how do you work out your hand size for boxing gloves?

For boxing gloves (like those that are the subject of this "Deal")...

4oz to 12oz for heavy bag, pad work, & cardio kickboxing; common for ladies or those with smaller-than-average hands
14oz or 16oz for sparring & cardio kickboxing
18oz or 20oz for heavier weight classes

Ladies gloves will usually be 10oz or 12oz, but some may prefer the larger (typically considered "men's") weights (14oz or 16oz).
Gloves for children; probably 4oz or 6oz... maybe heavier if specifically for teenagers.

PS. For MMA & 'hybrid' ("cage fighting") types...

Hand circumference is used, but will be dependent upon the brand.

RDX, for instance, use this sizing...

Hayabusa (my preferred brand) use these sizes...

For training on pads, sparring, bag work, 14oz is a good size for most men and 8 or 10oz or for most women.
Im male 5ft7, 10 stone and ive always trained in 10oz, they provide enough cushion for me and allow faster punches which i prefer, so its all down to your size and style.
Its not so much a glove size like normal gloves where if your 14 stone you cant fit into a 10oz glove, theres plenty of room in a 10oz for most hands its more about cushioning and weight to slow you down/make training harder and soften the impact for sparring partners
Most boxing gloves are poor, the thumb is stuck to the hand and places the thumb at the top, rather than a proper fist.
The way to go is MMA gloves, not boxing unconventional gloves.
Purchased, excellent price

Your thumb just needs to be out the way so it doesn't get broken, you could still make a fist and box if you didnt have a thumb, it doesn't hold your fist in position.
Why would you wear mma gloves if you want to do boxing ?
You do know mma fighters train and spa in boxing gloves unless they're wrestling/grappling dont you ?
The mma gloves are for grappling so you can grab each other not because you need a thumb in position !
I think you need to go train before giving advice instead of watching ufc and punching air in your living room 🤪

No No No, another cut and paste donkey, worse advise ever, clueless chair fighter Hickman.

You can't make a fist if the thumb is stuff to the side of the glove, has you even seen what boxing gloves look like other than google pics?

In the context of boxing, MMA gloves have padding which are just as effective as boxing gloves for sparring and bag and more importantly you can make a proper fist.

Now read this a few times and let it sink in and stop acting punch drunk

Do you want me to send you a picture of my collection of gloves including a few with the thumb attached to the side and when in use you cant tell the difference.
I use twins, rdx, fairtex and venom and all feel fine in use and half have thumb attachment.
Yes mma gloves have padding but only 4 or 6 oz which is not enough to protect your partner and your hand from hours of pad or bag work.
Thats why mma fighters train in boxing gloves, im no arm chair boxer.
Your spouting rubbish about boxing gloves that all the other millions of boxers dont have a problem with just you.
If you cut your thumb off you could still box, it doesn't have to be under your fingers, it doesn't make you punch better or harder it just needs to be protected from damage.

Yep I had a nasty thumb damage from a uppercut that caught someone elbow with my thumb.

Took ages to heal
