I'm tempted (like the idea of an 11 inch tablet with active digitiser) but I've been put off by the reviews left on dell. Seems like that tablet can suffer multiple different issues which really impact usability (difficulty charging, random reboots, poor battery life, becoming unresponsive etc.). Are there any owners here who have first hand experience?

Also has anyone bought from here before, would this come with the power supply (they are available on the site for ~£12 but it doesn't say if the tablet includes one)?

I think most of the issues have been with i3/i5 variants?

It's difficult to tell from dell's site as it just lumps all the reviews together, I'm sure I've seen people with the atom variant also having trouble.

Have personally had an awful experience dealing with MCS Technology so cannot recommend.
Others may have better luck...

I have had multiple dealings with Mark @ MCS and found him very helpful.
I have the 11 pro (i3) and also recently bought a pro 8 (atom) off him.

Both came in near perfect condition and issue charging with Pro 11 seems to be fixed via bios update and new charger from MCS (sent free by Mark). Battery life on the pro 8 is something else, lasts longer than iPad mini.

Nothing but good things to say for MCS. Many items still under DELL warranty too, even though covered also by MCS warranty.

Did your 11 pro come with a charger originally? I guess the new charger was in response to something breaking?

Just bought one of this 2 weeks before this promotion.
Work fine with the normal Ms office
battery quite dissappoint
the external battery cannot charge to this device(So far as I know)
since the connector can not be found.

Mine came with dock, no charger. MCS sent charger as was having an issue charging. They didn't have to as it was BIOS issue. Charged fine on dock after that.

the external battery cannot charge to this device - What does this mean? The keyboard battery?

When charging, the tablet charges to full 100% before the keyboard charges. The charge port on the keyboard battery is along next to where the keyboard docks, on the hinge part and is a micro usb socket if you want to charge it separate.

i3/i5 version likely about ~2x faster than Atom but then about ~2x higher TDP though depends on the workload.

Do we know who refurbed them - Dell or somebody else? Are they just reselling the Dell Outlet ones or doing it themselves?

They have indeed been many issues spoiling this otherwise great tablet that may not have been resolved. Dell Outlet does offer full refunds - not sure about MCS?

Hang on, the Dell Venue 11 Pro (7130) with i3 has 2x more memory & disk (4GB & 128GB) for 169 - surely worth a bit more?

(plus VAT).

It depends what you want, the atom should have better battery life and possibly lower operating temperatures.

The i3/i5 versions do have much faster drives, which could be handy.

I've read to many bad things about the i3/i5 versions to be bothered. The are thicker, run hot, have fans just too much like a laptop in a screen. I have a atom based Z3740 and it more than handles everything I need it to do. Gaming and video editing is resevered for my big yin.

Everyone has different reasons, I've been holding out for a 1080p win 8.1 tablet and this seems to fit the bill for me.

Yes I agree, I have a Toshiba encore (actually two of the original ones, with 2GB RAM) which was perfectly powerful enough for what I want to do but the 8" form factor combined with no digitiser made it slightly too painful to use for what I wanted (a lot of coding on the go).

I am pretty tempted by this (as I said earlier) but am nervous of the potential issues and know that I'd also end up spending extra on stylus/keyboard.

I've been meaning to sell at least one of the ones I got (ended up with two after accidentally winning both ebay auctions, which I didn't expect!) and if I had then I'd probably go for this now. As it stands I may look into trying to clear one first before going for this. Does anyone know how long the code lasts for?

Edit : Just noticed the code lasts until the 31st of March.

want a large screen for marking up PDFs, hence want a tablet with an digitiser. Have been looking at Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. Would people go with this or the Note Pro? Which one is heavier, less bulky. I have a linx 8 and quite like windows on there.

Though I have the i3 version not the atom I've loved mine. Love the pro 8 too which is the same atom processor. Never had any issues with dell st2 before the venue either and that was older atom. Please don't start comparing windows and android devices.

Think i would go for the i3 version if i didn't have a Linx 10 i have hardly used as it has 128gb ssd 4gb ram and a faster CPU with the 10% code off it comes in at £194.

Bought the Atom about 6 months ago. Did lots of research before hand. No real issues with the Atom; it has been brilliant. Can't comment on the seller.

This is the one I've gone for. Tried the Linx 10 and, if this works OK, I expect it to be much better as my ultra book replacement (only really use it for Office 365 but with a BT keyboard and mouse (no trackpad fan).

