Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 western-themed, action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar San Diego and Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the second game of the Red Dead series and was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010, in North America, and three days later on May 21, 2010, in Europe.

Taking place in a wide open-ended environment featuring western parts of the American countryside and northern areas of Mexico, Redemption is presented through a third-person perspective. The majority of the game's story takes place in 1911 and follows protagonist John Marston, a former outlaw, as he is forced to hunt down his former associates by corrupted government agents.

RDR is a 10 year old game that was brilliant in its day and still better than a lot of current games, particularly on the One X. RDR2 is a work of art, a beautiful world that you can immerse yourself in, with the best graphics and most artfully crafted world of any video game.

Is it broken just on the One or is the 360 affected as well? If it's ok on the 360 I might have to dig mine out from the back of the wardrobe and give it a go

On the 360 there is a workaround, because the 360 allowed you to delete updates. Basically the last update this game had broke the undead nightmare campaign

It's very in trend to hate on RDR2 and I've no idea why. RDR is a masterpiece but it's showing its age a little.

I just found the 2nd one a bit slow, bloated and a little clunky.
Looking forward to this hitting gamepass

RDR2 is a prequel to the original, so it makes chronological sense to play the 2nd then play the 1st.

That was the reason I bought Xbox one x, so I could play rdr1 and 2. But I hate playing shooting games with controller. I was able to finish rdr1, but I had to pass playing rdr2 with controller and at 30 frames per second.
So now I'm playing on pc with mouse rdr2 at 60+ frames, with is epic.
Looks amazing on the one x. I think the storyline on Rdr1 was much better. Its well worth the price and a must play. Obviously the graphics on Rdr2 are better, its 10 years later. One of the best 5 games i have ever played. Buy it

I bought both on XB1X to play them enhanced at 4K, even though I have them on PS3 as well (sub-720p resolution).

What's your suggestion? Should I play them on PS3 instead of XB1X?
If not played this you really must! I've not got around to playin the new one yet,is it good?

I think the new one is excellent but you need to commit to a couple of hours a session as it is a slow burner
Can you play RDR1 on a PS4? (The PlayStation version not the Xbox version).

Had quick shot and didn't like the controls, suppose I'd get used to them. Just wish when games companies mate new games based on old classics they'd just do another great story with improved graphics. All the added on stuff isn't wanted or needed.

Is it worth buying just for single player please? I don't care much for online games as they tend to just push purchases in your face

Agreed
Might be unpopular but I thought Red Dead 1 was better. The voice acting and music were amazing.
RDR1 is in my top all time games along with Super Mario 64 and GTA San Andreas. If I go back through my saves I think my original white horse, or “Horsey” as he was known is still there until the end.

I bought RDR2 upon release, played to part way through chapter 2 and then left it for a year as I just found it very slow going. I then had a little time late last year and we had upgraded the telly (though not the XBOX one X which I got afterwards). I still played most side missions offered but didn’t bother with all the stuff at camp and it made for a better experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it, chapter 3 onwards, and it’s a superb game, if not quite as groundbreaking/memorable as the first one.

I fired RDR1 up afterwards for a comparison, and it has really aged - I’m not sure I’d want to play it through again having completed RDR2 relatively recently. But, I think it’s well worth playing both if you haven’t before.
Graphics are outstanding on RD2 and show up RD1 but the gameplay in RD1 more free flowing IMO and less like a series of chores.
RDR1 is a bit faster paced and more of a Hollywood Cowboy Blockbuster.
RDR2 is a Slow Burn epic.

I only buy Rockstar games for the single player. I have never played the online modes although I am sure they are probably great too.

The single player in both are awesome. If you love old western style films you will love the single player in these games.

Personally I would say I liked RD2 more simply because there is so much more freedom. I am the type who thinks right I am going to go to this place and get a mission. Then when I am on my way there some random thing happens and before I know it I have lost 2 hours just doing my own thing...

I have the 360 version on disk and just played it on xbox one x, you get all the high definition stuff free. Great game.

Would be cheaper buying it on disk though but a bargain as I live digital media
£6 at CEX and very sure you could get this cheaper on FB marketplace etc, doesn't seem a great deal for such an old game
Never lets me buy any of these games as it says it’s only available to buy in the US...
Playing RDR1 at the moment- must be about 3/4 through. Its a good game and i'm loving the stories and characters- but it is basically a series of mini missions separated by a lot of horse riding!
