience of ordering from the Amazon USA. Will you always get hit by the customs charges? Thoughts?

How did you work out the import fees? Looking to get a Gigabyte Aero 15X from the US (about £1,649). Or maybe even an open box one around £1300.

It's literally on the order confirmation page on Amazon, look to the right side.

It's not great is it?

Especially if you get one of bum models (their quality control is notoriously poor), razer tech support is nowhere near on par with one of the bigger tech companies - where do you send back the US model to?

Razer Blade Pro is currently £1,829.99 on their website and you usually get some free goodies during their weekly promotions (backpack, speaker). Obviously a bigger laptop but maybe worth considering?

Should probably add that if you have a university email address can get a further 5% off taking to £1,738.49

Other than what has already been said, another thing to consider is the fact that the keyboard would obviously be in US layout.

I've not voted either way.

What is wrong with US layout keyboard?

Anyway, 14" + 1060 = Gaming Laptop? No, thing does not work like that.

Just pointing out that some things would be arranged differently than people may be used to compared to UK keyboards.

It is still about £500 cheaper from UK though...I hear what you are saying altho Amazon are classed as an authorised seller so comes with warranty still. To be fair over the years havent found sony or dell support to be too good either.

I am needing a portable light laptop so the pro is no good to me, and £1500 after all charges is pushing my absolute limit

Will all Amazon us orders get hit by customs charges? How does it work?

Having never bought anything from Amazon US, I can't give you 100% definitive information - but as far as I understand tax and import duties are added on by amazon into final price, see my earlier tweet of the breakdown. The issue isn't importing the laptop - is how or where you return it if something goes wrong. As far as I understand but Razer UK wouldn't deal with it to get it fixed, so you'd be sending it back to Amazon US, but would that be free? Would they refund the import fees? I doubt it but maybe somebody more informed can let you know.

I love the look of these laptops, but genuinely if something goes wrong and you bought from Razer UK - it could be away for a month getting fixed. Plus these ones overheat like crazy - maybe try one of the ASUS Rog with 1060 in small factor form. Should be around this price.

Just some suggestions: amazon.co.uk/ASU…031

amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

Can get the HP Mixed Reality Headset with either laptop for £30 and sell it off on ebay for £200+