The Linx 10, fine for basic tasks, was a bit sluggish saving files and since this is acclaim Atom with eMMC, the i3 looks good. For a bit more here, it's double the RAM, 4x memory on a much faster SSD, as well as quite a bit more power if needed. Screen is a touch bigger and it's full HD, too. i5 doesn't seem to give much more performance at all given limited thermal headroom.

Granted i3 is thicker and will be more thirsty but hopefully it's worth it. Expecting the BIOS fix to call the fan noise as others report.

The Atom in this deal will suffice many people - just depends on your needs.

can u play cs go on it?

I'm currently on my Dell 11 Pro i3 version from MCS typing this.
Loads of teething problems initially.
Bios, driver updates etc cured much of them - setting the bios to turn off one setting was the key - I think it was intel rapid start or something like that.
Now working, it a great tablet.
I also bought y keyboard from MCS. Also very problematic.
Sometimes wont work at all, sometimes extra battery is not recognised and more often than not the touchpad does not respond.
MCS offered me a full refund for it, but when it works it is great and makes battery life immense. I paid so little compared to the full price for both items. There was a defective batch, which was why these were cheap all over the net (mine was USA).
Came with a dock rather than charger, but bought charger of net separately for £15.
All this would have cost over £1,000 at the time from Dell - cost me around £320.
I use it all the time - usually with a mouse.
Dell should never have released these, they were clearly not tested properly at the time.

I have only good things to say about MCS though. Mark was helpful before and after purchase.

Excellent, I went for it in the end as well but still waiting to receive it. Did it come with any sort of power supply? From what I've read it needs a shorted usb connection to charge properly and not sure if any of my chargers do this (I'd guess at least one must do).

USB looks like any other ordinary micro USB? It came with everything anyway all brand new by the looks of it, you need to activate Windows manually by entering the Key from the supplied slip from DELL.

Glad all had good experience and like the kit.

Ah ok brilliant, that's great news. Yes I the charge is micro-usb, it's just that there's reports it doesn't work well without using the dell supplied charger, which confused me for a while given that it's USB but it seems that it requires the data channels to be shorted so that it's power only.

mine arrived today looked brand new. The quality of the screen is fantastic way better than muy ipad mini really impressed - thanks O.P.

Had a good experience also from Mark at MCS. I love my dell venue pro 11 i3, with the keyboard (with included battery, for xsonly) it is a ultra portable for a great price. My first one got a common problem which is the charger would no longer fully charge the tablet (instead of 24 watts power the cumputer got on 3 watts) which is a problem with the motherboard. Mark did send a seperate charger which can be connected where the keyboard docks, but then you can't have the keyboard connected at the same time.

Mark was happy to replace the tablet, but sadly the next one had 2 scratches on the screen which were very noticable (bit like a line of dead pixels) so Mark replaced that with my current table which is working great (He actually sent me a wwan version as a replacement though don't have need for the 4g data on it, it might be useful in the future). The other issue I had was I got windows 8.1 Home license with this version, which didn't work for me, the others I got came with 8.1 pro.

The keyboard was the US version from xsonly for £45 (not sure if they have any more in stock) but was new, they also have the dock (new) which is only £29.99 plus £1.99 delivery which I have on the way so I can use 2 monitors with the tablet (only works on the i3/i5)

What we've learnt today is that Mark, yes that's Mark in case you missed it, from MCS is a top bloke. Well done Mark.

indeed I believe Mark Simpkins (the Mark we are refering to) is the owner, so it is worth knowing that he is very helpful and professional to deal with directors.findthecompany.co.uk/l/5…ins

I use the Atom based one as my daily machine hooked into an external full HD monitor and it works great. The proper keyboard with the extra battery in is worth getting though as it's great to type on and adds another 8 hours or so battery meaning you can easily work away from a socket all day.

Silly question time.. Do these have a USB port I could use for an RS232 adapter and a (wired) RJ45 adapter? That would be awesome..

edit: yes they do.

Now I would need to decide between the Atom and the i3; battery life isn't a major concern, so the real question is whether the i3 gives much of a performance boost, and more importantly, do the extra 2GB RAM and double capacity SSD help - I'm tempted to say "yes".

Sadly with the i3 version the battery doesn't last as long so you get an extra 3 hours with the keyboard to the 4 hours fo the tablet, which is normally enough to a day use, but I wish it had the battery life of the atom version (I believe the new core-m processor gives a atom processor level of battery time)

I've got a Pro 8 and it uses a shorted micro-USB cable to charge. Which is annoying as it means I can't just use any old USB cable if I take it away on holiday or something. I have to fish out the special Dell one from my changing station.

The net result of which being that it never gets to go on holiday and the iPad tends to go instead ....
