Hopefully this is loaded with trade secrets.
cex sell a 2tb sg barracuda 7200 rpm hd for 30£
If you’re always on the lookout for cheap drives check out a seller on ebay called stuffusell – they often have used drives for reasonable prices (and some not so reasonable - they have a weird pricing system)

Recently, they were selling new sealed vintage 2008 Hitatchi SATA drives for £6 delivered – none for sate atm though.
Early model Western Digital "Green Power" drive? Run, run fast and run far.

Wish I knew this . I have bought 3 from amazon ... 2 x 320gb & 1 x 500gb.
Paid £14 for the 500 & £12 something each for the others.
This is plain garbage...
These are from the ol' sky boxes if I remember

Best comment.

If from a business PC, this has been on for years and years. Slow spin speed. Plenty of room for an OS, and low power, but a few pounds more and you can have something which will equally run Windows 10, lower power, silent, faster and brand new.

Tbh I don’t really understand what all figures mean. I just know that for 3 cameras I have a week of 24h recording with 500gb hd( 460gb)
Means I don’t have to format it every 3/4 days lol.
I’m in no way tech savvy. But when the £’s sounds better I’m in
2 years? This clunker has to be 7 years old if it's a day. It's only a 3Gbps SATA drive for a start and everything has been 6Gbps for years.

Checked the spec sheet online and it's dated June 2010 so this drive is 9 years old and has probably been spinning, not so quietly, in a basement for the last 8 years.

I had 4 of the 640GB versions of these and all 4 of them went back under RMA for replacement. At least one of them was replaced more than once. Avoid.

True same as the 2.5" 320gb drives for current talktalk youview boxes or the 500gb ones in the old Virgin Tivo-500 boxes - on all the time likely to start generating bad clusters so not really a savvy buy.
As already said, better off getting one from CEX.
500gb drives are only £5 and £6 with 2 years warranty .
If you can't get to a store (or not in stock near you), P&P when buying online is only £1.50.
