Bringing on back the good times
Jeez... melodrama much? It's not ideal and this isn't an amazing deal but Android is fine with 1GB of RAM, as is Windows 8.1 and 10 - it will be fine for light productivity and browsing without loads of tabs open.
It's a MediaTek MT8127 (same as in the Amazon Fire 5th Generation)
It's made by Alco Electronics
Probably worth about £70 considering the Keyboard and 32GB storage. I'd rather get something else for the money personally.
TCL Corp licence Alcatel, own Palm (HP) and make Blackberry mobiles.
RCA was massive in the US, these are imported by Asda from parent Walmart.
I agree with you in respect to the comparison between a 2gb ram phone, and this 1gb tablet hybrid ...
Personally speaking, my phone has 4gb of ram, but saying that, my phone didn't cost no £100 odd either?, lol.
But I hear what your saying though. :-)

phone like this price range got 3gb ram, why using a 1 gb tab. the one i got 4 years ago, samsung, 1.5gb ram. my mum use it watch youtube and go online, that's it..... still.... really really slow
Fair enough ...
Ps.
Are you aware that your above HUKD link takes me back to a 2008 thing?.
A 2008 thing where someone was jubilating about being actually able to buy themselves some Brittany Spear's Concert Tickets?.
So it wasn't even a Deal!, loooool, it was a simple Discussion Instead ...
The operating systems manage resources very differently and shouldn't be compared (W10 utilities ram more effectively for very basic tasks), but Android only needs to have a couple of social media apps installed and one will see that 1gb limitation very much eaten into it will become a regular performance problem. This is less of an issue on Windows, since most people access things like Facebook or YouTube via a web browser on that platform.
You really shouldn't go around giving bad info where people's wallets are concerned; 1gb has been inadequate for Android for about three years.
What a patronising comment. It's not bad info and is absolutely fine with 1GB RAM, it is down to managing expectations. Android 6.0 M is manageable with 1GB, it's not the best but it will get by, there are still modern phones and tablets today that are still sold with 1GB (many of the low-mid range Motorolas and Lenovos for example) and people aren't just tossing them in the bin or returning them in droves. Maybe you shouldn't give 'bad info' where peoples' wallets are concerned and make them spend more than they need to by scaremongering when they might just want a cheap, no frills tablet. If it's that bad expire or report the deal as spam so no one can buy it
Anyway given that most of HUKD is full of people giving opinions where peoples' wallets are concerned I don't see how it makes any difference as you need to make an informed decision.
lol i think the end part of the link del by mistake, should be the john lewis moto phone deal
Comment was perfectly good advice. Android needs a minimum of 2GB of ram and 16GB of rom these days to be realistically usable these days, anything less is a struggle and won't be a pleasant experience. Windows runs reasonably well on 1GB down to better memory management as stated.
Tell anyone different to that and you're giving out bad advice.
No it doesn't. It is not a minimum requirement but a recommended one - there is a difference:

Anyone after a cheap device isn't expecting the world nor for it to be butter smooth. And I only mentioned Windows as in an equivalent Windows thread, the same argument will be used. Frankly I only bought it up as the suggestion that you'd rather carve your own eyes out was just melodramatic and stupid. It will not be an optimal experience, sure, but it will work. The rest is, as you say, 'advice' and opinion. You and I might not want a 1GB Android device but granny or the kids might be ok with it
What a patronising comment. Actually, I'd argue that it'd be "grannies" and kids who would have the biggest issues with a device which was frequently slow and unresponsive, due to lacklustre hardware performance.
I wasn't quoting official minimum or recommended spec, the information I gave is practical real life advice based on personal experience. My advice has been backed up by various others on this thread, 1gb just doesn't cut it on recent android builds. Bit like a boat with a hole in the bottom, you could use it but wouldn't want to for long!
Why, are you a granny or a kid? You were telling me about the different between the operating systems which I am well aware of hence calling it patronising and the main point is that while 1GB of RAM is not ideal, it will be fine for some because if it wasn't, they would never sell the things or they'd be returned within 14 days for money back. You will see most of the low-end phones and tablets on here do only have 1GB of RAM and if that's all that's within the budget you don't have a lot of choice. Anyway, it's obvious we disagree, which is fine, others can read and make an informed decision based on that - there's plenty of evidence either side across the internet. The '1GB of RAM is useless' comment is about as widespread as 'no band 20 = worthless' in mobile threads for Chinese phones.
