Probably would but mine had a 250gb drive fitted when purchased and I think you might have a problem cloning your drive to a smaller size drive. If its a fresh install no problems. Have you had the dreaded on / off button problem on yours? I now get used to holding the button down a little longer than normal to switch on. How a company like HP could get an On/Off button so wrong amazes me!
There are a few 240/250GB models available for £25 including the Lexar. Fitting is usually simple and I have fitted them in a CQ61.
When the drive fits in a cradle it is secure but if the drive slides into a slot although it still works ok a spacer may be required to keep it from moving. The spacers are no longer supplied with any of the drives afaik because they were only needed when replacing the older (thicker) drives. Wouldn't take too much ingenuity to find something to serve the same purpose though.
Good find op.

No issues with power button, might buy as could just reinstall windows
Cause was thinking putting this in hard drive slot and the hard drive coming out buy a fitting so the old hard drive can go in the cd drive slot
Any of you with cq61 do any other upgrades to it as mine is still as is,
Anyone tried these? What sort of real life speeds please?
I paid the £1 extra and got the PNY for £15.99, seemed to review better, not much info on these and the stuff I did find said it's the same spec as one regarded as poor (although they did say it could be a firmware issue with the other and the Lexar may not have the issue).
