Reduce the cost of your O2 contract for nothing @ O2

O2 had been charging me £27.67 a month (£21.67 for a 300 min/unlimited texts + £6 for a 500MB data bolt-on) on the O2 300 24 month Bonus tarrif. I just logged into my online account to see what options I had to change this tarrif. And I'm so glad that I did. O2 has recently updated the contracts it provides and the price it charges. Now listed in this allowable list was a tarrif offering me 300min, unlimited texts and 500MB data, the exact same stuff I had before, for £25 a month. That's a saving of £2.67 a month while keeping the same minutes/texts/data. I say why not check your account to see if you can make some savings!!! Needless to say, my contract end date remains the same.

Optionally, you could also pay the same price and get higher allowance, like I could've paid £27 a month for 600min/unlimited texts/750MB data!

BTW, it's NOT a SIM only contract. I got a phone an S3 when as part of this contract within a week of the phone being released. So if yours is a SIM only, then this may not work... and that's no reason to vote cold.

Check out these screenshots that I took during the change of tarrif process:

Helper edit: the new tariffs do not include the 20 free picture messages that the old ones did, which have a value of £7. These new tariffs will charge you 35p per picture message.

HOT, but please do check if the change will affect any retailer cashback (i.e. 10 months free from the likes of CPW/P4U/mobiles.co.uk/dia…ble mobiles) - this saving could cost you much more than it saves. Technically (i.e. per T&Cs) changing down your contract where you bought via any retailer could lead to them charging you the 'cost' of the phone.

That's coz its not a sim only. I got an S3 on this contract when it was just released!

Thanks for the headsup I'll check it out later. I pay far too much on O2 especially for data bolt on

Thats madness!

Giffgaff 500mins, unlimited texts, 1GB of data, £10 PAYG and uses the same network!

thanks

I pay £19.xx for unlimited minutes unlimited text and 1gb data. So I think am on a ok tariff oh and I got an iPhone 5 back in October.

Didn't save me anything, but it was worth double checking. Voted Hot

If you're SIMO then Tesco are very competitive and use O2 Network.
I've just signed up for their 12 month contract £10 monthly:- gets 500mins, 5000 texts 2GB data.
I'm well pleased especially 'cos it's capped! (_;)

Thanks just saved some money per month + extra 500 O2 to O2 minutes. Yes it's much cheaper elsewhere but I like being able to tether as a backup.

As he said, this came with a phone, did yours?

Agreed that its much cheaper at giffgaff, et al. But they are sim only. If you dont want to shell out 500quid in one go on a big brand phone, then contracts like these work out better.

I'm with T Mobile..300 minutes,500 texts,1GB data and unlimited calls to landlines (including 08 numbers and voicemail),Got the Galaxy Note 2 free as well....£26 a month

I thought it was a decent deal, but then again I'm a non techno wrinkly

No doubt some of you phone whizz kids will tell me its rubbish..:D

I can found on this website, where i can upgrade my tariff

Thanks for this OP - just called them up and have gone onto a similar tariff to yours, for iPhone. All I've 'lost' is 300 minutes (gone down to 300 from 600, which I never use anyway) and my bill has gone down £11 a month. Heat added.

I did a similar thing recently, was on a £32 a month, 600 mins, unlimited texts, 1gb of data, all I did was drop to 750mb of data and now im on £23 a month

Im with virgin, unlimited mins & txts, 1 gig data, for £5, sim only

Rip off that touch

With a phone is ok

@ the OP:- Wow!! That's still HUGELY expensive!! O2 seem to be the most expensive out there, seems they take advantage of their loyal customers who tend not to look elsewhere. When you look at other company's deals, I'm surprised that they still get away this.

I'm surprised you say that. It was one of the cheapest contract on the S3 at the time, and me being a HUKDer wouldn't pay a penny extra that what its worth. It was 27 quid a month with 50 quid upfront, which was offset with a 50 quid cashback from TCB, so free phone!

Great!! Thanks for posting. Just saved myself £8 for the same package I was previously on but with slightly more data?!?! Strange! Heat from me!

saved 2.67 a month for same thing. whats not to like

I just recently got this from o2:
iPhone 5 64gb (no upfront payment)
£27 P/M for 48 months (£17P/M airtime / £10 P/M iphone)
Unlimited calls & Texts and 1 GB of Data
This was an upgrade though.
annoyingly they wouldn't honor the same deal to my partner, seems i was just lucky?

Old tariff £32 for 600 minutes and 500MB data (£5 bolt on)

new tariff shows - £27 for 600 minutes and 750MB...

OK O2

The phone isn't free though is it, not when you consider that other providers can offer close enough to the same allowance as yours for less than half the price. (on sim only deals)

Thanks very much - didnt even know about this and have saved £6p/m

depends if you've just locked yourself in for another Xmonths/years really.. if you havent than i guess better than nothing.. if you have... then... oops.

Why does everyone like showing off there own deals, if the thread isn't applicable to you then you don't need to get involved.

I m on Ovivo and very happy with it.
Just one off £15..

Saving £5.83 with this, thanks OP!

I moved from orange to o2 recently....Did a fair amount of looking around and even tried the old trick of threatened to leave Orange to try and get a better deal (which i obviously did leave in the end), but even the best of the orange deals was terrible in comparison to O2.

Currently on 24mth, 600mins, unlimited text, 750mb for £22 p/m....had to pay £170 for the S4 tho....but sold my old S2 for £120 and got £27 odd cashback, so was ok in the end.

It's not a free phone if you want to put it that way, the cost of the phone is build into the contract. But if I had 450 quid to spend upfront for the phone at the time when it was released, and was able to find 300min/unlimited texts/500MB data SIM only deal for about £8.50 a month, it would have worked out the same... But neither did I have the upfront money, nor was there a SIM only deal for new customers at that time for that price. So this deal was best afforded. (But again, even if I had 450 quid at that time, and there was a SIM only deal, I would've still gone for this deal that I did, just becasue I could put that £450 away in a bank and earn pennies interest on it, rather than pay it to a retailer and let them sit on my money)

Just looking now, looks like i can save a few quid, only got till March then my contract is up, not renewing it so does this extend my contract at all?

Ok i have found the answer.
