Found 10th Oct 2014
Find out if you qualify by phoning 0345 6039439 or visit gov.uk/the…eme. The deadline to apply is 30th of January 2015.

You qualify for the discount if on 12 July 2014 all of the following apply:
your supplier was part of the scheme
your name (or your partner’s) was on the bill
you were getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you get Savings Credit as well)

If you don’t qualify:
Some suppliers can offer the discount to vulnerable people (eg those on a low income).
Each supplier has their own rules about who else (known as the ‘broader group’) can get this help.
Check with the supplier if you meet their rules for broader group help and how to apply for it.

Doubt many people on here will be eligable for pension credits, but could be good for older relatives etc

Many people qualify through the 'broader group'

No one in northern Ireland can get this

This has been posted a few times on here but it's always good to remind people it's out there. I found I actually qualified due to medical reasons, even though i'm not pensionable age.

The downside being that i'm stuck with British Gas for the forseeable future. I've had so much sh*t from them in the past six months i'd love to switch suppliers, but if i did that, i'd lose this discount.

I wonder if students qualify under the broader group, it is freezing already.

When does the vouchers get sent out x

Not if your with OVO ENERGY

I just applied . thanx

lol@ freezing,it's not even Winter

You could try ringing this helpline its a freephone number, usually these types of things you have to be claiming some sort of disability benefit or have a child under 5.

But you need to speak to your provider ideally.

The Home Heat Helpline

The Home Heat Helpline is a service for vulnerable customers struggling to pay their bills. It is funded by the energy suppliers, and provides information on grants, payment schemes and benefits that may be available as well as basic advice about energy efficiency.

Does this apply in Northern Ireland?

Here's info if you're with British Gas for example.

What is the Warm Home Discount Scheme?
The Warm Home Discount (WHD) Scheme is a 5 year programme introduced by the Government in April 2011 and administered by energy suppliers to provide rebates on the electricity bills of households that need it most in England, Scotland, and Wales.
The Warm Home Discount Scheme (WHDS) offers eligible customers a one-off payment on their electricity bill. For Winter 2014/15, this will be £140.
The WHDS separates eligible households into two groups - the 'Core' group and the 'Broader' group.
Core group
Pension Credit customers who are automatically considered for the discount.
If you meet the following conditions, you do not need to do anything now to get your discount in 2014/2015. The Government will write to all those potentially eligible for the winter 2014/15 discount in autumn 2014.
You may qualify for this energy discount if on 12 July 2014 (the qualifying date) you are the named account holder or partner and:
Receive only the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (without receiving the Savings Credit) OR
Receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit as well as the Savings Credit.

To find out more about the eligibility criteria, please visit this page:
direct.gov.uk/en/…his link will open in a new window
Broader group
Under the WHDS, suppliers have discretion over which households fall under their Broader group criteria. Each company has its own set of qualifying conditions.
British Gas uses a wide set of criteria in order to provide support to a greater number of households.
Who is eligible?
Broader group is open to existing customers who must continue to be in supply of their electricity with British Gas when the payments are made in Winter 2014/15 (which could be any time up to 31st March 2015).
In order to qualify for the Warm Home Discount you (account holder or partner) are required to meet the following criteria:
In receipt of the Savings or Guarantee & Savings element of the State Pension Credit (unless already qualifying as part of Core Group).

OR

In receipt of one of the following means tested eligible benefits:[1]
Income Support.
Income based Jobseekers’ Allowance.
Income related employment and support allowance (which includes a work related activity or support component).
Universal Credit (low income elements).

And includes one of the following:
Child element for children aged 5 or under.
Disabled child element.
OR
Customer has a gross annual house hold income (HHI) of less than £16,010[2] and the account holder is living with mental or physical disability or illness,or there is vulnerability within the home (children living in the house aged 5 or under) or of pensionable age.

OR
Customer has a gross annual house hold income (HHI) of less than £16,010[2] and spend 10% or more of household income on energy bills to heat the property.

Please note that we may ask you for documentary evidence to support your claim, as required by Scheme Guidelines.

Scottish Power are on the list, so I would give them a call. You might be on a waiting list as the demand is so big.

Just had our voucher from EON for £140. Well worth finding out if you're eligible.

All you need to do is contact your ele supplier with details of your household income ,which benefit you receive and NI number and they will tell you if you qualifyif you do they can register you .

Do any of the Energy companies help if you are a Full time carer for a sick relative?

I didn't get a voucher last year. It was credited to my EDF account.

I had a letter through from my company saying they acknowledged that I had applied for it and they would write back to let me know the outcome. Same as last year (EDF).

im with EDF and didnt know about this, as this time last year I was working. Im now a carer on income support and my hubby is on DLA so we now qualify. I applied for this just over a month ago when it was posted in here. I had a letter from them when I first applied saying they were looking at my application, and ive now had a letter confirming that I qualify and the £140 will be credited into my electricity account in Feb/March. definitely worth trying, the worst they can say is no isnt it? if you've already applied and not heard anything, i would definitely contact them.

Tell that to Max Dillon...

Any ideas if Wales is eligible for this?

No Wales doesn't count

Just applied for ours.
£130 on 15th march 2015
Scottish power.
Thanks.

Next year its 140 not 130

My friend got it last year and she lives in Cardiff. She's applied again this year so you have nothing to lose applying for it.

You don't have to stay with British gas @hankhandsome..I changed my supplier to Edf a few years back and still qualified :-)

Jut to make people aware that even if you apply now, your account may not be credited/or you may not receive vouchers until the end of march...but you should get a response to say weather you qualify or not before then

Are you sure on this? any evidence please?

I work part time and get tax credits do I qualify?

lindys

I work part time and get tax credits do I qualify?

Probably

applied for this for my mother couple months ago with eon owing to their broader group rules.

This is one post that should be repeated every now and again...as it is.

hot op, good info for vulnerable and poor, especially if its a really cold winter

I am with SSE energy, and receive job seakers allowance and nothing else apart from my rent and council tax but SSE told me where to go

My mum got this they wrote to her and automatically gets taken off bill

Yeah, I qualified due to being over 60 and health problems and on JSA, but can't find out if I can claim the amount which will be left over after paying my electricity bill? (,as you normally can once a year if you are in credit) also why does it go on the electric, most folk heat with gas?
Does anyone know if they would let me claim ?
