I can see that this has no internal hdd and is based on cloud subscription.

Any sistem without subscription?
Will do for me to have all data on hdd and will be alright if it has at least 2 cameras.

I have installed two hikvision systems for friends. If you buy the cameras from China you get an EXIR turret type camera for as little as £60 per camera. The only drawback is that you cannot add security updates to them if they are chinese and no warranty. Add a dvr and a 2tb hdd and you are chatting around £320 for the system with two cameras not including the cost of cables and installation costs if you get an electrician in. The picture quality from them is worth the extra few quid.

Also i forgot to mention you need a tv or monitor to view the hdmi feed from the dvr so factor that in as well.

I am a CCTV engineer and Barneyonion is correct. Do not touch this system.spend your money on a quality IP system.

what like?

My Zosi wireless system from Amazon or fleabay is excellent value. 4 cameras and a 1TB hard drive for around the same price. No problems so far, and it's been running for almost 12 months.

y-cam all the way
british brand
free 7 day cloud storage
they have a really small indoor camera ane outdoor cameras too and don't require a dvr - i installed mine in less than an hour
oh, n their app is great too
Edited by: "kg808" 6th Nov

Swann one is rubbish why pay a monthly fee? Pop in to your local Maplin may not be the cheapest but great advice and friendly help. They will explain what's out there and you can see some working examples. Plus any problems they will be able to help

I’ve got a camera that’s WiFi - works well’ footage is quite decent day and night and records only on motion detection onto a built in SD card which I can view anywhere anytime on iPhone & iPad.

Might be another option OP

This actually looks good. BUT its the cloud storage is only free for 3 years. So it'll depend on:
* cost of additional charges
* if you are able to add a sd card for storage instead of p £xxxx amount after 3 years

This is the one I use

amazon.co.uk/dp/…B2W

It suits me as I only really want to record at the front of the house but I appreciate if you need more then one camera it can get rather expensive although I’m sure there’ll be others around at a lower price.

Had mine over a year and it’s been fine and never missed a beat, hopefully it’ll stay that way.

Any clips you want to keep you can download to the phone or iPad - or download on PC and keep, the mobile app also allows you to adjust the camera angle and zoom in and out etc but I think they all do that?

Is PoE the way to go? So many affordable systems are still BNC. I've been looking and was starting to convince myself down BNC route

That one has 1280 x 960p @ 25 fps. If you ever need to call on the cctv it's lily that the footage will be useless and not clear. You need 1080p minimum and even then it's hard to get a clear picture.

Still..nothing good for night vision..2-3-4mp..1080p.. I only need a good and reliable system...

Disagree but eh each to their own

Here’s an image taken from the camera, night mode is equally as clear using daytime mode as the street lighting is sufficient without the need for infra red ( night vision )

I appreciate it isn’t 4K but as I mentioned it suits us

If that guy walking past had just scratched your car how would you describe him To the police and also can't read the plate number on the red car. No detail at all. When my brother had a bike robbed out of is garden even 1080p was hard to get any detail.

That guy is actually a woman and I agree to a point - most of the numpties where I live whom are up to no good are easily recognisable being in a smallish community’ as I keep saying it suits us and is also a very good deterrent which lets face it is better then none at all.

Any robber with a hoodie on will be difficult to recognise so 1080p / 4 K etc wouldn’t be much better if any at all.

Get a Hikvision with a minimum 3mp or 4mp camera POE system, If you value your family and possessions this should be the minimum. you can start with 1 camera and then add more later, my system is now running 4 cameras and 2 6tb hard drives which I have built up over the last 2yrs. Hikvision UK support is also very good

you get free 7 day storage for 3 Years
their plus subscription is currently £5.99/month
I do believe you can also record on a computer

i think this camera is placed too high, it should be placed just high enough so its out of reach, but not too high that you get the top of their head. capturing faces is a must

Any model/s...? And how much you paid for it..maybe I will find a bargain

Maybe standing behind your front door with a shotgun would be a better option? Always seems to work okay in the movies!

I went for a two 4mp camera hikvision set up with 4 channel poe dvr. It's good but let's face facts. Even a £10k 16 camera 4k cctv system can be defeated by a £4.99 balaclava from primark.
Edited by: "qwertychris" 7th Nov

Just to add, you can get separate IR floodlights that work really well at invisibly lighting up your front drive for the cameras... As to quality, decent sized sensor for low light, good bitrate, but yes, fundamentally if it's a professional thief they'll have their face covered from a higher angle; but visible and real cctv will make the neighbour more likely to get robbed than you ;-) we caught a chancer trying to open our car door at 4am, and the neighbour letting her dogs poo all over the pavement with our CCTV

But at least with the Hikvision you can see far enough away to identify him or her before they put on the balaclava

You probably won't find a bargain but you will get possibly the best affordable domestic CCTV system manufactured today
With so many features it's worth joining many of the online forums to get the best setup advice for you

Put in fairly simple terms and examples below:

The recording unit, you need to add your own HDD (the bigger the better, highest resolution storage)

ebay.co.uk/itm…ZQz

Example camera, Max.Image Resolution 2688 × 1520 , there are different fields of view from narrow to wide angle within each camera type

ebay.co.uk/itm…CNS

POE ( power over ethernet )Cable that connects between the recording unit and the camera (this powers the camera and takes the video back to the recording unit)

ebay.co.uk/itm…NRQ

Thanks scarl

I would strongly suggest exir turret over any dome design. In the hikvision range the difference in night time quality is noticable due to glare from the dome.

WD Purple

I have 2 Seagate 6TB "enterprise" drives from the USA in my system, these types are the longest life drives available but are expensive.
But I started with ordinary 3.5' used drives and then changed them over time.
Even with 12tb of HDD I only get a 24 days continuous storage which will overwrite itself once full and separate event recording at the highest quality.
