The Razer Phone price is £699 SIM-free, putting it up against some of the best phones on the market including the Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone 8 Plus, LG V30 and HTC U11.

You can pick it up from Razer's online store in the UK with pre-orders having opened on November 1, while those in the UK also have the option it grab it on contract exclusively at Three.

Three is asking for £49 upfront on all of its 24 month contracts for the Razer Phone with 12GB data and AYCE (all you can eat) minutes and texts setting you back £41 per month.

If you fancy 30GB data with AYCE minutes and texts you're looking at £45 per month, and the power gamers out there can nab a huge 100GB data tariff with AYCE minutes and texts for £49 per month.

There's a cheaper way to get the Razer Phone without tying yourself to a two year contract too, with Three offering it at just £594.99 when purchased with a PAYG SIM.

It's also offering the Razer Phone SIM-free for £649.99, which is £50 cheaper than from Razer direct.

The Razer Phone release date has been confirmed as November 17 in the US, UK and Europe, which means there's not long to wait.

The profit mark-up on these overpriced phones must be huge. For example, what does this offer beyond my Xperia Z3 that I got for £350 sim free when it launched 3+ years ago?

For the newer phones, hardware-wise are offering more performance (perhaps not noticeable for the average user - i.e. non gamer/multitasker), and less power usage (less watts used + less heat outputted) and therefore much greater efficiency (more performance per watt).

Also, there are a few more features (QHD - 1440P screen vs FHD 1080P), better camera (probably - while Sony make cameras, they don't use the best and their processing is pretty bad), better software than Sony (they have a lot of bloatware). The GPU on the SoC is always improving - so much better video + gaming performance. The CPU performance does also increase but not at the same rate.

8GB of RAM is probably overkill, but on my OnePlus 5 - I have seen it use more than 5GB. It's great for multitasking as it keeps apps stored in RAM so it doesn't have to "load up" again. Android will utilise as much RAM as it has at its disposal.

This also has a much bigger battery (4000mAh vs 3100mAh). This paired with more efficient hardware allows for much better battery life on a single charge. Not only that, charging technology has improved a lot more (Quick Charge 4.0+ vs Quick Charge 2.0) which means charging happens much faster, much safer, much cooler and much more efficiently.

One last cool thing that the Razer phone has that no other phone currently has right now is a 120Hz display. This means that the display refreshes 120 times a second which means there are much more fluid animations and more fluid gaming experiences.

This is a phone for a niche market of gamers and tech-heads. Not for you then. Does everything have to be?

The only possible difference between 3 PAYG phone and SIM Free may be that the PAYG phone will have 3 Splashscreen but will still be unlocked as all 3 phones are unlocked. If you can put up with the splashscreen, you save £50. As far as I know three doesn't load on any more bloatware.

I'm not even sure where the OP is getting the sim free price from Three i can't find it.
I doubt Three would even have the splashscreen on the PAYG phone TBH,would hardly be worth messing with the OS for a niche device.

Phone is a misnomer, really. They’re computers that also make calls. My wife uses her 7 plus for everything - she has no other device.

I understand the point you are making, but if I compare my old Z2 to an S7, it’s like night and day. Apps open faster, camera quality is significantly better, location locked and ready to navigate to work before the Z2 has even fully loaded google maps and identified my location.

It’s not life changing, and perhaps not worth the huge premiums flagships demand these days, but it is a better experience.

honestly not much, open a app like messenger it opens both in reasonable time, maybe it open angry bird 10 seconds quicker but tbh most never play games, just fb, camera, chrome

The sweet spot on smartphones these days is £150 - lots of decent devices which will do the job well for 99% of users.

This one is for people with too much money to burn, or more likely borrow. It won't make you happier you know!

I know one or two PC gaming obsessives and they all just have decent but not super-premium phones. My perception is that gaming rig freaks spend all their money on components (and games) and wouldn’t waste their time playing Sonic 2 on a phone or worrying about how much RAM their phone has because it all pales into insignificance compared with their beloved PC.

Honestly I think Razer are looking to sell to a market that doesn’t really exist; although I suspect they’ll sell a few of these because of the great speakers and nice screen. Other than that though I suspect these won’t sell all that well. Hopefully this doesn’t snap in half as readily as the Nextbit Robin.

I think phones market is getting out of hand. If you pay £600 for a phone, and it last you 4 years (and for most people It won’t) you are paying £150 a year just for the device.. and this is not even one of the most expensives, with iphone 8/X or Samsung 8 is worse...

where are the times we paid £400-500 max for a top line phone and £300 for a high end one...

Better off buying on a card SIM free and using giffgaff... I signed up with 3 for a honor 8 and big mistake. Worst network ever. Expensive and signal is dire! Literally unless I'm under a mast or in a city it's useless

So bloody true. Pretty much nothing has changed in the last 2 years

If phones were an empty shell of nothingness that offered people no joy then this would be true. You’re paying for something that you enjoy using though. Some people enjoy buying nice big-name jumpers and bags and some people like buying nice cars that don’t do anything more than cheaper cars. Judging phones as just a necessity that shouldn’t be treated as anything but a financial calculation underestimates the impact of smartphones on the modern world, and how much joy they bring people.

Enjoy whatever phone you like, moan about the price from your perspective but if you can’t justify buying something because it’s too expensive that doesn’t make other people stupid for buying it - and it doesn’t make the product badly priced if people actually buy it.

Personally I think I think a lot of products follow the law of diminishing returns - I fail to see how one dress can be worth £8000 and another perfectly nicely made dress £800. The fact is though, I am not rolling in cash so the difference between £8000 and £800 is astronomical to me where it might not be to some bod living in Kensington.

I have in one hand an iPhone X 256GB and a 128GB iPhone 7 in the other hand. To keep the iPhone X would effectively cost me £700-£730 and my income dictates that this is an unjustifiable cost, so I’ll be sending the iPhone back. I’d still like it though, and if I earned more money I’d keep it - even though broadly speaking it does no more than my iPhone 7 or LG G6.

The RAM will make absolutely zero difference to all of those things. The CPU is a standard SD835 which is available in almost every flagship this year. The games won’t operate at a higher frame rate than any other SD835 phone - I think you’re mistaking frame rate for refresh rate, which is just how many times per second the screen refreshes.
