It does say in the newspaper ad "Selected Stores" but it should be National

They had this offer in my local Lidl a couple of weeks ago but it was just the Australian Shiraz and Merlot. I bought eight cases (48 bottles). The Shiraz is just sublime! I recently was given an expensive bottle of Barolo which was decidedly so-so. I opened up a bottle of my £2.99 Ozzie Shiraz last night and it beat the Barolo hands down! Highly recommend stocking up before inflation starts to let rip.

Please could you post a pic of the ad? As can't seem to find online. Thank you!

Nice find op, cheers, heat added

BEST FOR A BBQ: AUSTRALIAN SHIRAZ
Why not try: Australian Shiraz: £3.89, at Lidl

Syrah grapes, known as Shiraz in Australia, produce full-bodied, fruity wines and they've been used in wine since Roman and Greek times. The flavours often found present include peppers, berries and chocolate. Syrah is usually bottled alone as it tend to have some of the strongest flavours of any red wine. It's perhaps no surprise that it's the perfect tipple to go with an Aussie style summer BBQ. Raniero Lomartire, Head Sommelier at Buddha Bar London, said: 'This is one of my favourite wines and it's perhaps not by chance that it means princess in Arabic. Australia's most popular grape varietal, produces more Shiraz than any other New World country. Shiraz is full-bodied with high alcohol, and vibrant berry and plum flavours for both the nose and palate. Australia's hot summers and cooler winters impart a complexity and structure that collects well and is a worldwide favourite. Shiraz is described as robust and spicy with a slightly sweet finish. This wine can overpower more light dishes so is good with stronger flavoured food and anything barbecued. It also pairs well with Wagyu beef, crispy black cod and spicy seafood.'

Why not try: Australian Shiraz: £3.89 from Lidl – bold, spicy and generous this richly flavoured wine has smoky undertones and is perfect for the BBQ.

Different year but probably similar

Cimarosa Pedro Jimenez, Chile 2013
(Lidl, £3.99)
A grape best known for making treacly sherry in Spain and as the base for the South American pisco grape spirit, Pedro Jimenez (or Ximenez) is increasingly turning up in dry white wines from Chile, here providing a crisp, clean, citrussy no-frills seafood match.

[2014] Lidl master of wine Richard Bampfield recommends Soave Classico 2014 (£4.49, Lidl) “The word Classico means that this comes from vineyards in the heart of Italy’s famous Soave region in the Veneto,” says Bampfield. “This is dry, fresh, appetising and easy drinking, with subtle notes of fruit kernel.”

Thanks and have just bought a few bottles.Hot.

Just back from Lidl (again!). Bought another seven cases to go with the eight that I've already stashed in the garage. Stock up now people. Thanks to Brexit, we are heading straight for a prolonged bout of 1970's inflation. You may never see wine at these prices again, ever!

try Baron St Jean from Aldi, red & white, £2.99 highly quaffable.

Have tried the Baron St John and yes, it's okay but as I recall it's something like 12% alcohol whereas the Lidl Shiraz is 14% and I like my wines to be on the heavier, porty side.

great!! cheers!!

Both gone in my local. Will hopefully have stocked up for morning after my night shift.

Got the email from my local, Polish week nothing about wines. Will have to pay a visit tomorrow (Scotland). Here's hoping.

Has anyone seen this in Scotland?

I see the governor of the Bank of England is now suggesting 3% inflation next year with more to feed through in 2018/19. He also says food is going to be the fastest to rise and pooper people will get hit most. Well done Brexiters! Give yourselves a huge pat on the back. Don't think I'm going to share my stash of £2.99 Lidl plonk with you. You can by your own...

I bought all 3 this morning for research purposes

Now trying the Soave - it is very good for £2.99. I'm serving it colder than recommended (10-12C) - mine is only about 2-3C. Really gluggable with no harsh aftertaste.

drinking the Shiraz as we speak. Lovely and spicy - you'd never know it was so cheap!
