Record your phone calls with customer service!

Found 21st Feb
There's probably better apps out there for this, but this works well on my android phone. Hopefully others know of apps that will work for you.

I'm sure most of us have had problems with customer service representatives before and wish they had a copy of the phone call. I think we will all be better off if everyone records phone calls with customer service. They will eventually have to give us good service. Maybe I'm deluding myself though.

For best results ask them if they mind you recording the conversation.

tend to use Live Chat these days as there is usually an option to have the entire transcript emailed to you when u r done. already used to great effect to get out of a new contract after the customer service dept told me a load of lies.
I think legally you have to tell them you are recording the call.
IOS sucks for stuff like this!

Tell them at the start of the call you are recording
I use ACR, had a few different ones over the years but they would often record the other person well but not me. ACR seems to work fine, but it does contain ads.

Interesting - I'd heard this (but I'm already using ACR) - does it declare that it is recording? (don't want a beep lol

If it's for personal records, no you don't have to. If it's for business use... or you plan to share it with colleagues/ etc or you intend to rely on it for legal reasons then yes you do. A court wouldn't accept a recording where you did not make the 3rd party aware

This is nonsense.

If the call already says it is being recorded for training purposes there is no need to tell them.

If you are collecting evidence of a crime being committed against you then you don't either.

are you trying to start a fanboy war ?
I have to agree. As a developer, the iphone is a piece of crap and so is it's OS.
Android has it's flaws but it's just a superior platform both in developing for it and it's execution, and I prefer open source to closed source any day.
Uniinstalled this. Caller very faint .............cold
I use Total Recall for £4 per year.
I use RMC: Android Call Recorder. Free. It's good. You can set microphone options and volume.

Only customer service ? Oh Kay
i'm sure if you call customer service and advise you are recording the call then they can advise that they are not continuing with the call.

Probably loads of reasons for this but would think its because you may be trying to 'bait' them or you are unable to store the call securely or may pass to others without their permission etc

They can record the call as you are the one phoning and they can securely store the call and use it in a non 'dodgy' way (like selling it to the sun)

Thats my 2 pence worth

Have you actually ever done it or is it your guess? I have told customer service few times that I am recording and they were fine with it.

It certainly does. Been trying to find a free app for ages.

I use this app. It works well. No disrespect to the above poster, more a comment on the widespread myths around this but the first part of this is correct- personal use recording isn't "illegal" and no, you don't have to tell the business (whereas they need to tell you). Second part isn't- courts have wide discretion to admit or refuse evidence. In civil or employment claims relevance is generally the overriding factor. But as 99.99 % of recorded calls never get used beyond pointing out to customer services of whatever firm, that in fact, they promised x, the question of "legality" is utterly academic. It's where people use illicit recordings (visual or audio) for blackmail, revenge porn etc that the police might be interested. Not Jo Bloggs recording BT customer services.

Wish I had this app when dealing with Barking and Dagenham housing.

As a private individual, under UK law there's no requirement to inform people you record calls.

Companies / Sales calls etc are different, and must inform you the call is recorded.

Hence the usual 'your call is being recorded for training and monitoring purposes' spiel you hear all the while.

You mean the 2nd. Party. As a reference to the person you talking to, at the other end

'The Sun' though... :-/
Hubby installed the free version on his phone, tried it out, and is quite impressed with it. To upgrade to Pro is says it's £2.49 Is that a one off payment or a sub? It appears to me to be a one off payment. Also see that to buy the Pro version (not upgrade) it's £4.49
I must have missed something important - is this application on special, is it a hot sale, is it cheaper than it normally is? Otherwise why contaminating the space? Would it be of significance to a respected OP if I started a post in hear that I saw a yellow brick a on a Thursday or a bird doing bad stuff on a car? Aside of this I find the post very valuable, thoughtful and indeed awakening in a way facilitating an important subject in life in this country.. In turn I would like to start another one of no lesser significance. I see very few applications applications on.Google Play to deter people from fouling in public places. Please tell me anytime you disagree. Thank you, OP

Wow! I'm guessing that you work in customer service. What you seem to have missed is this is a free app in the freebie section. Also this site is for people looking for a good deal. The problem with trying to get a good deal is that you often have to deal with people like you customer services. Judging by all the comments above, which I'm guessing that you didn't bother reading, there's a lot of people interested in this. If you are not interested, then just move on. Why do you have to be like that?
All right, I confess, I am indeed in CS... And I am sorry sorry sorry:(

I actually don't mind iOS too much and recommend it to anyone who is crap with computers in general.

I use an old iPhone 5s strictly for Waze.

I've gone back and forth between android and iOS over the year but after the last swap I'll never go iOS as my device.

People like my wife, parents, elder relatives are better with iOS as it's locked down and easier to use. For us tech savvy peeps it has to be anything but iOS.
I just tell the cold callers I'm recording the calls, and they hang up on me, it saves me the bother.
Great app, have used it for years now across 2 devices. No delay, crashes or messed up sound like I got with other recorders I tried.
Forget legal side, this is great for recalling dates/times/appointments forgotten.
Is it a one off payment for the Pro version or a subscription?
I use the Free "Call Recorder" for Android from the Play Store, does what it says on the tin, fully automatic records all your calls, never missed a beat.
