Have heat for the cheapest 1060 but.......

On a side note I've had a OCuk forum account for years and years... every time I get to 100 posts my post count goes down.

I had well over 100 and got free shipping... A month later I went back to order something else and had 99

Heat added. Great price. normally id say pay the extra for the 6gb version but the cheapest in stock 6gb 1060 i can find at the minute is £70 extra so i'm not sure if its worth it.
Nvidia GTX 1050ti 4gb is only £135 at the moment

Fair point, but FPS/£ this 1060 3GB beats them all in current games.

Still, this isn't a special price, just a return to normalcy. I paid slightly less than this for my 1060 6GB two months ago.

Is a rx480 8gb a worthwhile upgrade on a gtx 970
The next generation 'Volta' cards are not too far away from launch and it might be worth waiting for them before slashing the cash now.
This card will not be powerful enough to drive 4K monitors at acceptable frame rates too (in fact only the 1080Ti is according to many gamers) so bear that in mind too.

Volta cards have been rumoured to not be coming till early next year. Nvidia have no reason to show their hand given their top cards still have a decent lead on AMD.

It's also worth keeping in mind that a lot of gamers still subscribe to the belief that it's Ultra or nothing, as far as settings go. Knock settings back to Medium, and for little discernible difference, a 1060 will be able to cope with high resolutions.

try running 3440x1440 at 100hz at max settings with any of those.

I don't like the 1050/1060 range, I would even hold a slight grudge against the 1070.. For me they are almost obsolete cards in between the 980 Ti and the 1080. I do understand that the price is often the driving point of these 'in-between' cards.

Is there a specific reason you're switching from Nvidia to AMD?
Comparing the two is a bit of a guessing game as often you'll have better PricevPerformance with an AMD but Nvidia will usually outperform it's counterparts.

Either way you'll want to upgrade to a rx5XX series to beat the 970 and likewise if you're staying green then the most noticeable jump will be to a 980Ti or 1070/1080.
3Gb is OK for now, but may limit games in future.
A few games are starting to push towards 8gb now, yes that is using Ultra or very high settings (which you don't need to run), but I still think 3Gb was a mistake

No. Depends on resolution and target framerate.

The 980Ti performs similarly to the 1070, albeit with higher power usage. So no, the 1050 and 1060 are not "between the 980 Ti and 1080".

Reading comprehension not your thing? 980Ti is before the 1050 and 1060 and the 1080 is after them. What is it you're struggling to understand here?

My reading comprehension is fine, thanks. Your written English is the problem. Let me break it down for you. You refer in a new sentence to "obsolete cards" (i.e. plural). Prior to this sentence you refer to the "1050/1060 range", (i.e. two ranges of multiple cards, plural), while the 1070 is referred to as "the 1070" i.e. singular. Thus, the "obsolete cards" can only refer to the plural 1050/1060 range, even if you meant the 1070. To correct your comment to the intended meaning, it would have been best to respecify "the 1070" or even "1070 cards", or less ideally, not mixed up pluralisation. If you require any further assistance with your English and grammar, please let me know.

Thanks for you utterly useless drivel. I'm sure it will come in handy if I ever find myself in North London.

You spent less than 180 for a 6GB card? May I ask where you bought it from?

Amazon warehouse, just before the price spike. It was a one off Palit card for £178, though they also had Gigabyte and Asus cards for a tenner more.

A few months earlier there was the £150 warehouse deal on a number of 1060 6GB too, though I wasn't looking for a GPU at the time.

Still regret not snapping up the £250 1070 evga back order on Amazon.de.....
